Milenge Milenge-The sizzling chemistry is back!
By: ragu | Jul 09, 2010 02:38 PM
Rating: 3/5
Recommendation: Yes
Plot: 3/5
Cast Performance:5/5
Sound Track: 4/5
Cinematography: 4/5

Shahid and Kareena are back together or rather this story is where it all started. As the last scene of
happy ever after rolls in you are left moist eyed. It SHOULD have been like this. It COULD have been like this in real life. But destiny had other plans for them, obviously and its this destiny that plays an integralsootradharor compere in this compelling human drama.

Directed by Satish Kaushik and produced by Boney Kapoor, its evident that no money or effort has been spared to make it a marketable romance. Though its been some years in the making since the lead pair fell out during its filming, the film still carries a refreshing freshness that carries the innocence of early romance that blossoms between the young, in their early 20's. Kareena and Shahid both look and behave with a certain honesty and naivete thats missing in their later films. The later films are more studied, more deliberate, but herein they are like uncut diamonds, followingthe reactions of their heart and their instincts.
The story is simple. Amit sees Priya at a youth congress in Bangkok and falls in love with her. He lays hand on her diary and tries all the tricks in her book to woo her. The story moves fast as they becomeinseparablein those 5 days and Priya professes her love for him while hes left bewildered and unprepared by her intensity. A parallel can be drawn here with the recent I hate luv storys where the heroine also falls for the hero badly right before the interval.
In the post interval session is where Milenge Milenge scores much higher as both are separated when Priya discovers Immy's(Amit) real characterisctics like love for booze and ciggies. By then he has decided to turn over a new leaf for his beloved and by circumstances driving them apart, they try to move on in life withseparatepartnersbut the anguish of a broken heart stays with them. The last 1/2 hr is quite emotional as the 2 star crossed lovers make a desperate bid for their last chance at happiness with each other. It slips into silliness at times but the charm of the lead pair makes up for it.
The music has some good melodies and keeps the fun and feelings of youthful emotions alive. But on the whole its dated and no tune remains with you. The haunting refrain of "Milenge Milenge' does leave goosebumps and pops up appropriately making the audience yearn for their togetherness. And this, in my opinion is the trump card that the director holds. The audience emotionally connects with the leads and WANTS them to get together and defy the odds that DESTINY presents before them.

The screenplay is tight and with a running time of 2 hours there are no wasted frames, The emotional graph of the film is at the right tempo and makes the proceedings poignant and engrossing. A special word for Kareena who is introduced as "full of life" and shes right there, holding the performance together with her finesse as an actress. The film belongs to the 2 actors completely and they come up with credible, believable and never over the top performances. They are spontaneous but immersed in their roles very well. The chemistry is crackling.
Kareena looks delectable all through. She looks more alluring here, romping on the Bangkok beach than she did in that ' Tashan(i)' song in Greece as amatchstick. Shahid looks boyish but then he mostly does and pitches in an emotional performance. The photography is good with some splendid aerielshotsof Thailand, Delhi and Mumbai. The supporting cast is good, esp the fiancee' on both sides, Arti Chabria and Mr. Khan. Kirron Kher sparkles in a brief cameo and Delnaaz plays the usual friendly self.
It may not be ur date flick for the week, but its more heart warming than all the recent releases. Go for it, give it a chance :-)

kareena fans r way too sensitive, however when it cums to criticise other actors they do it in such a bad manner! i think both kareena and shahid were a bit immature around that time hence both went over the top, however now they have grown up, i still find kareena over the top in movies though like kambakht ishq and i see all her costars going over the top wid her in many movies so that is just mky general observation on her---i think on sum level it makes it funnier at times, i have nothing against kareena, but seriously kareena fans need to learn how to take criticism, i said nothing awafully bad about her, BTW--that comment was not because i was upset about shahid part lol---i know he tended to overact in comic parts!

Lets keep this discussion to the movie reviews and to the actors performances in Milenge Milenge only.
Do NOT bring in a fan group into the discussion at all.
After my reply, please do not carry forward the above discussion, and just stick to the reviews and personal reviews. Ignore maaro please.
Hate the movie, love the movie, hate the acting, love the acting-all welcome. Just do it in a way that I won't need to come after you with the rules lol.
