Kripa stomped into the main lobby. I cannot believe this! Ye Angad mera peecha kyun nahi chor tha. He's such a cheap and disgusting guy. Yuck! Kripa was furious by the time she reached the reception desk. The same scrawny boy, Eric, appeared, giving Kripa a flustered look. "Hello ma'am," he greeted. "Any problem?" Kripa slammed her hand on the desk. "You bet there's a problem! What kind of a cheap hotel are you running?" The guests nearby turned to face Kripa. Eric tried to smile at the other guests in order to ensure them that everything was fine. "Ma'am," he began in a low voice. "Could you please explain why you are putting such charges on this hotel? I can ensure you that we are a high-status hotel." As Eric finished his sentence he noticed two other girls stomping towards the front desk. Eric's eyes bulged out of their sockets when he saw Nicole in her minimal clothing. "Nicole! Are you out of your mind? What are you doing walking around dressed like that? Go into the back room now! I will talk with you once I'm done here." Nicole and Kripa gave each other death glares as Nicole walked into the back room. "She works here?" Kripa asked in a shocked manner. "Unfortunately," Eric responded. "She's so absent minded." Kripa snorted, "So do you still need me to explain why I put such accusations on your hotel? Look at how your staff is dressed! It's disgusting!" Just then Mishti arrived at the front desk. Kripa let out a sarcastically enthusiastic greeting, "Oh, welcome! Welcome! Bas aapki hi kumee thi." Eric gave off a puzzled look. "Can I please know what is going on here?" he demanded. Kripa and Mishti began talking at once. Eric watched both of their faces intently before slipping into the back room. He came back with Nicole, who was now wrapped up in a shawl. "Nicole," he began. "You've done it again! You see a guy and its like nothing else exists for you anymore. You can't be this irresponsible! Do you realize that you forgot to check umâŚ" "Angad," Mishti informed. "Yes, Mr. Angad," Eric continued. "You forgot to check Mr. Angad in, so when I came to the computer to check Miss Kripa in, I gave her a room which I thought was vacant." "See Kripa," Mishti said. "This was just all one big misunderstanding. And I was only in his room because I didn't have my room key." Eric grabbed a spare key for Mishti. The whole time Kripa was just standing with her arms crossed across her chest. "I didn't ask why you were in his room," Kripa responded bitterly. "All I am here for is to get another room." Eric adjusted his glasses on his face as he mumbled, "Um⌠there's no vacant room." Kripa threw up her arms. "Perfect!" she said. "It's past midnight and there's no other hotel nearby. Now where do you expect me to go?" Eric and Nicole exchanged a glance. "No!" Nicole said. "Eric, you can't give her my room!" "Sorry Nicole, but you started this mess." Mishti backed away slowly in order to return to her room. Meanwhile Kripa just stared at Nicole and Eric with a confused expression on her face. "Nicole and I live in this hotel," Eric explained. "It's easier this way because then we don't have to drive to work and back. Well, you can have Nicole's room for however long you want. It's one of the best suites in the hotel." Nicole's face was turning red with anger. "Where do I sleep then?" she demanded. Eric shrugged, "There are sofas here in the lobby. Make yourself at home!" Nicole let out a frustrated grunt as she stomped back into the back room. "Here's your room key Miss Kripa, and I am really sorry for all of this." Kripa grabbed the key as she replied, "It's not your fault. Thank you for you help!"
Ring! Ring! Kripa rolled around in bed trying to block out the sound of her phone ringing. Ring! Ring! She finally got up and answered her phone. "Hello?" she asked wearily. "Kripa!" an energetic voice responded. "Where are you? We're waiting in the lobby for you!" Kripa rubbed her eyes, "Why are you guys here so early Harshini?" Harshini giggled, "Early? It's 1:30 PM; that's not early!" Kripa's eyes grew wide as she looked at the alarm clock. "Oh my gosh," Kripa said. "I can't believe I slept in so late!" "It's okay Kripa, but just hurry up now. You only have a few more hours beforeâŚ" "I know, I know," Kripa interrupted. "I'll be down in the lobby soon. See ya!"
