Shammi Kapoor might be old, chronologically speaking, but he is still very young at heart. At his peak, of course, he was one of the most energetic dancers of Bollywood.

Very surprisingly, he says that he has never worked with a choreographer! All his energetic and crazy dance moves were random, spontaneous and impulsive. He never followed a particular dance routine. He says, "I was very much influenced by my own self."

He said that he used to see movies in the theater once in a while and whatever he liked used to stay on in his mind, and then, he'd try those things out in his own movies. He said. "There's a song Don't be cruel; I took that and put it in the Dil de ke dekho... song. As far as the dancing is concerned, I made it all by myself. I never knew what would be my next step. Sometimes, if I had to give a second take, my steps used to be different. I couldn't do the same thing again."

Shammi Kapoor has had some timeless hits like Baar baar dekho, Badan pe sitare, Yahoo, Aaja aaja main hoon pyaar tera, Aye hasina zulfon wali, Aaj kal tere mere pyaar ke charche and Suku suku to his credit. Those songs are played at parties till today, and people from all age groups enjoy the music. So, does he think there are any contemporary actors who have the same traits as him? He very honestly and modestly said, "No. They are much better. Hrithik Roshan and all of them are much, much better. Even Shah Rukh Khan has done some excellent work...I did my things and they do their things."

Kapoor retired from the industry a long time back, but that doesn't mean he doesn't keep himself up-to-date with what's happening in Bollywood today. When asked about his opinions on the kind of films that are being made today, he said, "In my time, there was a lot of innocence involved. They were very sweet films. There was no lecture, no politicizing and there was a lot of good music. In today's films, techniques have evolved. But where has the music gone? I miss the melody of my time."
