60. NEW CASE (1)

Inspiration: A novel

Aaryan, Ajay and Boxer were inspecting the crime scene. Shotgun was collecting the evidence. Zubeen was clicking away.

The crime scene was a small duplex bungalow in Bandra. A woman was lying dead in the middle of the floor…. She was lying on her stomach. She seemed to be 70 – 75 years of age.

Aaryan: Victim ka naam kya hai?

Boxer: Naam hain Farida Khan. Ye K.K. Khan ki wife thi….

Aaryan: The K.K. Khan. Who died some years back?

Boxer nodded in answer.

Ajay contributed, "Mine padosiyon se baat ki. Inki koi kareebi living relations nahi hain. Sirf ek door ka pota hai jo ek photographer hain."

Aaryan nodded. They looked around for more clues….

"Shotgun ho gaya? Time of death kya lagta hain?"

"Rigor mortis se raat ke baara se do baje ke beech me."

"Theek hai. Autopsy ke liye body shift karo."

Boxer: Aaryan, forced entry ke koi signs nahi hai. We can assume that killer jaana pehchana tha.

Aaryan nodded.

Special Squad Office
Discussion table

Aaryan was at his usual place, sitting (for a change!). Deepika was at his right hand side, followed by Neha and Ajay. Boxer was in his corner smoking his pen. Shotgun and Zubeen were on the opposite side.

Aaryan: Toh guys, case aisa hain. Farida Khan was a widow of K.K. Khan, ek mashur lawyer, jin ki 8 saal pehle mauth hui. Farida Khan akeli rehti thi. Padosiyon se baat karne ke baad pata chala ki unke koi kareebi rishtedaar nahi hain. Unka ek pota hai, jo ek…. Photographer hain. Apart from that we have nothing.

Deepika: Aaryan, I think main autopsy shuru karti hoon.

Aaryan: Fine. Neha, try to find this grandson.. Come on guys, get to work! Waise Neha, Junhui kahan hai?

Neha: She called to say she cannot come today, tumhe toh pata hain naa….half yearly reinve-……

"Haan, haan" he interrupted.
Deepika looked at Neha quizzically making a mental note to ask for details.

He clapped his hands and the team got to its feet.

Autopsy Room

Aaryan pushed the door of the room and entered.

Aaryan: Deepika?

Deepika looked at him.

Deepika: Aaryan, kya inke koi medical reports mil sakte hain? I think ye ek diabetic thi.

Aaryan: We will see. Cause of death?

Deepika: Pata nahi Aaryan. Aur thoda waqt lagega.

He nodded and left the room.

Phoning Ajay, he asked him to search for Farida Khan's medical reports.

Neha's Cubicle

Aaryan came towards Neha's cubicle.

She was waiting for him.

She turned towards the screen of the computer.

Neha: Maine ye pote ke bare main pata kiya hain. Naam hai Rajah Hassan. Ye ek photographer hain aur film industry main photography ke ek rising stars main se ek hain.

She lowered her voice. Aaryan moved closer, aware that he was going to hear something interesting.

Neha: Ek contact hain….newspapers main for page 10 gossip. Usse mujhe pata chala hain ki ye aadmi acchi niyat ka nahi hain. Paison ke liye kuch bhi kar sakta hain.

Aaryan arched his eyebrows.

She handed him another paper, "Ye uska contact number."

Aarayn looked at the number and dialed it.

"Hello? Rajah Hassan. Main Aaryan Khanna bol raha hun Special Squad se…. Aapki grandmother, Farida Khan ki death huihain. Haan. Aap please Special Squad Office aa jaiye."

61. A STARTLING ANGLE(2)

Ajay and Boxer had fetched Farida Khan's medical reports from her house. Deepika spoke with her doctor, who confirmed that she was a diabetic.

Looking pensive, she made a quick stop to her desk to pick up some refrence books and disappeared into the autopsy.

Deepika appeared from the autopsy half an hour later.

"Aaryan, jara autopsy main aaoge?"

He followed her, wondering.

"Kuch pata chala?" he asked.

She nodded her head slowly. "Dekho Aaryan. Mujhe ek baat ka confirmation chahiye tha jo muje mil gaye, so I will tell you my suspicions."

He patiently waited for her to continue.

"Farida ek diabetic thi, okay? After preliminary investigations, I found nothing wrong. Jab muje pata chala ki who ek diabetic hain, I got a hunch. Mera gut feel bahut strongly keh raha hain ki inhe insulin overdose se maara gaya hain."

Aaryan looked at her, speechless. First of all due to her suggesting the method of killing and secondly due to the mention of those magic words which used to drive her crazy every time he said them.

"What?"

Deepika led him to the body and pried open the space between the toes and showed him the needle mark.

"Par Deepika, aisa karne ke liye toh us aadmi ko ek criminal mastermind hi hona chahiye......ya forensic pathology ka expert. We will need to figure this out."

Sixty minutes later, a tall, lean and outrageously handsome guy entered Special Squad. He was wearing clothes of newest fashion; a self confident look graced his face.

Aaryan came forward to receive him. He ushered him into the interrogation room and he signaled to Neha.

Rajah sat on the chair, appearing tense''

Aaryan shook his hand, introducing himself.

Ajay and Boxer joined him in the room.
