Karan Johar makes them cry!

It's not the first time he's brought people to tears. We're not talking about his tear-jerker movies; it's KJ's chat show which is getting highly dramatic and controversial, too. Sometime ago, Rakhi Sawant wept on his show, before that macho hunks like Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Deol were moist-eyed while talking about their personal lives. Recently aap ka Himesh bhai broke down on the sets of KJ's chatty show. Surely no one can handle Bollywood's bold and beautiful brigade better that KJ. And if the rest of 'em need a shoulder to cry on they know where to go!

Kabir Khan to produce shows for NDTV

MUMBAI: Director Kabir Khan (Kabul Express) will be producing three shows for NDTV's upcoming channel NDTV Lifestyle, which is scheduled to go on air next month.

The three shows will be produced by Khan's production house Camera Art. Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Khan says, "The three shows will be on air from the next month when NDTV launches the new channel. One of our shows is a chat show that will be hosted by Rajat Kapoor, the other is a health show and the third one is a unique show on pets."

Khan's wife and television anchor Mini Mathur will be a part of the production team for these shows. "Mini has also been part of the creative and other details related to the show, which I hope would be a different treat for the viewers."

Khan, who has a three film contract with Yash Raj Films is also scripting his next venture for the production house.

The trend of Bollywood courting the small screen is becoming a popular phenomenon now.

After Mahesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films announced that it is planning to supply content for TV channels, it's ShahRukh Khan's turn to do the same.

Reportedly, the actor has a 10 per cent stake in the BAG Glamour; the new entity promoted by Anurradha Prasad of Bag Films and Media Ltd.

Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has joined the fray and will be making content for NDTV Imagine. It's also learnt that Yash Raj Films is also eyeing the TV space and might join the bandwagon soon.

This is the first time you are shooting in LA, how is it different from New York?

In LA, Everything is by the book. We have a lot of foreign cast in the film, and we had to go through the screen actor's guild. There are rules, modulations, and it's very disciplined and very Hollywood. And very film-friendly.

You had to change venue during KANK, due to the crowds..

There is no crowd here. We are the only crowd. We are about an hour-and-a-half out of LA. People won't even know where it was shot. It could be any heartland of America. We needed this kind of location and it suits us perfectly.

How many hours do you shoot?

Twelve hours a day… the foreign crew may work single-shifts of eight hours but we desi girls and boys put in longer hours. Also we have to work fast because we lose light by 4.30. I am working with an entirely new crew this time. Barring SRK, