PART 23
In the car Armaan and Riddhima are sitting and Armaan is silently driving the car. It was long day for them. From the point where Nikki gave them the shock that she was marrying to the point where they got married and then the final wedding in the evening. It was indeed a good day after all but it just tired them out. Riddhima was finally happy for her sister that she had finally moved on and is all settled or atleast a good start to it had begun.
Armaan was happy too. In days he had finally seen Riddhima happy. He had seen Nikki settled too. But he was wondering why he was not feeling awkward about it. Afterall he had loved her at some point. He was in dilemma now. Until this point he had some justification to live for. He was living so that he could do justice with Nikki. But when she said that the baby was not his it had crumbled him down. Riddhima had been his support in all this while. Probably that is the reason he could stand through all of it. Maybe that's why he didn't feel anything when Nikki married. Maybe he was not supposed to think about it anymore. He happened to look at Riddhima. There was a distinct smile on her face that was very visible. He felt a little twingling happiness inside him. He didn't know why but he felt god about it. He turned away from Riddhima and looked forward. He was wondering. I t was hurting him. He knew Riddhima loved him. The night of Muskaan's friends party the way he caught her looking at him that look said so much. The point when Riddhima was in the hospital and he was on the verge of losing her, he was so scared for her he had decided that he was never going to break her trust and he had said that he was going to be for her. But how was he going to do it. He had just learned about how Nikki had deceived him and although he knew it was not Nikkis fault… but he knew he had a past with Nikki. And Riddhima well she …… how could he justify his marriage with Riddhima. He left the rest on God thinking that someone sitting up there had guided him through life so far so he will be the one who could direct him further too….
Riddhima happened to look at him. He appeared to be thinking about something. She turned the other way. She remembered how her life had taken such a drastic turn. She had loved only one man in her life and that was Armaan. It was funny because life had snatched him out of her life and then brought him back to her. She was not complaining because she was happy Things were finally falling in place for her. She was very happy.
He kept driving. Armaan looked at her. She was looking outside the window quietly. He smiled and kept looking at her. A truck was driving in their direction whose headlights were not working. None of them in the car saw the car because Riddhima was looking in the direction and Armaan was looking in her direction. On top of that Armaan had forgotten to wear his seatbelt. The truck driver was drunk and singing in his own melancholy. When he was almost close to Armaans car that he finally saw another car and honked the horn loud. Immediately Riddhima turned in the direction and yelled " Armaannn" Armaan turned immediately and soon as he saw the truck turned the wheel just in time to avoid the truck but he spun with so much force that he crashed into a tree. Riddhima was screaming his name Armaan was scared Riddhima was scared. CRASHHH!!! The car collided with a nearby tree. Due to hard contact Armaan was thrown out of the car breaking the glass he landed on the car bonnet. Riddhima screamed his name loud. She was pulled forward too but since she was wearing the seat belt she was restrained back. She kept screaming his name He could faintly hear her….She immediately came out of the car and rushed towards him She was scared for him he had glass on his body and she was afraid that some of the glass might have penetrated. Blood was ozzing from his forehead… Armaan Armaan.. she screamed She ran here and there seeing if some car is coming in … Then she remembered the phone and immediately called up the ambulance…… Armaaan could faintlyhear her voice and that she was frantically moving here and there…. He tried to call her…Riddhima….. But his voice was weak………… She could here it….. She was panicking she decided to call Nikkitell them about it but then she realized that this was her first day of happiness and she didn't want to ruin it….……Riddhimaaa Armaan called and she heard it this time….She immediately rushed to him…. Ha Armaan main yahin hoon bus ambulance ati hi hogi….Armaan … tumhe kuch nahin hoga.. main kuch nahin hone dungi tumhe……Armaan …. She couldn't stop weeping……
Armaan , "Riddhima main tumse kuch kenha chahta hoonn….."
It was paining him to speak but he wanted to say it….
Riddhima came near him and touched his hand… , "Armaan….. please tumhe kuch nahin hoga…. mujhpar yakin karo… abhi ambulance aa jayegi…. main tumhe kuch hone nahin dungi….. Armaaannn"
Armaan , "Riddhima,,,,,"
Riddhima, "Armaaannn…" She cried…….. seeing him in that state………
Armaan tried to speak , " Main tumse …… maafiii "
Riddhima tried to think…… and then it clicked her.., " Armaan please un sab bato ka kuch matlab nahin abhi.. tumhe kuch nahin hoga….."
