ArTi OS:- Holding On
He sat down comfortably on the bed with his laptop on his lap. After pressing the "power" button he waited for the system to load. He sighed wearily and thought of the day's events. He had been given a day off due to the stress caused by doing extremely intense and emotional scenes.
Once the system was logged on he opened the Internet Explorer tab and started surfing all his favorite sites. After going through a few of them, AND his blog, he went to the famous website "India-Forums" to see what the latest news was. His eyes scanned over the screen and caught onto one link which read It's Nupur who is dead in Miley Jab Hum Tum. Though he knew the news, he still clicked on it and read it. He was swiftly reading through the article when he read the lines "a little birdie also tells us that one of the reasons for removing Rati from the show was because she was apparently dictating terms on the sets."
Anger arose him. Rati and dictating terms on the sets? She was the most professional person on the sets. She did her scenes perfectly, with finesse and perfection. There were times when he was so awed by her acting that he would forget his lines and just stare at her. He saw that the article had gotten above 500 comments already, and wondered why the most popular character had been killed, the most popular actor axed! He himself was very popular, but nothing in the fronts of Rati. She was the most popular actress he had ever seen. Not just popular, but also immensely talented, beautiful, dignified and above all, a wonderful human being.
Yesterday had been her last day of shooting with them. The scene in which Nupur's soul walks away from Mayank, forever, was by far the most upsetting and difficult scene for him to shoot. While shooting for the scene he didn't feel it was Nupur leaving Mayank, rather he felt it was Rati leaving Arjun. Of course, it wasn't the same. Mayank and Nupur were soulmates, Arjun and Rati were friends. Nupur was dead, Rati was alive. But he could feel Mayank's pain, for some unknown reason.
He decided to talk to her and dialed her number, only to be greeted by her answering machine. Sighing deeply, he switched off the laptop and went to sleep.

He sat on the chair, ready to give the SBS interview. They had told him to speak about Nupur, as Mayank. He had mentally prepared himself for the interview, remembering all the keypoints of the character Nupur. When the camera and lights were turned on, he began to speak.
"Every moment I spent with her, the fights, the make-up, I remember everything," he said. The words came from deep within his heart, they were not part of any silly script.
"I will remember her By God a lot," he said, sighing deeply. He asked for the camera to be switched off.
He closed his eyes and wiped away a silent tear. He was feeling all choked up and depressed. He decided to get done with the segment before he completely broke down.
"I remember during the dance sequences when I had to twirl her around, she used to go off balance," he said, faking a smile. "And I used to always ask her why she couldn't dance in one spot and she used to cutely blame it on her spondilitis problem. And I used to tell her it's okay, no problem."
The segment got over, and they went for a Mohit-Sanaya segment. He looked at them, happy and joyous, enjoying their lives to the fullest. There wasn't a tinge of sadness or remorse in their eyes or behavior. They were fully content in their own sweet world, not giving a damn about whether Rati had been mistreated or not.
Why was it only him that felt so terrible, so low and so lfeless. Why did he feel closer to Mayank than ever? Why did he feel like he was living Mayank's life? Why was it only him who felt so depressed due to her exit, not the others? Why did he feel like holding on to every memory of hers?
___________________________________________________________________________________
As she flipped through the channels, she paused as she saw his familiar face on TV. It was SBS time. He looked really sad and upset, genuinely. They had asked him to speak about Nupur, the things he liked most about her. She stared intently at the channel to see what he had to say. What about her character did he like so much?
He started speaking about Nupur, emphasizing on her famous By God, but every word he said after that was about her not Nupur. She could see genuine pain in his eyes, a smile plastered with a lot effort and real tears, not the after-effect of dabbing glycerin in your eyes.
He spoke about her spondilitis problem, something that she must have mentioned in one of the million chats she had with him. He actually remembered it? Such a minute, such an unimportant detail, he remembered it?
She saw Mohit and Sanaya, having a blast, no sadness on their faces, not missing her even one bit. Was that called friendship? Their so called great friendship? In the end of the segment she saw Mayank...no...Arjun wiping off a tiny tear from the corner of his eye. He was more affected by her exit that she thought he would be.
She didn't know why, but seeing him like that, pained and depressed hurt her so much. It was like puncturing a hole straight into her heart. She didn't know why she felt like Nupur, all helpless and dead, why she couldn't bear the vile thought of not being able to see him everyday (which had been converted into a living nightmare). She didn't know why she wanted to hopelessly hold on to every memory she had with him, not wanting to let go. She just didn't know. But right now, she only knew one thing- she had to be with him, she couldn't see him in such pain.

