Bollywood divas rock DilliwalasNovember 20, 2010 1:47:15 AM
Divya KapoorIt doesn't happen every day that four actresses arrive in the Capital on the same day though for different events. While Sonam Kapoor and Neha Dhupia couldn't stop gushing about their love for fashion at their respective brand promotion dos, Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan discussed wedding plans at the press conference of their upcoming movie, No One Killed Jessica'I'll get married but only after Rani'They may not be the best of friends or, wait a second, may be they now are! Much was being talked about the cold vibes and "we-cannot-stand-each-other" feelings between Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan, the two leading ladies of upcoming flick, No One Killed Jessica, surprised everyone by looking at one another for support when faced with tricky questions from the media. They whispered in each other's ears and even pulled each other's leg when faced with the much-asked question of their respective weddings.
On their charactersThe film, directed by Rajkumar Gupta of Aamir fame, is based on the famous Jessica Lal case, the model who was shot dead in 1999 at a party in Delhi. It features Vidya Balan as Sabrina while Rani Mukerji plays a journalist who passionately follows the case. Both actresses denied meeting the main accused Manu Sharma or his family to get the hang of the characters.
Instead, they both drew their own characters based on the director's vision. "We never met Jessica's or the accused's family for the roles. Instead, we sat with Raj (Kumar) and created the characters with his interpretation," said Rani as Vidya nodded in agreement.
"In fact, Raj didn't want me to meet anyone for my character. I wanted to give my own reading to the character," she said.
Meeting Sabrina LalSince the film is based on a real life character, the unit thought it best to bring in Sabrina Lal, Jessica's sister, to answer queries related to her character. While Lal declared she has no problems with the commercialisation of her sister's life on screen, Vidya and Rani, both of who met Lal for the first time, said they look up to her for inspiration. "I'm falling short of words to say to Sabrina. From what I felt while portraying her character, I can only wonder what she must have felt as she went through the trauma in real life," said Vidya and this time, Rani agreed. "You inspire me Sabrina. I drew my strength from you every time you appeared on television," she said.
These cats never fight"Won't you guys ask us if we had any catfights on the set?" exclaimed a much-jubilant Rani at a point when the atmosphere had taken a rather serious note with the questions on Jessica Lal verdict. "Oh! we pulled each other's hair all the time," Vidya joined in. "No actually, we were both the cats on the sets so there were no fights!" Rani laughed. Wedding bells? Not now!
When the conversation drew towards the much-asked "When are you getting married? question, Rani, at her wittiest best, answered sportingly, "Media has been trying to marry me off for four years now. But meri baarat definitely aayegi. After all, my first movie itself was Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat in 1997. How can I not get married?" she quipped.
Vidya, on the other hand, chose to be politically correct when asked the same question. "I don't have a raja yet in my life.. I think I will get married after you, Rani," she laughed. "But that may take a lot of years, dear!" Rani replied.
As Rani will be seen smoking in the movie, she hopes it doesn't land her into a controversy. "I have seen many reporters smoking and I think what I have portrayed happens in real life. However, if a controversy happens, I will put all the blame on Raj," she joked.
"Oh! by the way, I hope the scene looks okay. Since I'm a non-smoker, I'm not sure it looks real or not," she asked one of the journos on her way out.
