I guess we're going back to where we started from. It is said that we were once a matriarchial society, but soon turned patriarchial.

Read again the bolded lines. Vast majority of them still remain oppressed. Reservation and subsidy benefits are cornered by the affluent few. Have you gone to backward areas of the country? have you witnessed the discrimination faced by them even today? Have you seen with your own eyes their poor living conditions? I have gone to different places and have seen and understood everything with my naked eyes. I dont need any second hand data
It is biased to say that women deserves reservation and not the backward classes. Just like women, OBCs, SCs, STs come under the oppressed sections of the society.

Have you noticed something finiky? We the affluent ones shout against reservation, stage protests against it. But you never hear the voice of a single one from these hypocrites, when dalits are burned to death, when backward class women are raped and killed, when the tribals die of starvation and malnutrition. We are selfish to the core. No one among us have any right to raise our voice against reservation, when vast majority of members of the backward classes live in poverty and misery and lead a sub-human life.

I am not against the reservation, lolz, but I fail to understand if you are favoring it or opposing it. I would like to assume that you are in favor but against how it had been carried out, correct me if I am mistaken. I am in the same boat more or less. I feel that the reservation has benefitted OBCs to a large extent in bridging the gap and eliminating racial discrimination to an extent. It is going to run its course in another 10 years and should be eliminated altogether for them after that.
Now coming to SCs\STs, it has penetrated a little in SCs but STs are still oppressed. Reservation is there but ppl are not there to fill the seats, lack of awareness abt the opportunities available to them. No engineering\medical\other professional colleges in tribal areas, forget those even good schools are absents. And the so called politicians who support reservations in parliament, when visit tribal areas howl for 14-15 year old girls from tribal girls hostels, thats how pathetic conditions are in tribal areas, ppl are scared to enroll their girl child in school. How did BODO militants and Naxalites come into existence, they didn't drop from the sky, did they? They are the result of the oppression faced by tribes from decades. Work needs to be done, a lot, when it comes to upliftment of STs and that may diminish internal terrorism by siginificant margins. Now Minorities (read as Muslims) are a little complicated to handle as they have a strong lobby with a different agenda so they need a different strategy altogether.
Now do you really want to know if I have been to tribal areas or witnessed the living conditions of poor? If you do then let me know and I will PM you the details😊

I think this is a confusing mess. First of all, the reservation is made to benefit the girls, so that they are equally represented and aren't considered 'backward', and then you all blame the government for discriminating. I feel bad for the government.
On the other hand, you make a valid point. Why consider the women as handicapped? They are the same except they have estrogen flowing in their bodies compared to testosterone.
My point is that now where will the men go? So many reservations are there for this group and that, so what about the normal average Indian male? I think that to make it all fair and square, the reservation quota should be reduced.

You are not mistaken, i'm not against reservation, but against the affluent few from backward classes cornering the reserved seats. But I dont think reservation alone can be the solution.

Yup OBCs are better off compared to SC/ST population. But not because of reservation, but mainly because of the various well organised social reform movements (especially in South India) which occured at the same time as our freedom movement. Many powerful leaders emerged from OBCs during that period including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Sree Narayana Guru, E.V.Ramaswamy Naickar, Jyothiba Phule e.t.c.. Today OBCs are well organised in South India, especially in states like Kerala and Andra Pradesh. Reservation also did play a minor part in their upliftment.

Majority of the SC population still remain oppressed (except in Kerala and Andra Pradesh). In many parts of rural North India still you find that zamindars rule over the peasant class. They are still treated as slaves. Cases of dalits burned or beaten to death are still reported( Who knows how many cases go unreported) Countless number of dalit women gets raped by upper caste men every year. They still have little access to education and wealth.

Regarding STs, what you said is exactly true. The reserved seats remain vacant most of the time, not only for govt: jobs but also in educational institutions. The schools you find in tribal areas are mostly 'single teacher' schools. There will be one teacher who will be teaching the children to read and write and also basic arithmetic etc. Very few from among the tribals go for higher education. Yup they started resorting to extremism when the oppression became intolerable, quite natural.

Yup, I will be really thankful if you share with me the details of your experiance in tribal/backward regions as this is a subject of my interest..😊

Hey why PM ? cant u post it here for everyone's benefit 😊 I have observed their condition too, its mainly bcoz they are cut off from the mainstream population & lack basic amenities. To bring them to level field the govt will have to do a lot to integrate them with rest of the ppl. But some tribals oppose this move giving the plea that their identity & culture is at stake !

Well I have witnessed it first hand too 😊 The opresion is mainly due to ignorance & corruption at multiple level. The aid simply does not reach where its meant to ! We need a strict monitoring system with fixed accountability of officilas as well as politicians! The public too needs to play a more proactive part against corruption. Unless we all play our part conscientiously , no amount of reservation is going to be effective in achieving its objective. It can help a few though !

I strongly believe all Reservation system should be for a particular period eg.10-15 years. we should stop all reservation system in 15 years time. Merit & quality should be the criteria for everything after this period. Otherwise We as a nation never grow...We should not perpetuate or repeat the old mistake.