Angad's head was still pounding from his hangover when Mishti came into his room with brunch. "Good afternoon sleepy head," she said as she entered his room. "Look what I brought you: pancakes, eggs, sausage, yogurt, a banana, orange juice." Angad did not even want to think about food right now. All he could think about was KripaâŚ. She's judging me hard core right now! My God! Why did she have to see that scene? I have never been caught with any girl, and the one person who catches me is the girl I care about the most right now. Meri phooti kismat. Mishti snapped her fingers in Angad's face in order to get his attention back. That's when he realized what Mishti was wearing. He read what was written on her shirt out loud, "Miss Indian Abroad 2011? Ye kya hai?" Mishti helped herself to some eggs as she responded, "I'm participating in a beauty pageant today." Angad couldn't help but laugh. Mishti stood up, "Excuse me? Angad, that's so rude!" Between his booming laughter Angad responded, "Sorry Mishti. I just never understood these pageant things. They tear people's self-esteem apart. I didn't know you were the type." Mishti was offended, "The type? Watch it Angad. Pageants are fun!" "Sure," Angad responded between his bites of the banana. Mishti's eyes became wide. Angad stopped chewing. "Oh no MishtiâŚ. Don't even think about it!" "Too late," Mishti responded. "You're coming to the pageant with me, and that's final! Go get ready." Angad sighed, "Nahi! You can't make me!" Mishti got up and put a stern look on her face, "Oh really?" Angad leaped out of bed and ran into the bathroom. "Fine Mishti! I'll meet you in the lobby in a few minutes."
"Kripa!" Kripa ran to greet her friends who were waiting for her in the main lobby. "Hey guys," Kripa said. "How was your stay in the haunted hotel or whatever?" Kripa's friends exchanged a look, and Kripa let out a slight giggle. "So looks like you guys aren't as brave as you think you are!" All of Kripa's friends replied at once: "That place was freaky yaar!" "Too scary." "I couldn't sleep all night." "I wish we had stayed here with you." "Aww, you poor babies," Kripa soothed. "Ab mera mazaak banao!" Her friends looked down from shame, and Kripa laughed. "Okay, bas bohat ho gaya. We're going to be late!" As Kripa and her friends left the hotel lobby, Angad entered it, but Angad and Kripa did not see each other. Angad made his way to Mishti. "Let's go!" he called.
Angad and Mishti made their way to a small building. "Are you sure this is the place, Mishti? This area doesn't seem safe." Angad examined the people who were sitting along the curb. Mishti double checked the address before replying, "This is it Angad." Mishti firmly grasped her purse as the two made their way into the building. They followed the signs to the stage that was going to be used for the pageant. "See Angad, this building looks so much better from the inside." A smile appeared on Angad's face as he watched all the gorgeous female contestants. "You're right Mishti: the view in here is so much better than from what we saw outside." Mishti looked over at Angad. "Boys," she said as she shook her head disapprovingly. "Okay I need to go get ready. The dressing rooms are back here, but you need to find a seat here in the auditorium. You'll see me on stage now!" "Break a leg Mishti!" "That's for theater, not beauty pageants!" Angad scratched his head. "Oh⌠well break a heel! That fits into the beauty pageant theme, right?" Mishti laughed, "Baapre Angad! Thank you for wishing me luck⌠at least that's what I think you're doing." Angad winked at Mishti before turning around to find a seat in the auditorium. He spotted a lady in a pink tank top and a micro-mini black skirt. Might as well make the most of my time while I'm here! Angad walked up to the lady and asked, "Is anyone sitting here?" The girl made a note of checking Angad out before meeting his gaze. "Nope. It's all yours!" "And I'm all yours," Angad mumbled as he sat down. "Excuse me?" she said. "Did you say something?" Angad leaned towards her, "Did you want me to say something?" The girl giggled as she brushed her dark brown hair out of her face. "I don't know why they're hosting this beauty pageant," Angad continued. "Kyun?" the girl asked in a confused tone. "Obviously the winner is going to be you. There's no competition," he added with a wink. The girl bit her lower lip as she looked down to hide her now rosy red cheeks. "I'm not competing," she informed. "Ah, so you're above all of this? You already know you're the best, and you don't need a crown to prove it, no?" "Nahi nahi. I'm actually here to support my sister. Well, cousin actually, but we're so close that we're practically sisters." "Oh really? I'm here to support a family member too. My future saali actually," Angad responded in a serious tone. The girl raised an eyebrow before bursting into a melodic laughter. "Oh, you're funny! I'm Kritika. And you areâŚ?" "The man