Armaan, "Riddhima…. nahin…. mujhe kehne ……do……. Mujhe tumse maafiii…… kyunkiii……. meri wajah se l………. tumhe ….. bure……dinnn"
Riddhima cut him saying, " Tumhari wajah se mujhe kai ache din dekhne mile hain…. Armaan please don't blame your self….Where is the ambulance….. when you need one…."
The ambulance came in just at that moment and then made Armaan lay on the stretched and treated him as much as they could and then took him to the hospital….
The Doctors immediately took him into the operation theater.
Riddhima was worried for him…… She paced up and down. She was afraid for him…. She couldn't lose him…. She loved him too much to lose him…………
Please come back Armaan…. Please……..
She looked through the window of the operation theater
He was unconscious and the doctors were trying to remove the glass that he was hurt with….
Everytime a glass was removed she would close her eyes………she couldn't bear to see it…. She rushed to the mandir in the hospital and prayed , prayed hard for him to come out right……..
She stayed up all night long in the mandir praying for him. In the middle of the night Ananya got up to get a glass of water . She happened to go past Armaan and Riddhimas bedroom and saw that their room door was open but no one was in there. She checked the time. it was 4am. They were out this late? This was very unusual of them. After all they had all gone together to Nikkis wedding and although they agreed to stay in for more time, definetly they wouldn't stay out this late….. Unless…… something else happened…..
She tried calling Armaan's phone number. It was unreachable. She tried calling Riddhimas phone but it was in her purse and she had kept her purse aside while praying... Ananya was tensed. She rushed to Billy
Ananya, "Billy"
Billy , in his sleep, " Hmm Ananya…. kya hua.."
Ananya, "Billy Armaan aur Riddhima….. ab tak ghar nahin aye…."
Billy, " Kya… time hua hai"
Ananya, "Its 4 am now"
Billy, "Who log kahin ghumne gaye hoge…."
Ananya, "Billy they would still answer the phone right…. but no one is even picking up the phone…. Please do something…. As it is whenever Nikki is associated with them something or the other has always gone bad… Please look into it….."
Billy got up now…., "Ananya.. don't worry, aisa kuch nahin hoga…and please forgive the poor child Nikki it was not her fault…"
Ananya, "Just look into Armaan and Riddhima please…."
Billy immediately got up and assured her that he would look into it…. He made a few calls and asked about the regular people or places where those two could be found…… After an hour he received a call from his Doctor friend. He wondered what it could be… So he answered the phone… But what he heard shocked him….. He immediately took ananya to the car and drove to the hospital… All the while Ananya kept asking him as to where were they going…… But he said nothing…..
As soon as they reached the hospital… ananya was worried…. She asked him "Is this related to them"
He nodded
They rushed in immediately…. and the friend who had called them took them to outside the operation theater……Billy Held Ananaya by her hand and they looked at Armaan being operated….. She collapsed…… She cried….. "Armaan….. yeh kya hua tumhe… please mujhe mere bte se milne do.. Armaan…. no .. this cant be happeneing…. their life was finally beginning to start….. " She started sobbing badly saying that… Billy made her sit on the chair next to the operation theater….. He asked his friend about the girl that was with him… He pointed in the direction of a lady who was sitting next to the mandir,………..praying….very hard…. He approached her…… And put a consoling hand on her shoulder………..
At first she didn't realize but when he called out her " Riddhima beta" She realized and turned towards him.. He bent down and she broke down in front of him ,"Daddy ji.. Armaannn…….. hum vapas aa hi rahe the… ki yeh accident…. Daddy ji….I am worried for him Its been 6 hours since we have been here and they are still operating on him….. Dad…. he is so hurt.. I cant see him in pain like this dad…. Please do something…"
And she kept weeping…. He consoled her saying that everything will be fine.. whereas deep down inside he was worried very worried for his son…….
They all waited impatiently outside. After an hour the operation was performed…The Doctor came out and said, " You guys are very lucky… He is a fighter….. he fought against all the pain and came out succesfull…..He is heavily sedated right now so he is under sleep…… but due to the glass pieces…. there are injury marks on his face that will go eventually……But the main thing is that he would need all your love and support because…due to the injuries on his hand for a few days he wont be able to perform even the basic functions…he would feel irritated… and all of that… but u have keep him support and explain it to him that this is all temporary…."
Billy thanked the doctor immensely and went with him for the other formalities…Ananya went inside and touched her sons face. Her joy knew no bounds because her son had come out successful….Billy joined her in… He smiled when he saw Armaan sleeping peacefullyyy…… He went and sat besides his wife….He wondered where Riddhima is.. he asked Ananya.. TO which she replied that she was with her a few moments ago….but didn't know where she went..
She was at the mandir thanking God for bringing him back….. bringing….. her Armaan back……
Billy came behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder…
Billy, "Riddhima tumhari prathna fal layi hain….Armaan ko aakar toh dekhlo.."
Riddhima, "Nahin daddyji…. maine mannat mangi hain…..jab tak woh hosh main nahin ate main unhe nahin dekhungi……."
Billy, " Riddhima yeh kaisi mannat hain"
Riddhima to herself, " Dad I am doing this because I cannot break down not in front of him neither in front of you two…" To Billy she says, "Dad I am sorry but I have to maintain this promise.. I don't want him to take awayArmaan from all of us…"
Billy , "Thik hain jaise tumhe thik lage… par ab tum Ananya ko lekar ghar jao…Raat bhar se tum soyi nahin ho aur Ananya who toh ma hain.. apne bte ko istarah taklif main nahin dekh payegi…."
Riddhima, " And u dad"
Billy smiled at her, " Don't worry about me Riddhima…. I am strong like my son is….."
She smiled at that… Ananya came there and then on Billys instruction they two went home. and Billy stayed with Armaan…
It was almost 7 am when they reached home….Ridhiima was very tired, and sleep deprived.. but she wanted to be there when Armaan comes home and she knew that as soon as he is awake they would discharge him. She told Ananaya to rest for somewhile. Ananya disagreed saying that it is Riddhima who should rest because she had been awake all night… But Riddhima managed to convince HER AND Ananya went to sleep for a while until Armaan comes in… Riddhima on the other hand immediately showered ….. did the puja… and started to make breakfast ….Billy called the home phone number saying that Armaan is being discharged and they would be home in an hour…..
Riddhima went and waked up Ananaya…. Muskaan and Anjali had already woken up and from Riddhima they learned about what had happened last night….. Sensing that Riddhima needed help they immediately helped Riddhima in making the breakfast and everything else…..
They heard the car park and then they saw Billy and Armaan supported by Billy come in…. Ananya came and rushed towards Armaan and hugged him
Armaan, "Ma main thik hoon" and he smiled…..
Muskaan and Anjali…. came and hugged their brother and helped him to get to the sofa…..
His eyes were searching for that one person…. who was in the kitchen trying to suppress her tears because of the joy of just seeing him alive….. and walking….
When they brought him to the sofa he saw her…. working by herself in the kitchen……She immediately brought out the breakfast and served it to all of them with the help of Muskaan and Anjali…. They ate in silence….
Billy, "Riddhima beta aa kar baith jao… tum bhi thak gayi hogi na…"
Riddhima, "Dad I am fine….. just tell me what you guys need so I can get it…."
Armaan looked at her.. She tried to avoid his gaze….. and went in the kitchen….
Ananya signaled Muskaan to go and help her bhabhi and she went immediately…..
In the kitchen….
Muskaan, "Bhabhi aap rehne do aap raat bhar se jaagi hui hain…..thoda toh kha lijiye.. Main hoon na aur phir Anji bhi toh hain.. hum kar lenge….. "
Saying that she pulled her out and made her sit next to Armaan and eat….
She ate quietly trying not to look in his direction….. He looked at her….but she still did not turn……
Ananya, " Armaan Riddhima tum aaram kar lo… Kal ke haadse ke baad… I don't want you guys to stress unnecessarily…."
