PART 11 a

So, a card was bought and Iqra whose writing was really elegant wrote birthday wish and Geet's confession on it. Then, the time and place was debated and finally, it was decided that Geet will put card along with gift in Maan's room tomorrow in afternoon. Then, she will get ready for the party early and wait for Maan's reply. Fari said she will call Geet around 10 to ask for update and then, tell others. They promised Geet they will be at the party at 11.

Maan was getting ready for office when there was a knock at the door. Maan opened the door lock, it was Vishal(servant). Sir, dadima is calling you in her room.

Maan went to her room. He was surprised to find everyone except Geet and Dev sitting in the room. Dadi ma was on lying on her bed with her shoulder propped against the headboard. Dad was holding her hand and saying something to her. When raj saw him, he became quiet. Dadi ma asked Maan to come and sit beside her on the other side of the bed.

Maan: what happened dadi ma? Are you ok?

Dadima didn't reply.

Raj: Maan, have you seen the newspapers today? Without waiting for his response, he picked some sitting on the bedside table and handed over them to Maan.

Maan quietly looked at the headlines

Maan: i don't want to hurt anyone darji and of course, i respect you all and you have the right to know about me, what i object to is this ceremonial summoning, i am not a 10 year old and please don't treat me like a child.

Maan: no, i am not going to marry her because i have already asked and she refused. She is my best friend and as important to me as my family.

Dadi ma: Maan, can i ask you something?

Maan: you don't have to ask dadi ma. He hugged her. It broke his heart to see her looking so worried.

Dadima: get married maan. I really want to see you married before i die. Choose any girl but make it official Maan.

Maan sighed. I am really busy right now dadi ma, i am going to take dad's place and that will consume all my time.

Dadima: okay, then get engaged.

Maan: ok, then choose the girl you like and just tell me the time and place, i will be there.

Dadi ma: Promise?

Maan: Promise.

Geet pulled her door open and peeked out, no one was in the gallery, she knew Maan was in Maama's room. She went inside his room and put the card, rose and gift on the bed. Then, said a quick prayer to ask Allah ji for help.

She opened his room door and was about to go outside when she heard Maan's voice.

She quickly closed the door and looked wildly around for a place to hide. She saw balcony door and quickly moved there. She closed the balcony door. The window was open, she could hear everything.

She heard Maan coming in the room followed by others.

Maan: this is absurd. Geet is so young. How can dadima even think about it?

Simran: she is going to be 17 today and anyway, we are just asking for engagement.

Maan replied: yeah and wedding, next year.

Roshini: calm down Maan, you promised, geet didn't. If she refuses, then there will be no wedding.

Maan: dadima will manipulate her.

Simran looked at the card with a single white rose near it. There was a gift beside it as well.

She had seen the gift in geet room. Roshini and Maan were still arguing. She opened the card and read it. She was quite shocked for some minutes but then, suddenly grinned. She said, i don't think Geet will say no.

They looked at her. She handed the card to them. Both read the card same time. Maan looked really bewildered while Roshini thoughtful.

Simran winked at her, Roshini winked back.

Simran: so, now what?

Maan: maybe this is a prank.

Simran: i don't think that it is a prank.

Maan angrily threw the card at the bed and looked at them. I have nothing to do with it. I don't know how she even thought it.

Roshini: nobody is blaming you Maan but i don't understand why you are so angry? Do you still dislike her, i thought you two have become friends.

Maan: i don't dislike her, i i just.... i am 8 year older than her.

Simran: your dad is 7 year older than me. It did not create any problems.

Maan: you were 25 years old while she is only 17.

Roshini and Simran remained silent.

Roshini: so, what is your decision?

Maan said angrily, i promised didn't i? And stormed out of the room.