you've been dreaming about all your life." "Acha? Well you turned out to be a whole lot better looking in real life." Angad loved this response. Angad and Kritika flirted for quite some time as the pageant wasn't going to begin for another hour. "Well I should go wish my sister luck now," Kritika said as she got up. Angad got up too. "Yeah, I should wish my saali too. After all, saali to hoti hai adhi gharwaali. I need to get a good relationship started with her now." Kritika laughed and rolled her eyes before grabbing Angad's hand. "Well then future pati dev ji, shall we?" Angad gave off a crooked smile before responding, "Oh, you want to run away to the mandap already?" Kritika began giggling again. "Ab chalo bhi! My sister is probably waiting for me." Kritika and Angad walked hand in hand to the dressing rooms. "Room number 4âŚ. Here it is!" Kritika shrieked. Angad jerked away from Kritika's screams. Baapre, sister na hoi! Ye kya koi 8th wonder of the world hai? Jeeze, overly emotional girls, Angad thought to himself as Kritika knocked on the dressing room door. "It's open," a sweet voice called out. Angad raised an eyebrow when he heard that voice. I've heard that voice somewhere before⌠but where? Just as Kritika was about to reach for the door knob, her phone started ringing. Ring! Ring! "Oh gosh. Sorry but I have to take this call. Um you go ahead in and I'll meet you here in a few minutes." "Kritika, you want me to go into your sister's dressing room? Are you trying to get me in jail? Koi case vase ka chakkar nahi chahiye mujhe." Kritika quickly responded, "Kuch nahi hoga. She's dressed by now. After all the pageant starts in less than 20 minutes. Just tell her you're a friend of mine." Angad watched as Kritika flipped open her phone and walked away chatting on it. Angad shrugged and slowly opened the doorâŚ
"I'm back here," the sweet voice called out. The owner of this voice waved a hand from behind a closet door. Angad made his way towards the voice. Where have I heard this voice? Think Angad, think! "You came just in time," the voice continued. "I can't zip up my dress, and the pageant is going to start soon. Phatta phat meri help kardo na." Angad froze in his track. She thinks I'm Kritika! Ab kya karoon? I could tell her I'm not Kritika, but then she'd scream and be like 'why is there a guy in my dressing room?!' blah blah blah. I would just be helping her by zipping up her dress. Just zip it and leave before she sees you. Angad slowly opened the closet door. A small girl with a curvy frame was standing with her back towards Angad. She had all of her hair falling over one shoulder, revealing her bare back. "Please hurry up. I still have to do my make-up," the girl called out. Angad walked over and stood right behind the girl. He put one hand on her back and slowly slid it around her waist until he had a firm grasp of her. He pulled the girl close and she let out a slight umph! "Di, be a little gentle! Are you trying to manhandle me?" she giggled. Just then Angad's eyes got wide. That laugh! I could never forget that laugh. The first time I heard it was on the airplane on my way here⌠oh my gosh! Angad made the connection that the girl he had his arm around right now was Kripa! Kismat finally mera saath de rahi hai. Don't blow this Angad. Angad shook out all his thoughts and just focused on Kripa. He slid his hand down her bare back before grabbing the zipper. Angad slowly moved the zipper on Kripa's dress up, her body stiffening from the apparel getting tighter. Finally the dress was all zipped up, but Angad would not remove his hand from Kripa's waist. "Thanks Kritika di. You can let go now." Mmm! Her hair smells like a fruit basket. So fresh and juicy and ripe! Angad was so lost in his thoughts that he did not even realize that Kripa was inching her hand towards the flower vase that was sitting on the nearby windowsill in the closet. Kripa thought to herself, This is not Kritika. She's not this strong! Whoever this creep is, I need to get away from him right now! And with that final thought Kripa grabbed the vase and hit it backwards over her head, nailing Angad right in his head.
Angad immediately let go of Kripa's frame. He took a few steps back, getting dizzier and dizzier with each one, as he felt his now bloody head. "That'll teach you a lesson, you creep!" Kripa called out as she turned around. But when her eyes landed on Angad's face, which now had trails of blood on it from his head, she couldn't help but scream. "Tum?!" she shrieked. "Oh my gosh! Tum yahaan bhi aa gaye? And how dare you touch me!" Kripa cringed as she remembered Angad's touch on her back. Angad's head was spinning, and he could only make out a few of Kripa's words now. "I'm so glad I hit you! You're such a freak! Just leave me alone!" Kripa's voice was getting fainter in Angad's head. He forced himself to focus on her face one last time before he collapsed on the floor, completely unconscious.