Riddhima tried to protest saying that she was fine…she was afraid of confronting Armaan alone.. afraid of what he might say.. cuz he was about to say something during the accident… maybe she was the reason the accident happened.. She silently blamed herself for that…….
Billy then helped Armaan get up and go to his room… But before going Armaan told Billy that he wanted Riddhima to come as he had to talk to her….. Billy understood it and asked Riddhima to help him…
She was very nervous, apprehensive…. She held his hand and trembling helped him walk up the stairs and then into their room….She made him lie in bed…. He kept looking at her all the while…… Once he was safely into bed she started to leave… when he called her out…, "Riddhima."
She stopped but did not turn…..afraid of what might come next…
"Riddhima" he called again…….
Trying to act as straight as she could keeping her emotions out she turned and went towards him……
"Ha Armaan tumhe kuch chahiye"
He looked at her…… She was still not looking into his eyes, "Riddhima please do minute mere pass baitho"
Riddhima could do nothing.. the way he requested her….. she just couldn't say no….. She sat next on the bed to him…..
"Riddhima… us din meri baat adhoori reh gayi thi……"Riddhima looked in the other direction and then at him, "Armaan who saari baatein poorani hain…. ab uska hamari zindagi main koi matlab nahin…….. please who sab bhul jao…" Saying that she left from there
Armaan quitened… looked at her…..go….
She ran from there and went into Muskaans room where there was no one… and locked herself……… She cried… she cried hard…………..
"Armaan… tum baar baar kyun wahi baatein… yaad kar rahe ho……. main janti hoonn.. it hurts u.. but it hurts me more…." She cries her heart out….. She had controlled all those tears in front of them all.. infront of him when she finally saw him come home….. she tried to control it all.. but now nomore.. she just broke down completely.. she wanted to go and tell him how scared she was when she was on the verge of loosing him…. some part of her was almost dying….. butmore than that… she wanted to be there now…. to look for him…. she wanted to hug him and tell him it was alright… and hug him and tell him that she was so happy he was back…… but……. she could do nothing…….. Gradually she composed herself….. wiped her tears straightened her dress and then went down.
Ananya looked at her and then asked her, "Beta…tum aaram karo….. main hoon yahan…"
Riddhima, "Nahin ma….. I am fine…."
She didn't say anymore and helped Ananya with the food and everything else… she was trying everything to not go in Armaans room………..
Then Ananya reminded her to go on and check on Armaan…..what if he needed something.. she agreed and went upstairs…. As she enetered the room… she saw him sleeping……. She was relieved….. and was about to go when she changed her mind.. She walked towards him……….bent down near where he was sleeping…… The bandage on his head… and plaster on his hands…… A tear left her eye…….. she tried to touch his face… almost….. then backed out………… and left……..
Armaan saw this……
He got up and tried to change the shirt…….. Ouchhh he yelped in pain….
Riddhima who had just run out heard it and stopped……… she turned back…. and saw him struggling with removing the shirt she immediately rushed to his help and stopped him……. In the hurry she had forgotten to wipe her tears….. She helped him to remove the shirt……… and then she saw the wounds due to the broken glass………… She tried to control her self… but tears did start to form………….. "Riddhima" He called…. she looked away from him and went to his cupboard….. and looked for a easy to wear T-shirt….. she brought it and made him wear it… He kept staring at her…… She controlled her tears but the ones that had formed before…. left a mark…….. She asked him without looking at him… "Do you need to go down… I can help you with that…" He looked at her held her hand and said…. " Riddhima… I didn't mean to hurt you…….." Riddhima interrupted for the first time looking into his eye, " Why do you think you hurt me….." He touched her face and removed the tear from her cheek and brought it in front of her……… "This.. oh I was cutting the onions that's y…" "Riddhima" he said holding her hand…. and bringing it to his cheek….. " were u cutting onions by trying to touch my cheek" She looked at him.. that meant he was awake….. she tried to run away….. but he held her hand…….. she tried to run and in that pushed her hand…… it hurt him.. he yelped in pain.. she immediately turned….. towards him and said, "I am sorry……… I didn't mean to….." He smiled saying that he was just acting….. when she frowned…..and started to leave…..
