"Wait Arjun'''.'...we are not finished yet'''...you still owe me an explanation for ruining my life'''''...you speak about me hurting you Arjun have you got any idea how much you have hurt me''''...all your lectures on trust and love sound good in romantic novels but in real life they suck " Arohi's voice halted his step and forced him back into the room.
" Believe me Arohi. ...I have loved you for years'''...I do admit I have had some relationships in the past but since I have professed my love to you I haven't even looked at any other woman'''." Seeing her eyes change their emotion he stopped. The pain, the confusion, the distress etched in her angelic face forced him to change his mind. She did deserve some explanation. Although he wanted her to trust him unconditionally but there are times when confiding appeared to be the best option. He continued "That night I did wake up in bed with Gauri but believe me I don't know how. I had some business to discuss with Mr Mehta but had no idea of the party at his house. I was jet-lagged as I had flown across Pacific from Hong Kong. I was tired, the house of full of guest, I just had one drink and I crashed out. The next morning when I found Gauri sprawled out beside me, I leapt out of bed and freaked out. I swear I have never touched her that night in my sense. Even Gauri said that nothing has happened between us. I have always loved no one but only you Arohi'''..'...please trust me''''...I wanted to tell you about the incident on your birthday but it was such a beautiful day and I just didn't have the courage to ruin it " Arjun voice quivered with suppressed emotion.
" What about the baby Arjun?" Arohi felt herself chocked with an unknown feeling. Her inner self almost praying for Arjun to tell the truth.
" I honestly don't know'''...I was so puzzled with her behaviour'''...but after you left Gauri came to me appologising for everything'''...she just said she was jealous and there was no baby...''.
" Stop it Arjun''...stop it'''...can't hear any more lies from you''...how can you stoop so low''...if you had no idea about the baby what were you doing with her at the maternity clinic in Greece" she screamed while shoving a paper to him. Her whole body shaking with grief, anger and agony. She just couldn't believe that she had always loved this man'had mothered the child of this man against all odds. A sense of disgust spread across her whole body and soul. It seemed she didn't know this man any more.
For years she had tried to get hold of a single information on Gauri and the child. Her words claming Arjun's to be her child father had haunted her every moment. She had been through very single tabloids, every single source to find out the truth. When Arjun came back into their life and learnt about Aayan she was sure that Arjun would accuse her for deliberately trapping him. Instead of absolving himself of all responsibilities when Arjun proposed to her, alluring her with the picture of a happily married life she got tempted. Arjun's growing attachment, his love and concern for Aayan's had convinced her of Arjun's innocence .But just for her peace of mind and Aayan's security she had contacted a friend who was a private detective..Just as she was about to fall into his traps again the evening post that night had delivered her sentence for life'''...to live in complete agony .'''''away from all happiness and pleasure. The agency had confirmed that Arjun and Gauri were last seen together in a maternity clinic in Greece. They had send a letter confirming Arjun's consent signature on the abortion paper. After that Gauri was seen in public but never with him. She was still single and hasn't got a child. That post said it all. Arjun had accompanied her there to have an abortion and once that was done he had thrown her out of his life. No mother could kill her own child out of one's free will. She was convinced that it was Arjun who had refused to offer her any support and forced Gauri to kill the child. Her heart cried out for the mother in Gauri.
"What the hell is this?" he said shoving the paper away. Then as if realising he has missed something he barked " Hang on where did you get this from'''...Arohi " Arjun sharp voice brought her back to reality.
She just couldn't believe the arrogance and the audacity of the man. Instead of being ashamed of his deed he was demanding answer. His eyes were blazing. Gripping her hands he pulled her towards him " Answer me Arohi'''...who gave you this paper?
She felt a bit awkward in admitting that she had actually hired someone to get information about his past. Although the saying was "everything is fair in love and war" but to a mother "everything is fair when it came to one's child". She held her head high and looked him into his eyes and said " I have my sources'''.and don't try to steer my attention away from the issue"
"What sources'''...Arohi stop playing with words'''...tell me now" Arjun barked , his grip tightened.
"A private detective" she sighed quietly. " Now don't tell me that even he is lying...because that will be the most hilarious thing to say''...you were the father of Gauri's child who you have consented to be killed mercilessly"
"Wha-at? You hired a private detective to get information'''.. how stupid you can get Arohi''''..do you have any idea what mess this will create''..I never thought you could be this foolish'" Arjun kept on ranting without making any sense to Arohi.
