Just pop up to say Hi to everyone. You are talking about the books, well ....Damon is super protective of Bonnie in the books, he is her guardian angel and their connection in the books is really strong.Bonnie is the one who has seen first humanity in Damon's eyes and Damon has shown only cared for Bonnie and Elena in the books, other than them he doesn't care about other humans. Its Bonnie( and Elena also) that brings out his humanity ! he feels something truly human when he is with her.

I will say Damon/Bonnie and Damon/Elena have really strong connection in the books,But to if I would have to choose - I would say Bonnie. Because he doesn't have to care or love for her. I mean its habitual for Damon to want something his brother has - Elena, but he doesn't have to care or feel for Bonnie. But he does.

Anyways I hated that they have made Caro a vampire.I love her so much and if they are going to kill her 😭, then book fans would be really pissed.I'm really anxious now, I can't stand this idea of Caroline being killed.Make Caroline as bad like the books but don't kill her writers.

I really wish Damon's hidden protectiveness over Bonnie and Bonnie's compassion and empathy towards Damon start really soon in the show.In the show, I really love that Damon doesn't behave as OOC when he is with Bonnie.We can see that OOC thing happens when He is with Elena in the show .

Anyways basically what Sabs said above. And I would like to add a couple of things to it. The vampire who's shown no care to humans - has never given anything to anyone without selfish reasons - give his blood to save a human girl's life and he does it selflessly! She was practically naked - he could have done some horrible things and she would have agreed to it because she was on the verge of death but instead he was modest. And she brought him joy - something he's never felt - when she opened her eyes, because he alone brought her back to life. She broke the stones around his soul/heart. He was ready to take a punch from Stefan if it meant Bonnie was healing in his arms. He looked for excuses to kiss her and he always tells her she should never fear him - he cares - and when everything is downhill it is she who calls upon him and makes him feel like a real Salvatore meaning Saviour. Stefan will always be Elena's Saviour so Damon deserves to feel like one too and Bonnie is that. His humanity in that sense. His light. She makes him do good without reasons and motives. He acts on sheer impulse. Can you believe that? Damon's usual impulses are bad but with Bonnie they are good because he wants nothing in return except her well being.

Geez just go to the first page and read through all the book quotes (excerpts).