"Riddhima…… please… let me talk……" She didn't want him to be tensed or hurt anymore.. she stood where she was and let him talk……….
"Riddhima…….. what I was trying to say that day is " she closed her eyes "that forgive me for not recognizing your love…….." she whispered to herself…. "please don't Armaan.. I wont be able to control my emotions if you keep doing this……" he continued "And I want to give us a chance…… I don't know if you willing to give me a chance… but I will wait for you…."
She started to leave and wept after going out of the room……… This is what she had wanted…. all her life…from the time she was in love….. and now that she was getting it.. what was stopping her………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
She cried…… she was not sure whether this was happiness or what….. but she cried nevertheless….. After composing herself she went downstairs and avoided coming in front of anyone as she knew they would send her to get Armaan.. and she would have to confront him then…… she tried to avoid it as much as she could….Once she saw that Armaan was being helped by her sisters she appeared and helped Ananya…. Ananya didn't ask her much.. cuz she knew she was tired and must have gone to sleep……
Everyone was happy now…….. They finished their dinner….. and then were just talking… when the topic came of how the accident happened…. Riddhima was in the kitchen…… she wanted to hear it to.. as to how did he not see the truck..
Armaan explained everything.. but when it came to the part where he was staring at Riddhima…he skipped that part completely.. and then continued…Riddhima couldn't believe him….. cuz he was never known to lose control with the car just like that….she thought she will get into the detail of how it happened…..later..
After some time they all retired into their respective rooms…..Ananya was about to tell Riddhima to take Armaan upstairs when Billy volunteered and he went upstairs.. while going upstairs he looked at Riddhima… but she tried not to look at him..
Ananya came into the kitchen…but Riddhima said that she would finish the work and then go home…
She was trying to avoid facing Armaan….especially after what he had said to her… she was not sure what her answer should be……She thought if she goes in later…. he would be asleep…..After about an hour she went to the room……. She peeped in.. he appeared to be asleep……..She took out her clothes from the cupboard and went to change…. As soon as she came out she looked in his direction.. He was sleeping peacefully….. She went near the window and looked outside…..for a while….. She felt a hand crawl up to hers but she thought he was sleeping….. maybe he was still awake….. He made her turn, her eyes were closed……….He made her touch his bare chest….. that was wounded…… As he moved her hand through the wounds…… she tried to pull her hand back……..but he did not lose his grip on her hand….
"Please Armaan"
"Riddhima……… tumhe dard hua na….."
"Please Armaan chodo mujhe.." tears formed in her eyes….
"Riddhima…… main janta hoon….u were affected the most by this but why are you acting so strange with me…..iska matlab yahi na ki tumne mujhe maaf kiya hi nahin….."
She opened her eyes and looked at him and then at her hand that touched the wound……. she leaned close to the wounds……..and moved her hands thorugh the wounds and cried….
"Hey Riddhima…. I am sorry… I did not mean to make u cry……"
"Armaan….. I was scared for you……… I was on the verge of loosing you again……." saying that she released her hand from his and moved away from him…. She sat on the bed and said… "tum please so jao…. tumhe aaram karna chahiye…."
He walked towards her and sat next to her…. "Riddhima" he turned her face towards his "I was afraid when I didn't see you in the hospital… you don't know what thoughts I had at that point……..I was scared….."
She looked at him and he looked at her….
"I will always be there for you Riddhima….. but please don't let me feel that I am losing you…… I was petrified in the moments when I did not see you…..in the hospital….. promise me…"
She kept looking at him…. "Armaan I promise you"……………………..
"But you have to tell me something……"
"Yes Riddhima"
"How did that accident happen?"
He looked at her , "I told na in front of everyone…." and looked away from her….
She looked at him and said nothing…….. waiting for the right answer…. He looked at her that she was unconvinced with his previous answer…..
"Riddhima I will tell you if you promise me not to be mad at me……" She nodded her head..
"I was lost while I was looking at you and just failed to see the truck"
She looked at him in disbelief… and then all of it made sense……
She asked him to sleep as it was too late now and helped him get into bed and went to sleep facing her back to him…..
He sensed that she did not like what she heard……… He slept looking in her direction while she wept with her back to him… because his life was almost in danger due to her…..