He looked like a man who has completely lost it. " When did you contact this guy?" he asked.
" A week back" Arohi said honestly. " Why are you behaving like that Arjun''...you think I am stupid''..right now you are looking and sounding like the stupidest person alive on earth''..I wanted some information and I hired a private detective for the purpose''.simple as that''.why are making it such a big deal''scared that you have been caughte red-handed?' she almost chuckled at him.
" You are feeling like laughing now''.I few hours time you will regret this step forever'''you have opened a flood gate Arohi and now even if I want to I can't give you what you want''.I can't help you this time''..turn the TV on and I will check on Aayan and Sanvi'.."Arjun left without even giving her any chance to speak.
Arohi had no idea what Arjun was talking about. It seemed like he was completely out of his mind. It was nearly 12 o clock in the night and he wanted her to put the TV on. Just as she turned it on her mobile started ringing. It was her friend Shefali. She hasn't seen her since her twenty first birthday. And there was almost ten missed calls from her.
"Hello Shefali'...it is midnight"
" I know Arohi but I had to call you'...you never told me about you and Arjun Singhania'...he is so handsome'...I am so happy for you'." Shefali yelled at the top of her voice. She was definitely out clubbing Arohi gathered from the background noise.
" What are you talking about''...there is nothing between us''" Arohi tried to say.
" Jhooti'..it is the topic of the town now'''...it is everywhere '..on every news channel'...very good catch and Aayan does look like him''
Shefali's voice faded away and she dropped the phone. A shiver ran down her spine as she looked at the Tv screen and saw the flash shots of them enjoying in the pool and later on Aayan and Arjun playing in the sand. Although the shots were taken from a long distance but the faces were clearly visible. There was only one question lurking in every reporter's voice about Arjun Singhania's resemblance with the little boy and his relationship with his business partner Arohi Sharma. She felt like she would faint.
"Can you see Arohi what have you done?" Arjun voice snapped through her trance. "These detectives are like parasites thriving on some one else's life. Till now I have used every thing within my power to hide this fact from the world till we got married. But now these reporters will go to any extent to find a juice gossip and Aayan will be the worst affected. I didn't want him to grow up as my illegitimate child. At your insistence I was even happy for him to be known as Aayan Mittal''why Arohi why? You could have confronted me long back '.why did you not come to me and ask about that night for so long?"
" If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be in the mess" she snapped back at him Arohi knew that she was being unfair to him. In hind sight she should have been a bit careful knowing that how much the name Arjun Singhania appeal to the gossip world. But she would never admit that in her life. "If you only have been honest with me I wouldn't have resorted to a private detective"
"I wondered how long it would take you to get around to blaming me" he drawled cynically." As far as I know I haven't done anything wrong but if you say so Arohi , who am I to argue?"his dark eyes were cold and remote. " you have done enough damage but now you will do as told'.Good night'go and check on Aayan and Saanvi'I need to make some arrangement"
As usual Arohi was about to open her mouth to protest but looking at Arjun's cold and dark face she retreated her steps to the childrens's room , leaving a very worried and concerned Arjun on the phone'..
"Arjun''...there is a pack of reporters waiting outside the house'''..what shall we do?" came running a panicking Salil. He had never experienced this kind of paparazzi invasion. It was nearly nine in the morning. The phones in the house were constantly ringing. Friends and family all wanting to know about the real story. It was in every news channels, every news paper. Arohi and Purvi were also dazed by all this sudden media attention. Arnav who she has always considered as her friend had even gave a statement to the press "describing her as the swinging girl who can't be tied down". Reporters have even been at the Fortis hospital trying to get information about the time when Aayan was ill and was admitted there. Arjun was right she thought sadly. She had indeed opened a flood gate and had no idea how to deal with this calamity.
"I know the media ...'they will hound us to death untill we make a official statement''...the best form of defence is attack...'so the plan is we will go out of the house together and I will make a short announcement to the press which will satisfy them for the moment" Arjun suggested
Arohi knew it made sense "But then what" she asked. It didn't seem much of a plan to her.
"Then we will all take the company jet to my family villa in Greece. By the time we all come back from this short holiday , some other story will have diverted their attention and hit the front page"
"That's it''we go on a holiday with you and the gossip blows over'this is a ridiculous plan 'I don't think it will work'.." the thought of spending time with Arjun again was all too tempting. She knew despite of all her anger, all her frustration she lacks the strength to resist him if turns his usual charming self on.