She hurried down the rainy street, looking for that one face in the crowd. She knew he liked to get lost in the crowd when he felt down, so she knew it was the best place to look for him. Of course, looking for a person a huge crowd is an absurd idea, but to her it was the best option availible.
She walked on, glancing from face to face. Everyone either held an umbrella or wore a raincoat. She noticed a person covering his face with a hoodie. She wondered how someone could risk their health by going out on a rainy day, without umbrella. She pushed they guy out of her mind, because she had to find someone else.
She bumped into the guy in the hoodie. Something happened. She didn't see his face or anything, but something happened. Was it a connection? Was it a familiar touch? The simple bump with the person made her feel all warm and fuzzy. Why? She turned back, but he had just moved on nonchalantly. Turning front, she walked on.

He paused on his tracks, letting the rainwater drench him completely. A young lady had just brushed past him, but the mere touch of her drove him nuts. It was such a familiar touch, the touch he had always cherished, the touch that was enough to spend a chill down his spine. He turned back and saw that she was hurrying down the street, in the most "her-like" manner.
Something inside him clicked. It was her! It is her! He could recongnize her touch ANYTIME. The touch which was most close to his heart, her touch, Rati's touch. He ran after her and caught her by her shoulder.
She slowly turned back and faced him. He pushed the hoodie off his head, revealing his face to her. There was a slight shock on her face, which was immediately replaced by a I knew it look. She smiled faintly and hugged him tightly. He was shocked, but slowly snaked his arms around her and held onto her for dear life.
Then time froze around them, it was just the two of them, Arjun and Rati, two extremely confused individuals, both fighting the raging emotions and feelings inside their hearts. Nothing else mattered, except that they were together, maybe not in that sense, but in a way, they were.

Both of them sat in her apartment. She had bathed quickly, while allowing him to use the spare bathroom. Both of them sat in silence on the same couch, not knowing what to speak. It was always Arjun who spoke first, but this time, Rati decided to break the silence.
"I saw SBS," she said softly.
"Oh," he said, his voice equally soft. "It wasn't-"
"Scripted, I know," she completed for him.
"How?" he asked.
"You spoke about me, not Nupur," she said chuckling.
"Oh yeah," he said, laughing softly.
"I didn't know," she said.
"That I missed you so much?" he asked. "I didn't know either, but the sets, it's just so incomplete without you Rati."
"Why is that only you feel that way?" Rati asked. "Mohit and Sanaya seemed to be pretty complete."
"Don't take their words and masti to heart," he said quickly. "I mean they are like that, happy type, I'm sure they miss you too."
"Aren't you the happy type too?" she asked.
"Yes," Arjun said slowly. "But I don't know Rati, I feel so incomplete without you in the sets. It doesn't feel the same, it just doesn't. It doesn't have that homely feeling to it anymore."
"I miss you too," Rati said too quickly.
"What?" Arjun asked, taken aback.
"I miss you too, very much," she said. "I really miss you. I have finally become alright with what they've done to me, but still, I miss you so much!"
"Oh," Arjun said.
"I felt like Nupur, so helpless, like I wanted to stay with you, but I couldn't, so helpless and terrible," she said.
"You know what?" he asked. "I felt like Mayank, so lifeless. I felt like my entire life was being snatched away from me. I felt, and still feel so hollow inside. God knows Rati, what is happening to me."
"Arjun..." she said but stopped.
"Rati you know something?" he asked.
"What?" she asked, not looking up.
"I think I've fallen in love with you," he said. "I think I've fallen deeply and madly and crazily in love with you. The thought may seem absurd to you, but I think...I know I've fallen in love with you...I'm truly, madly, deeply in love with you."

She looked into his eyes and for the first time...no, for the zillionth time so that intense look, the genuine tears, but this time tears of happiness. And, she also saw true love for her. She moved closer to him and hugged him tightly.
Through tears of happiness, she muttered a million "I love you's" to him. Arjun also felt tears of happiness pour out of his eyes and he hugged her too tightly.
Slowly they let go and touched their foreheads.
"Mayank and Nupur separated for Arjun and Rati to come together," Rati said softly.
"It's destiny," Arjun said. "Destiny had this in store for us."
"I love you Arjun," she said as she closed her eyes.
"I love you Rati," he said as he too closed his eyes.
Then slowly and romatically, he placed a kiss on his forehead, the kiss of love, the kiss of a promise, a promise for a forever together.
And they held onto to each other, never to let go.
The End
