For the first few minutes, both Bharat and Aditi were lost in their own thoughts. As if on cue, both started to laugh, a happy, joyous sound that filled the quiet room. Excitement shining in her eyes, Aditi exclaimed "I'm going to be Mother! Oh Bharat, I never thought I would have so much happiness in my life. And it's all because of you my darling" she ended softly. Bharat stood and leaned over Aditi, placing his hands on either side of her head on the pillow. His dark eyes serious and intent. "Nahi Aditi, we're happy because we love each other. And this baby, our baby, is God's way of showing us that we were meant to be together ' always", his eyes warming with the same excited happiness as hers. His heart thumped heavily in his chest as he thought how much he loved Aditi. How having her in his life, had brought him a depth of love and happiness and contentment he would never had believed existed, if not for her. Unable to resist her soft pink mouth, Bharat lowered his head and took her mouth with his. Their was kiss soft, gentle, loving. When he lifted his head he saw the same understanding reflected in Aditi's eyes.
"Now you rest for a bit, I want to talk to the Doctor. He didn't say if he was going to keep you overnight. And of course, we need to call everyone with our wonderful news!" he said with a beaming smile. Aditi wasn't smiling as she protested "but Bharat, the doctor said I'm fine. We can tell everyone together - at home! As he began to shake his head no, she pouted softly "ple-ase, main theek hoon", pushing the sheet away to get up. Bharat had to hold back a smile at Aditi's pouting. He did understand how she felt, but he wasn't about to let her talk him out of checking with the Doctor. "Nahi, Aditi. I won't take any chances with your health." Then he played his trump card, which he had a feeling he would be using quite a bit in the coming months. "You have to think of the baby jaan" he said with a glimmer of male satisfaction in his eyes. He wasn't at all surprised when Aditi rolled her eyes and grimacing slightly. She also hesitated, which was all he wanted. Barely holding back the urge to poke her tongue out at Bharat, Aditi settled back against the pillows with a "humpf". "Don't think you will get away with using the baby every time you want me to do something I don't want to do Bharat Singh" she grumbled under breath. Hearing her grumble, Bharat couldn't hold back his smile or his bark of laughter. Bussing her nose, he playfully growled "we shall see meri jaan", and left to find the doctor.
Abruptly, she sat up and pushed back the covers, then grabbed her head with a grimace. "Easy Aditi, it already feels like a mad jackhammer is dancing in there." Ignoring the pain, Aditi placed her hand on her stomach. Rubbing in soft circles she whispered "hello there little one, I'm going to be your Mama" as a slow, joyful smile curved her lips. Only to be replaced with a very wry one, because she really couldn't believe she hadn't "connected the dots" sooner! Laying back against the pillows, Aditi closed her eyes, trying to imagine what her baby would look like. That happy, joyful smile returning as she pictured a baby with Bharat's handsome features and intense dark eyes. "Whoever you are my little one, just know that already you are so very much loved. And you are one very lucky baby, because you have the most wonderful Papa in the world", giving her tummy a gentle pat as she continued to dream.
Standing in the doorway Bharat had to take a long, deep breath to contain his emotions. He didn't know what he had done in his life to deserve this happiness, but he knew he would do whatever necessary to make Aditi, and their baby, just as happy. He wasn't sure how long he stood there staring at Aditi as she smoothed her hand back and forth over her stomach. And probably would have been there even longer, if the Doctor hadn't tapped him lightly on the shoulder. Fortunately, he had a fairly tight grip on the mounds of flowers in his arms or they would have ended up on the floor. "You have a question for me Mr. Singh?" Bharat nodded absently, his mind still on the image of Aditi caressing her stomach and talking to the baby. The doctor clasped his hands behind his back, waiting patiently for Bharat to gather himself, that twinkle back in his eyes. Self-conscious, Bharat cleared his throat before asking quietly "will Aditi have to stay Doctor?" "Well, I would prefer to keep her here overnight. But, I understand your eagerness to share this happy news with your family. So as long as Aditi promises to rest for the next few days, and I do mean rest" he emphasized with a raised brow. "I think it will be fine for you to take her home in a few hours." "Shukriya Doctor, that will make Aditi very happy."
Watching the doctor leave Bharat contemplated how he was going to keep Aditi in bed and resting for a few days. A quick grin creased his face as he thought of Divya and Aditi together, discussing the babies. A frown replaced the grin just as quickly as he thought of Divya and Aditi ganging up on he and Amar whenever they tried to get their respective patni's to rest. Then a very clever smile crossed his face, accompanied by a glint in his eyes as he stifled a satisfied masculine laugh. He would need to talk to Amar, but he thought he had a way they could keep both their indomitable women in check. Deciding to talk to Amar once he and Aditi arrived home, Bharat stepped into the room, closing the door quietly behind him. A very different smile crooked the corner of his mouth as he looked at Aditi. She had drifted off to sleep, her hand resting protectively over her tummy. Tiny though that life maybe, he knew exactly how Aditi felt, as a fierce protectiveness rose inside him, immense love and joy tightening his chest.
Leaning over to place a soft kiss on Aditi's forehead, her eyes opened. A sleepy smile curved her lips as she whispered "I love you Bharat Singh." Bharat felt the tightness in his chest ease, and the love he felt for this beautiful woman expand and fill his heart to overflowing. Not caring that he was squashing the flowers between them, he pressed his mouth to Aditi's, urging her lips to open for him. Loving her mouth, his tongue caressed hers slowly, then more intently, deepening the kiss until they were both breathless when he pulled away. Blushing a soft pink, Aditi smiled dreamily and asked shyly "are those for me?", nodding at the armful of flowers. "These?, he asked looking down, nahi, these are for the nurses." Disappoint clouded her eyes and the corners of her mouth dipped down slightly as she muttered "andar aao" to a loud knock on the door. "Those are for you meri Rani" Bharat pointed, grinning broadly as several delivery men entered the room, bringing in dozens and dozens and dozens of flowers.
"Oh Bharat!" Aditi whispered, tears slowly trailing down her cheeks, a smile of wonderment curving the corners this time. Handing off the flowers in his arms, Bharat asked the men to deliver them to the nurses station. Quicky rushing them out the door as he pushed it closed and went back to Aditi. He couldn't stop grinning as Aditi's eyes darted across the room trying to take in every hue, shade, shape and size; fragrance filling room. All the flowers symbolized his love and devotion, desire and passion, joy and happiness. Soft velvety lush reds, pristine whites, sunny yellows, mystical blues, lavish lavenders, and of course, deep vibrant oranges. Plus, spicy white and pink carnations (symbol of motherhood, pure ardent love), blush pink sweetheart roses surrounded by baby's breath, daisies and freesia (innocence), and honeysuckle (devoted affection, bonds of love, paternal affection) for the baby. And last, but not least, exquisite, delicate, exotic orchids for his beautiful Aditi. Who was simply amazed that Bharat had managed to arrange all this. But then thought "I shouldn't be, because when Bharat Singh decides he wants something, there isn't much that stops him" a dazzling smile lighting her face and eyes as she grasped Bharat's hand, tugging him down to seal his lips with hers.
Just an interesting tidbit ...
An old legend has it that originally all roses were white. One night, a nightingale saw a rose and fell deeply in love, inspiring him to sing a song. (Before this, nightingales only chirped and croaked.) When his passion overtook him, he pressed himself against the flower, and when the thorns pierced his heart. Ever after, the rose was forever colored red.