"Please yourself. If you want to face the press alone on your own you are more than welcome or stay trapped in your house. I am leaving this house with my son with or without you. I have been too kind and considerate and I am loosing my patient every single minute.You have done enough damage to my reputation already. I need to rectify our lived before it gets too complicated. So choose your pick''"
"But'.she stopped. Her troubled face searched his face. He had been not at all phased by her confronting him with the fact that he had aborted his own child. One one hand she desparately wanted to trust him completely but on the other hand her head was ruling over her heart. Her destiny was taking her back to Greece'.to the same place where it all started. to the place where all her dreams about starting a life with Arjun was shattered. She had always dreaded going back teher but under the current situation it sounded very appealing. And also there would be loads of servants and Salil and Purvi at the villa. So she won't be really alone with Arjun.
As if reading her mind Arjun said " I have a lot of work to catch up on'.I promise I won't do anything unless you want me to''"
The next hour went by very quickly with all of them packing and Arjun arranging emergency visa for all of them. Salil and Purvi were a bit hesitant to go along with them but Arjun was so worried about their security as well that Salil had to give in ultimately. Aayan and Saanvi were the happiest of the lot. Arohi had no idea that money and connection could arrange for things so quickly. But when Arjun Singhania was in charge everything was possible.
Arjun had thought about everything and ten minutes later when they had faced the media Arohi learnt what " everything" entailed'
Arjun slipped an arm around her waist and carrying Ayan on the other as they came out of the house. She tried to easy away'the warmth of his firm hands was having a weird sensation on her nerves but Arjun tightened his grip. His face proud and upright.
"Stay close to me''.and please let me do all the talking" He gave her a reassuring smile "Okay"
She didn't have much choice. They walked out of the door as flashing cameras greeted them. A dozen different voices threw different question. Arohi 's dazed mind could hardly register anything. For once she was glad of Arjun's support although the closeness was making her pulse rate go high. He still just needed to touch her even casually and her whole body would melt. Finally when she did recover enough and could realise what was being said she got the shock of her life. She stared up at Arjun in open mouthed astonishment.
"Arohi and I have been lovers for years. We got engaged in Greece when she was eighteen and got married in a temple in Mumbai but decided to keep our little secret as she wanted to finish her studies. But our passion and love came to life in the form of little Aayan, my son. There were some legal complications so we couldn't give him my name but my friend Salil brought him up as his own with my full consent and knowledge. But there is no reason to delay our union. We are all heading for a short holiday in South Africa where my bride will choose her own uncut diamond for the renewal of vows''.and don't worry we will have a grand wedding following the Hindu traditions ." He looked at her like a besotted lover." What do you think sweetheart?"
"Is that right Miss Sharma'...you and Mr Singhania got married three years ago" all wanted to know from her.
She knew she was trapped. She just couldn't believe that the reporters had actually believed his absolute filmy trash and were asking for a confirmation from her. She felt like hiitng him to get the smug look out of his face. But there was no way out. She could only muster a very faint "yes' and Arjun hard mouth descended on hers. His free hand curved around her waist, holding her firmly as he kissed her with a passionate possessiveness. She could see the surprised but the very pleased faces of the reporters around them. What more they could have asked for. Arjun Singhania kissing his to be bride. The Trp of the channels will booast and the newspaper and the tabloids would sell like a hot cake. Even little Aayan chuckled to see their antiques.
Arohi sagged when he broke the kiss andoonly his hands round her waist stopper her from falling flat on her face. Before she could gather her wits Arjun gently pushed her in the parked car. Shee recovered herself from the shock and a tide of anger swelled in her. She turned furiously at Arjun who looked immensely satisfied with his achievement. "have you gone mad''your plan was to help us escape the press '...why the hell did you make up all that story about us being married three years back and now we are renewing our vows'...I would rather be trapped in my house than trapped into a marriage with you"
"Honestly speaking even I don't have any such desire at the moment but I have my son's future to think about. I want him to have a proper family name. The strategy worked. Media is happy with their scoop and our reputation is clear. In few months time everything will settle down and we can go our separate ways''...but right now we are getting married in Greece as soon as possible weather you like it or not'...so shut up and do as your are told"
