Par tum toh jaanti ho na inn relatives ko...bas yehin kehte hain "Kya ussay koi Bihari nahin mila"...Obviously not I guess...Isn't it self -explainatory....😆 Par main logon ki parwa nahin karti. Only care what parents and lil bro have to say that's all... And they have no objection to Maan! But my bro Maan ki vaat lagaiga. Akhir Maan ko bhi toh hot seat mein beithna hoga!!!!

Chapter 31

Daadima then gestures maan and Abs to join as well in the circle forming around daadi's knees. They all sat around daadi. Vicky and Maan got small poofs to sit on for everyone. It became a cozy family gathering rather than the tense inquisition that all of them were dreading.

Savitri asked lot of questions to Nargis about family her background, her ambitions, her successes and also added her knowledge that maan had hired her as their advisor so yes she must be good at what she does. Savitri's vote of confidence on Nargis' professional life was a fulfilling feeling however she was still having trepidations about how she felt about her being a Muslim.

She then threw the bomb she was half expecting yet not hoping to be aired. Nargis will your parents agree to you marrying a Hindu Punjabi Man? Nargis gulped. She darted a glance at Vicky but knew the ball was in her court, she had to answer this. She said, Daadima, frankly I don't know. But I do not believe my parents will ever think that I will do anything that is not right and Vicky has been so right for me. She decided honesty was the best policy here. She said, I have always been the obedient daughter, the best student and my parents have encouraged me all the way. They also had a love marriage 30 years ago and yes my father had to face a lot of family pressure and displeasure but distance from India had helped. Also my mother is probably the sweetest lady and she learnt urdu and hindi so well, she still follows Christianity though she is not strictly religious. She has brought lot of people in the family together with her caring and giving nature. . She turned everyone around and I believe, love, care and giving will always bring in just that in return. Yes the only person who can be a bit obstinate is my brother that too because he is protective of me and nothing against Vicky being Hindu, just that he is the man who will take his little sister away from him. I do love Vicky and if you think I will make him happy then I would like that opportunity. Yes, Daadima, if you tell me you do not think I am the right girl for Vicky then I shall accept that and wish him all the best. Nargis' said that with as much courage as she could muster. She had been folding and unfolding her hands as she has said these words, nervous yet knew that if really she were meant for Vicky nothing will come in their way.

Daadima then put her hand on Nargis' fretting ones and said, I understand, I would like to talk to your parents. When can we do this, no hurry, right now we have a wedding to take care of and maan here has not given me much time, I hope you two will not get into the rushed job, ek pota to meri dillee khwaish poori kare ki mein bade dhaam dhoom se shaadi karoon tum dono ki. Vicky hearing this, just went and hugged daadi. And said oh Mamma! You are the best! Kitna tension karwati hai and he was crying. Daadi hugged him back and said, haan beta, I only want what is best for you and I didn't know mera pota inna samajhdaar hai, menu laga si ki tu ek aisi kurri le aayega jo tumhari woh chamak challo hondi hai waisi, par I am so happy to meet Nargis.

She then looks at the clock and says, first lunch then baaki ki baatein baad mein, chalo, it was exact one. Butler entered to announce lunch was served.

On the way to the dining room, daadima put her arm around Abs and said, mujhe tumse bhi baat karni hai after lunch, office to nahi jaana, aaj shayad yahin kaafi waqt nikal jaaye. Abs looked at Maan and said, I am sure Maan wont mind, I may just need a few minutes to get updates from Adi after lunch if that is alright with you daadiji. Theek hai said Savitri and they all went for lunch.

After lunch, they all retired to the study for dessert, Abs made her call to adi, Nargis got her assistant to handle the office for her today and maan and Vicky went to sit next to daadi on the settee, that's where she had decided to move so that they could discuss the wedding plans. Vicky was trying to convince daadi to try and hurry up but Daadi vetoed it saying nothing before at least 2 months. It was almost two o'clock and the sun had moved to the other side of the house giving shade and a cozy feel to the study.

Once everyone assembled again, daadi indicated for the girls to sit next to her and the men got up and took chairs. With both the girls flanked on each side, daadi said, okay Abolee, I need to talk to your father tonight, so you will stay here till it is morning in Canada and we will call them. I am not happy that your parents have been introduced to me. I wish there was more time and I could actually go to Canada with thakka, lekin maan ki zid ne mujhe majboor kiya hai. Abolee, looked at maan and gave him a I told you so stare and said sweetly, daadiji, I have been telling maan to take it slow, my parents also need to make arrangements, woh bhi, yahan, anjaan desh mein.

Daadi raised her hand and said Ek baat samajh lo Abolee, aap Maan ke liye kabhi galat nahi bolengi, ye hamari khandani parampara hai. Woh jo bhi kahe waisa hi karogi. Hum jaante hain ki aap aaj ke zamane ki hain aure bakhoobi sab kaam sambhalti hain magar Maan aapke hone waale pati hain, aap akele mein jo kahe theek hai, sab ke saamne maan ki shaan kabhi kam nahi honi chahiye. Abs bows her head knowing she has been chastised. She also gives the same look to Nargis. maan was wanting to jump to Abolee's defense but held himself back.

Abolee was almost in tears with this rebuff, no one had ever been like this with her. Her parents had not scolded her ever, she felt as if she should have kept her mouth shut. But decided to add, Ji daadima, I understand, aisi galati nahi hogi kabhi. Daadi puts a hand on her shoulder and says, its fine. Just wanted to make myself clear. Aur haan, aapke parents ko yahan jald se jald aana hai aur hum saara intezam karenge, woh hamare mehmaan hai. We are going to be one family and I understand, that they wont have any help here in terms of knowledge of local places, I shall organize, drivers, cars and a house for them and no you will not disagree when Abolee tried to say something, I know aapke paas apartment hai par I want you to have peace before the wedding, you can stay in the house and go to your apartment at the end of the day. I know you must be thinking family se kya door rehna, par beta, think lot of commotion and your whole family will be there, you will thank me for this foresight later. Abs just nodded and did not say anything.

Maan looked at this, even he had not thought things would take turn like this. But he was glad, daadi telling her to keep her family away will ensure he and abs will have quality time together as well.

Savitri added, aur phir, mera pota tumse milne aaye to family ke saamne achcha nahi lagta na, giving a wink to Maan, who gawked at daadi for reading his mind. Abs missed this interplay as she was still embarrassed over what daadi had just pronounced. She didn't think daadiji would want maan to come and meet her. She was a bag of contradiction herself just like her pota.

Now another point, Nargis and Abolee, tumhein Maan aur Vicky ki ma ke baare mein kya pata hai? Both of them told her what they knew from the brothers.

Savitri then made the second announcement. Maan aur meri ichcha hai ki Poonam comes back into this house for the wedding. Mein chahti hoon ki woh bhi jald se jald taaki hum usse apni saari tayaari mein shamil kar sake.

Vicky then said, but mamma, ma ke liye yeh theek hoga? Wont it stress her? I remember you and maan telling how she deteriorated after coming home on some occasions. Daadi look at Vicky and an inexplicable emotions runs across her face. She says, beta, ek maa ke icchha kya ho sakti hai other than to see son getting married. I want all four of you to help me give Poonam the best stay. I have had a word with her doctor and he believes it will do her a world of good. I want you all to take time off work and give poonam every comfort and help in getting this wedding organized. I want you all to let her believe she is doing everything. From tomorrow, you will ask her first what should be done for the wedding and then we will discuss and get it done via her. I want her to have normalcy, don't pussyfoot around her, just be yourselves. Will you do that for my children? All of them nodded and each put their hand on the up turned hand of daadi in a solidarity that will bring Poonam back into the living.

The gajjar ka halwa and icecream made their entrance at that time. Seeing gajjar ka halwa, daadima looked at Abolee and said, ye tumne banaya hai na? mujhe ab yakeen ho gaya hai ki tum Poonam ko sambhalogi aur poorani Poonam phir wapis aayegi hamare beech. Poonam hamesha banati thi ye mere liye. She was such as lovely bahu, and I am sure you will prove to be one too and opens her arms to Abs, Abs, now not able to stop her tears goes into her arms and bawls her eyes out with emotions that this contradictory lady could evoke. She was salt and sweet. She was just daadi after all. She vowed that day to herself that she will bring the ultimate happiness to this family by bringing Poonam back in the family fold.

Maan, Vicky and Nargis had tears in their eyes and they were glad of the interruption by gajjar ka halwa for it was becoming one emotional family scene.
