I love it when Maan becomes tough yet soft... it makes him Maan the man and not Maan the dusht danav! :D
His concern over Geet's past was soo genuine...n he wasnt showing pity but real pain over someone having hurt a person like Geet...  he wont take Geet leaving him, even ytold her that he would follow her wherever she went and infact after the past revelation he made good of that promise following geet on pretext of helping her!  and yet he cant yet name his feelings as Love :)
Well, most of us take forever to understand what love is...so for him he is living the phrase "once bitten twice shy" ... what with Sameera happening to be a farce in the name of Love!!
Wow, now he has a relationship with JD too! n he is more open n vocal about how he desires Geet, not just for fake fianc business but as a companion! :)
Ooooooohhh!! a date is in the offing... would love it if Maan takes geet somewhere simple yet special... some place that holds a lot of importance for Maan personally! :)

Tum Kaun Ho?

A Maaneet Fan Fic

Chapter 39
Mar. 26, 2011 7:15 pm

"A date, he says. Just jeans and a shirt. What does that mean? Does that mean wear old jeans or new ones, a really nice shirt, or it doesn't matter?" Geet sat on her bed, wrapped in a towel, her hair dripping water down her back. "Ugh! He's such a man! 'Just wear whatever' they say, and then you end up being underdressed or overdressed. He said to wear a coat. Does that mean we're going somewhere outside? What could he be planning outside at this time of year? I'll just wear a nice pair of jeans and a nice skirt, that should work."

Geet walked over to her closest and got out some clothes. She spent a few minutes putting together different combinations. Then she blew her hair dry and got dressed. Standing in front of her mirror, she realized that the most difficult part of getting ready for a date had come.

"Okay, this is our first date, so I have to make a good impression. Well it's not really our first date, but those others don't count, and anyway, I had a professional doing my makeup. This time I'm on my own. I need to look nice but not over done. I don't like it when girls wear too much makeup. They look desperate and shameless. I can't believe how nervous I feel. I mean we've been alone plenty of times, well kind of alone. It's just that Maan actually asked me out for the very first time. Well, he didn't actually ask, he told, but it's not like I would have said no."

"Anyway, keep the makeup simple. Well, a little bit more than just the mascara I wear normally. A little color, but not too much. What kind of lipstick? Oh, but what if he kisses me? Would it be better to just wear some gloss? Geet, what are you talking about? Maan kissing you? How can you think about that and not melt? Anyway, you don't know that he will want to kiss you. Although, he was about to kiss you this morning in the kitchen. But I shouldn't read too much into his actions, I don't want to appear desperate. Except I love him so much, I am desperate. Ugh, I am going to go crazy before this date even starts!"

Geet closed her eyes and took a deep breath, before opening her eyes and looking herself in the mirror. "Okay, Geet. Whatever you do, don't let Maan know how much you are completely under his spell. He's a fabulous guy, but if he finds out your insides want to turn to mush around him, he will take advantage. Now, stop all this worrying and get ready. Maan said he wanted to leave by eight and you still need to put JD to bed."

Geet got out her makeup kit and got ready for her very first, official date with Maan Singh Khurana.

Mar. 26, 2011 8:04 pm

Geet always insisted on wearing a seatbelt when in a vehicle, so she and Maan sat separately in their respective seats in the back of the car, much to Maan's disappointment. He would have preferred to sit with his arm around Geet, but seatbelts made that difficult. However, it wasn't too long before they were holding hands as Nakul was driving them to their destination. Geet had tried to get Maan to say where they were going, but he wouldn't tell. No amount of cajoling on her part worked, and eventually she gave up.

The conversation turned to JD, and Geet narrated several funny events from their day together. Maan commented that it sounded like they had a lot of fun together, and he wished he had been there. Geet responded back that she didn't believe him, because the always found excuses to work on Saturday instead of spending time with them. They both argued back and forth about the truth of that, and Geet was so involved with talking to Maan that she didn't even notice when Nakul stopped the car. Maan opened his door and walked around to the other side to open Geet's door. When Geet got out, she looked around in amazement at where they were.

"Thanks, Nakul. Come back at ten to pick us up, alright?"

"Yes, Chote Saab." Nakul smiled in surprise at the thanks that Maan gave him. He couldn't even remember the last time that happened. Things really were changing in the Khurana Household.

As Nakul drove away, Geet said with excitement, "Navy Pier! You brought me to Navy Pier!"

Maan smiled at Geet's enthusiastic response. "I thought you might like it. You know, Geet, I've always wanted to bring a girl here before, but all the girls I dated in the past weren't into doing fun things like this."

Geet's mouth dropped and her eyes widened in anger as she asked, "You're talking about other girls when we're on a date?" She pouted and turned away, crossing her arms angrily.

Maan chuckled and her response and came closer, ready to pacify her. "Now, Geet, there's no need to be jealous," he said as he placed his hands on her shoulders.

She shrugged off his touch and turned her back to him, even as she claimed, "I'm not jealous."

"Oh, no?" Maan held her tightly from the back as he said, "The look on your face says you are. But really, Geet, there is no need to be jealous. I'm glad those other girls never wanted to come here. You're the only person that I would want to take anyplace on a date, but especially a date at Navy Pier."

Geet couldn't keep a small smile from forming on her lips at his words and the way he snuggled his face against hers. "Maan, stop it, people will look at us. Let me go," she complained, embarrassed with the way he was holding her, even as she thrilled at his touch.

"Geet, nobody cares what we do. Look over there. There is a couple who is making out for all their worth and no one is paying the slightest bit of attention."

Geet looked to where Maan indicated, and then away, uncomfortable to see that type of affectionate display in public. When Maan suggested that they should indulge in similar behavior, she reddened in embarrassment and pulled him towards the pier's entrance. Maan loved Geet's reaction. It was so fun to tease her and he hoped to have many more opportunities to tease her.

Geet had never been to Navy Pier before, so she was very keen to experience everything. She really wanted to ride the ferris wheel, and begged Maan to agree for it, but he refused. He said that they didn't have time to spend waiting in line. Geet didn't understand what he meant by that. Maan took her hand and led her through the pier to the south side, where the boats where docked. He approached one of the Shoreline Sightseeing boats, and when an employee greeted him by name, Geet realized that he must have arranged something for them. As the charter boat departed, Geet felt very special at the thought that Maan had arranged for a tour just for the two of them.

Though the night air was chilly, and the wind nipped a little, Geet didn't notice it a bit. With Maan by her side she thoroughly enjoyed the nighttime view of the Chicago skyline. Though she had lived in Chicago for almost six years, this was only the second time she had been out on Lake Michigan, and never at night. That was special enough, but to be doing all this for the first time with Maan, just increased her enjoyment even more.

As the tour came to an end and they headed back to the pier, Maan put his arm around Geet's waist as they stood that the boat railing, and said seriously, "Geet, I want to ask you a question, and I hope that you will hear me out and not misunderstand me." Geet couldn't think what was making Maan so serious, but she assured him that she would not misunderstand.

"Geet, if you hadn't discovered that file that Henry Nagle prepared on you, I'm not sure what I would have done." Geet stiffened at the mention of the file, but remembered her promise and kept quite. Maan continued, "I couldn't make up my mind to read it or not. I'd like to think that I would have given it to you, unread, and asked you to tell me about your past, but we'll never know what I would have done. However, I didn't read the whole thing, and as you so correctly pointed out, it only contained verifiable facts. I know that you've had a lot of pain in your life, some of which you shared with me, but I'm certain that you also had happy times. I'd like you to share those with me too. For example, I'd really like it if you would tell me about your mother and grandmother. I assume since you changed to your mother's last name, that you were fond of her. My question is, will you tell me about her?"

It was never an easy thing for Geet to think about her life back in Wisconsin, but as she contemplated Maan's words, she admitted to herself that there had been good times as well. Leaning so that her head rested on his shoulder, and putting her own arm around Maan's waist, she began to tell him a little more about her life. She told him how her mother used to play dress up with her and make her favorite foods. How she stood up to Daarji at least a little, and used to watch old Bollywood movies with her daughter when the men were at work. Daarji had been against having anything Indian in their house, so when Geet's mother died, most of that atmosphere was lost.

Her nani wasn't even allowed to keep her own religious symbols in her room, because as Daarji explained, she was living with them only through his tolerance. Though scared of Daarji, Geet told how Nani used to secretly make Punjabi food and feed it to Geet without Daarji's knowledge. It was Nani who encouraged Geet to do all she could to excel in school. It was that promise to Nani that had motivated Geet after her death, and allowed her to get into one of the most exclusive universities in the MidWest.

Maan was pleased that Geet had been able to share some of her past with him, and before they both knew it, they were back at the pier. There was about 45 minutes left before the pier closed, so Geet decided that they should do some shopping before they went home. She bought souvenirs from Ahoy Chicago, gummi lighting bugs for JD from iCANDYLICIOUS, and a figurine for Dadi from Passage to India. There was still some time left, so Geet once again asked Maan if they could ride the ferris wheel. He agreed and they were able to get on without waiting in line long. Geet thought that looking out at the Chicago nightlife from the ferris wheel was almost a good as it was from the charter boat. Maan was just happy to be sitting alone with Geet. That meant that he could have his arms around her without her feeling self conscious.

In the last few minutes that they had, Maan and Geet both got some egg rolls from King Wah Express. It was a good snack to end the night's activities with. As the pier closed down and the were forced to leave, they held hands again, having trouble keeping their eyes off each other. Too quickly for either of them, they met Nakul and got in the car and soon were on their way home.

Mar. 26, 2011 10:41 pm

As Geet and Maan walked into the mansion and deposited their bags on the hallway table, Geet said, "We should take JD with us next time. There are so many things at the pier that he would love to do."

"Geet, are you actually suggesting that we take JD somewhere that requires using money? I thought you only liked to take him to free places, like the library and the zoo."

"You're making fun of me again, just because I'm not used to spending too much money. Well, alright Mr. Khurana. I'll just start spending your money like water, okay?"

Geet tried to stalk away to her room, but Maan caught her hand and kept her from going away. "What are you doing?" she asked.

"The date isn't over until the man has dropped the woman safely back to her place. I'm escorting you to your room."

Geet wanted to stay miffed at Maan for his teasing, but it was awfully hard, when she felt the warmth of his hand on hers. It was all she could do not to shout like a crazy person that she had just been on a date with Maan Singh Khurana, the most sought after bachelor in Chicago. It wasn't the status of being his girlfriend that appealed to her, it was just the fact that the man who could have any girl he wanted, seemed to want her.

When they arrived at Geet's room, Maan said, "Goodnight," and she responded with the same.

Geet tried to move inside her room, but Maan kept a firm grip on her hand. "Geet, don't you know how a date ends?" he asked in a low voice.

When she gave him a quizzical look, Maan explained, "A date ends with a goodnight kiss. Will you give me my goodnight kiss?"

Geet blushed profusely, and could do nothing but look down. When Maan repeated the question and moved closer, Geet was still unable to look up, but nodded shyly. Maan waited for a moment, but seeing that Geet wasn't going to take the initiative, he decided to. He slowly raised her face by putting his fingers gently under her chin. He saw that her eyes were closed, but her lips were parted slightly, as if anticipating his actions. He leaned in ever so slowly until his mouth was lightly touching hers. As soon as their lips made contact, Maan felt Geet start to respond. This response encouraged Maan, and he pulled Geet in more tightly, even as he deepened the magical kiss that marked the end of their first official date as a real couple.

Now, I've been updating pretty regularly the last few days, but if you notice, the time the updates are taking place are pretty close together. I didn't want to fall behind, and so that's why I had a couple of back to back updates. Don't freak out if you don't see another update for a couple of days. That just means that time is passing in the story and that Aankhon Mein Teri also needs some attention.

Finally the DATE....and I am surprised Maan has behaved so well.. but of course he had that GOODNIGHT KISS in mind..LOL...maybe that why he was behaving so well all evening...πŸ˜‰

I am surprised at millionaire/billionaire/trillionaire  Maan Singh Khurana (sorry I have no idea how rich MSK can be in US currency!!) having such a simple date...with egg rolls for dinner..errr..snacks...but that is the influence of Geet I guess...she makes him want to enjoy all the simple things in lifeπŸ˜ƒ
