My dad did mention once that Sitaphal is also called Sharifa in some parts of India... but the sitaphal we are referring to here is custard apple Mohit! Did you even look at the pics? or read the sitaphal/ramphal story? If sitaphal is a kaddu, then ramphal kya hai? Aaloo?? 😛

Rainbow, this is the problem with vernacular names and people who passionately defend their use. Aur tum log bhi... We should stick to the botanical names from now on. I don't know of any ramphal in Hindi, but custard apple should henceforth be called Annona reticulata and a normal apple should be called Malus pumela. 🤓😆😆

@Bugger: I get the point! I looked at the pictures... but to me, a speaker of high Hindi, it wasn't apparent how anybody could like kaddu-ice-cream. Now of course, I understand what you are saying... but Sitaphal (in Hindi) is kaddu. You still have the wrong name, even though you have the right pictures... 😛😆😆

Here's a simple solution... do try the 'mumbai sitaphal' ice cream when your in the city next time and try the 'mumbai se 3 din ki day journey duur village ka ramphal' fruit as well if you ever get lost in Maharashtra! 😛

Waise my dad makes great kaddu ka halwa, I'll ask him if ice cream is feasible for our high Hindi speaking friend 😃 and we DO get fresh sitaphal-cream here (from our very own local Haji-Ali's!) but no ice cream, and even that is seasonal.
