Chapter 4

Present

Dev rushed to the airport as the news of the crash aired in the news channels. Once there, he was informed that as of yet they had no information either about the survivors or the fatalities. He was told that he will be informed as soon as they find out anything. Dev wasn't satisfied; he desperately needed to see his brother. He headed towards Dadri but the area in the vicinity of the crash site was blocked. He used all his contacts, to try get there but nothing seemed positive for him. Of course it did not help matters that as of yet only five passengers out of 70 had been rescued alive, three of them women.

Geet threw the covers off of her as she hurriedly made her way to the washroom. She donned a simple grey sweat shirt and black slim fit jeans. She tied her hair in a braid and kept her clothes that she would wear in the function in her side bag.

She called her best friends Meera and Anwesha, informed them she would meet them in the rehearsal hall in an hour and rushed out of her room.

She went to the kitchen, picked up an apple and was about to bite it when her mother snatched it from her hands "how many times I am to tell you wash it and then eat"

Geet smiled as her mother washed the apple and gave to her. She sat on the slab as she ate her breakfast--apple.

"Mom, you're coming to the function... right" Geet asked as she finished her apple.

"Baby I might not be able to make it but Channi will come" Rano replied.

"You said you wanted me to do it" Geet replied with moist eyes.

"I do" Rano said "but baby doll, you know your grandfather. If he gets to know about your function and that you are participating in it he will be really angry, I have to stay home to make sure he doesn't find out anything"

"Mom when we know what we are doing is right then why this fear. I've not learned to live with fear and I will not. I know I am right and he will find out someday then why not now" Geet said as she got off the slab.

"You speak like your father" Rano replied as tears formed in her eyes.

"That's because I am like him" Geet said as she turned to leave.

"That's what I fear" Rano whispered as she saw Geet leave the house.

As the water swept over Geet and she was buried in it. Geet went down, down endlessly. Her eyes were closed, she was dying, but then in the midst of all came a touch of reason, she saw that one face--her father.

What was she doing?

She was her father's strong baby doll. Her father did not teach her to give up. He brought her up to be a fighter. She wasn't going to give up on her love that easily. Yes, she had made a terrible mistake but she deserved one chance to rectify all that had gone wrong, just one chance to make it all right, just one chance to undo her mistake; one chance.

She opened her eyes as her will to live took over her and as she did that, she saw nothing but water--water that she could not see through. She was shrieking under water. Her lungs ached, her heart throbbed. She was getting dizzy under water. She had lost all her breath. She was paralysed under water--stiff, rigid with fear--fear of never seeing him again. Even the screams in her throat froze and only the pounding in her head and the thudding of her heart said she was still alive.

She felt the soft sand as her feet touched the underwater ground and she did what her reflexes told her to--she jumped with all her strength. But the jump made no difference. The water was still around her. Her arms wouldn't move, her legs wouldn't move, she tried to call for help but nothing happened--sound just wouldn't escape her throat.

And then, strangely, there was light, she came out of the water, well, only her nose and eyes did. She sucked in air as the water once again knocked her down. She tried to swim but her body failed her as all efforts ceased. Blackness swept over her brain as she crossed to oblivion.

Chalooo I'm relieved that both are fine.. AHEM u didn't mention abt Maan's safety but cmon yaar.. How can The Hero die? 😆
