Chapter Twenty-Four
'I should be going now,' said Heer, making sure that Meher had eaten every inch of the food on her tray before she sought to leave. 'Didi...good luck,' grinned Meher, winking at Heer. Heer rolled her eyes, yet knew that luck was something she certainly needed tonight. As she left the room, she bumped into Preet who gave her an awkward smile. 'Heer Di...' he started but Heer interrupted. 'Thank you Preet' she said, to his surprise. Preet looked at her in stunned silence. '...for being there for her and taking care of her...She really loves you...,' she continued and he nodded. 'And of course, if you hurt her then I am sure you know that you will have me to deal with,' she grinned, playfully grabbing one of his ears. 'Aaah...Heer Di!' he yelped and she let go, grinning broadly. 'I won't ever hurt her...I promise,' he told her. 'I know...I trust you,' Heer said warmly and beckoned him to go back inside to his Meher before she left the hospital.

Heer placed the key through the lock of her hotel room, expecting to see Prem waiting impatiently for her inside. She turned the doorknob and stepped inside, taken aback to see the room empty. Her eyes flitted across the room, checking it to see if he was around and frowned to see that he was in fact not there. What was it with him and disappearing? She frowned as she noticed a small note placed on the bed, walking up and picking it up. 'There is a car waiting for you outside. Don't be long. Prem,' she read and took in a deep breath. And there went her hopes of there being no date at all- he so was not going to give up easily. Heer's body slumped as she opened her suitcase, wondering if she had bought anything decent to wear with her. She fumbled inside her bag, hopelessly failing in trying to find something good to wear. Choosing something to wear was never this hard.
Rummaging through her bag, she noticed something catch her eye. She reached down and pulled out the soft fabric, smiling as she stroking it between her fingers. She remembered buying it out of inquisitiveness, captivated by the simple yet exquisite broidery. It must have ended up in her suitcase by accident when she had hastily stuffed a lot of her clothes into a bag after hearing the news about Meher's accident. She decided that it would have to do and began to undress, taking a shower before getting ready. After changing into her clothes, Heer opened her purse and took out a pair of gold pear drop earrings that her mother had given her when she was young. She smiled in remembrance, sadly wishing her mother was with her today to share her happiness. She slowly got up and walked to the mirror, hoping she did not look as different as she felt. She was not at all used to dressing up and going out.
Heer sighed as she looked at herself in the full-view mirror, scrutinizing herself. The lemon chudidar looked even more beautiful than she had imagined. It fit her body like a glove, fitting each curve perfectly, the bottom flowing stylishly. She gently adjusting her earrings and applied a thin layer of lip-gloss. She opted for a natural look, her make-up kept to a minimum. She left her hair loose, the natural curls at the bottom still intact. She confessed to herself that blowing Prem away was something that she hoped for, despite knowing that her appearance wasn't really a significant factor in their date. She trusted that Prem knew the real her by now. But still a nagging feeling itched at her and she was unable to rid herself of it. Taking in a deep breath, she slipped on her healed shoes, grabbed a shawl and stepped outside.
~
As Heer walked outside, the warmth from inside the hotel was soon replaced with the cool breeze of outside, causing goosebumps to appear across the skin of her arms. She pulled the shawl closer around her arms and looked around, noticing a sleek black Mercedes parked just meters away. She hesitated, slowly walking up to the car, the black windows intimidating her. She almost jumped as the front window lowered down to reveal a formally dressed man sitting in the driving seat. 'Heer Maan?' he asked pleasantly. She nodded, for that was all she was capable of doing at the time. He came out, amiably opening the door for her and she slid in the back seat. Her shoulders slumped, crestfallen to see Prem not there in the car with her. 'Mr Juneja shall be waiting for you at the meeting spot,' said the driver, as if in tune with her thoughts. She nodded slightly and thanked him. 'I hope I didn't keep you waiting long,' she said softly.
The driver shook his head and laughed. 'No...not at all. You came so soon it surprised me...Since Mr Juneja had said you may take hours,' he chuckled lightly, concentrating on the road. 'He said that, did he?' Heer asked a little embarrassed, muttering it more to herself, already riled up. This was so not how she expected their first date to start. Her mouth suddenly fell open as the sound of 'Let's Get It On,' by Marvin Gaye hit her ears. She stared at the CD player and turned to look at the driver. 'Whose idea was it to put that on?' she asked him sceptically, pointing to the CD player. The driver glanced back for a second and spoke. 'Mr Juneja gave me instructions to play this CD,' he answered simply. Heer glared out of the window, shaking her head incredulously, for she should have known this would be down to him. The line 'if you feel like I feel, baby, then come on, oh, come on, woo let's get it on,' had her body stiffening and she quickly turned to the driver.
'Is it possible to turn it off, please?' she asked the driver and he nodded obediently. 'As you wish Ma'am,' he said, clicking the CD player off. 'Let's get it on,' she thought to herself, rolling her eyes and scoffing. Why did he have to be so irresistibly cheeky? She looked out of the window staring at the passing roads, a feeling of uneasiness swooping through her stomach. She sat in silence throughout the journey, having absolutely no clue where she was being taken. As the driver announced they had arrived, she could feel her heart doing double speed. The driver remained rooted in his seat, yet the door managed to open by itself. She soon realised that is was in fact opened by the one person who was responsible for inflicting blissful chaos in her life as he stared down at her. 'Hey,' said Prem huskily. He gave her a smile that made her go weak in the knees. It was a good thing that she was sitting down otherwise her legs would have given way.
Prem held out his hand for her and she wholly placed her hand in his, the sight of him producing butterflies in her stomach. His crisp white shirt and suave black trousers had her short of breath already. The way his shirt moulded over his perfectly broad shoulders down to the way it tucked neatly in his trousers did nothing to alleviate her sudden lack of oxygen. And who could forget the hair- in all its sleek and shiny glory. She gently stepped out of the car, her hand still in his, and looked down coyly at the gasp that she heard escape his mouth. Prem stared at her dazzling figure. It felt as if he had just had all the air deflated out of him. Her dress was elegantly simple, yet showed off her curves in exactly the right places that she almost exuded beauty. Whilst he tried to piece together the right words to say, a timid 'Hi' was voiced by Heer. Prem's gaze rose from her body to her eyes.
He did not appreciate her looking at the floor and gently placed a finger beneath her chin to lift her head up. 'I'm up here,' he grinned and she bit her lip in order to hide her smile, all fears slowly melting with him around. 'You...Ur...You look absolutely stunning,' he said, scanning her, hoping he did not sound like a babbling idiot. 'Are you trying to kill me?' he added impishly, leaning his head forward. Heer took a step closer to him. 'Why? Is it working?' she asked with similar playfulness. He closed his fingers around her wrist, bringing her hand up to his lips. 'You have no idea,' he uttered as he kissed the back of her hand, absolutely loving the blush that crept up her cheeks. 'You should be glad I'm here on time, seeing as you thought I would take hours,' she said intently. Oh how she wished to give him a piece of her mind for having been such a typical chauvinistic male. Prem laughed, bending down to kiss her cheek.
'Come,' he whispered by her ear, and everything was forgotten in an instant. 'Where are we going?' she asked as he tugged at her arm, leading her through a crowd of people. He turned to grin at her and pointed to the sky. She frowned and looked up in the direction of where he was indicating. 'The London Eye' he simply answered her unasked question. 'Ummm...Did I mention that I am scared of heights?' she asked timorously, her eyes widening at the big wheel like building that they were supposed to be spending their date on. 'I learn something new about you every day,' Prem teased and quickly gave her hand a squeeze as she pouted at him, the fear clearly evident in her expression. 'It's not frightening at all...' he said in an attempt to ease her, '...and I'm here...you can hold on to me...I won't mind one bit,' he added cheekily, earning himself a strike across his arm. 'It's not funny' she shot at him, yet unable to prevent the slow smile that played at the corner of her lips.
Yes I know I am ebil Niti! 😈😆 Will continue with the rest of their date in the next chapter! 😉 For those who do not know about the London Eye, look it up, otherwise it will all start to seem very confusing! 😆 Can't wait to read your comments! 😳
