Freedom
Episode 12
Aired On : 3rd October '09
The episode was about freedom available to an individual to take his own decisions regarding various aspects of life. Farah welcomes both Abhay and Neil as actors who have done their kind of films. In that sense they have always chosen films according to their wish. Both Neil and Abhay describe how they come from conservative families and despite that they have done some bold roles and scenes in their career, Abhay in Dev D and Neil in New York. Both of them talk about freedom in the light of freedom given by parents, freedom in a relationship, freedom available to the youth of the country etc. They face a quick rapid fire round by Farah where she asks them a series of questions. The episode also has a segment whereby Abhay and Neil answer some of the queries audience members had regarding freedom available to them.
The Main Hoon Na for the episode was a girl called from Calcutta. Her family especially her father was against her taking up a career in films as a photographer. Despite of that she was here in Mumbai today against her parents' wishes and although things had become better her relationship with her father was still strained. For auction, Abhay deol got a T shirt which he had worn in Dev D and Neil Nitin Mukesh got two paintings which he himself had painted. The show concluded as usual with Farah's step of the week, this time on "move your body" track from Johny Gaddar.
Anecdotes:
1 Neil tells that his father did not talk to him for almost six months when he had signed Johnny Gaddar because in his first film he was doing a negative role.
2 While watching a picture where he is dressed up as a girl during his childhood, Neil tells about his mother. His mother had thought that the second child would also be a girl and hence as a kid sometimes he was dressed up as a girl.
3 Neil reveals the fact that he still gets pocket money.
4 Abhay tells how conservative his family is and that he grew up in a joint family.
5 Abhay reveals that he has always been a rebel. While growing up everyone thought he would become an actor since his cousins and uncle were actors but just to oppose them he never agreed he wanted to.
6 As children the deol brothers including Bobby and Sunny were not allowed for late night parties. Often Bobby would stuff a pillow beneath the bed sheet and sneak out of his home. Abhay tried the same and was caught.
7 Abhay is the only one in the family who stays separately in his own house but he has to report everyday to his parents.
8 When Farah asked about the reaction of his family to a bold film like Dev D, Abhay tells he had kept a screening for his family and called his parents especially. His sister scolded him the most for doing so as she felt it was embarassing for the parents.
