Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Amar Upadhyay,who played Mihir Virani,was replaced by Inder Kumar and later Ronit Roy.In Kahiin To Hoga,Rajeev Khandelwal was replaced by Gurpreet Singh,while Shilpa Saklani followed by Mansi Joshi Roy played Kkusum,the role that was essayed by Nausheen Ali Sardar.Iqbal Khan had Yash Tonk filling his shoes in Karam Apna Apna,while Smriti Iraani was replaced by Gautami Kapoor in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and many more.But,this year,the number of lead actors being replaced has increased.Priyal Gor was replaced by Sara Khan in Ram Milaye Jodi,Sunil Grovers character in Gutur Gu is now essayed by Kunal Kumar,Shalini Chandrans character is now played by Parul Chauhan in Rishton Se Badi Pratha,Mishal Rahejas character Dutta Bhau will be soon played by Shabbir Ahluwalia in Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Supriya Kumari will be seen playing Krishna Gokanis character in Looteri Dulhan.Actors moving on to other projects,illness /accident and issues like unimpressive performance are the reasons that lead to such replacements. So,how do costars cope up when the actor opposite them is replaced When asked,Nishant M a l k a n i,whose cos t a r P r i ya l was replaced by Sara,says,As a performer,it doesnt make much of a difference to me.For me,its the character that matters and not the actor.It doesnt matter whether its Priyal or Sara. Incidentally,Nishant himself is quitting the show soon and will have somebody else in his place! Replacing someone is not easy because audiences have already accepted the original actor.About her role in Looteri Dulhan,Supriya says,It is tough to take up a role as a replacement.But yes,I have taken it up as a challenge. Actor-producer JD Majethia says,Replacements happens for two reasons.Either the actor doesnt suit the character or the environment at production house or cast doesnt suit the actor. He adds,If the actors performance is not up to the mark,it needs to be rectified and it will be accepted by audience as well.In the end it adds value. But,the fact still remains that audiences dont like replacements.Most of the times,the second actor who takes up a show,is not accepted by viewers and the serials TRPs drop.But theres little anyone can do about it.
