I agree in the current time ARR is one of the best but the overall quality has taken a nose dive.

Another thing there is no composer who doesn't pass his prime, you name one and I ;ll come with evidence, no one has remained at the top always.

ARR might understand all the sounds and know all the techniques, but i wonder if he can put together songs that have melody. Good in theory, low grade in practicals.😆

AR Rahman has yet to come to the level of RD Burman..movie Guides music is the best " Chore Kai Bandai Paayal" also music of Paakiza is out of the world ..rahman has not reached these heights.

Yeah, REhman will probably be a guy they talk about because he won awards. But veri few would listen to him as their musician of choice. I dont even think he's got enough good songs to fill a concert for example, though i dont know- he could fill up some tracks with his fusion or sumthing.😊

I don't understand how Ashwarya qualifies for Bhart Ratna. She is a profession actress who has get high wages and has amassed lot of money. What good has she done for common Indian. It is very stupid to give awards to actor or actresses, who are in business for personal reasons, they have not done anything to uplift lives or common Indian or be a great role model by giving self sacrifices.

Bharat Ratana should be given to people who are great educators or somebody who have gone to village level and uplifted people by social work or opening orphanage..fighting corruption..

Giving Bharat Ratna to an actress who was nominated Miss World and came to Bollywood to get fame and money and has not done any significant self sacrifices for betterment of Indians (timewise or money wise) is make Bharat Ratna a joke.

Her's a little rundown on Rehman's music:😉

Western pop/ blues/ jazz/ classical- not Rehman

Sufi- not Rehman

Gazals- not Rehman. OK let's give him the benefit of doubt- mebbe not tried

Bollywood melodies- not Rehman, he's had quite a few years and he's not done much

Pure Indian classical- not Rehman; being trained at sumthing doesnt mean ability to deliver sumthing that sounds good

Yes, if we buy into the hype, then he does have a knack for sounds and for mixing strains from classical Indian into his music. But it doesnt create any more acceptance for Indian classical or bollywood melodies, than mixing oil with water. It just helps with the halo creation😉

I cannot stand " Chaiya Chaiya" anymore..each and every Rehman concert start with this extremely boring song.

I will take Anu Malik's "Mein Ghar aau gaa" any day. Some of the songs by Anu are brilliant.

Hey, They are Rehman songs. They must be good and they must be listened to ad nauseam, There must be sumthing in them if he's making it to all the snob lists. We just gotta listen harder😆

I know what you're saying about that song. Chaiya lasted all of one nite, that too because the movie was different and the picturization was great. The song was a bomb, but given how so few of his songs are not, i suppose that has to be his bread-and-butter song.😊

Unless the "sau saal pehle" song was used in a desi remake of Twilight and the singer was a 300 year old vampire singing to his 300 year old Vampire lover

Yeah, but not always for the better. Not always in a straight line. Not always without missteps.

Yeah, as far as "The times they are a changin'" goes, we're all used to the changing. We just like talking about them here.😛
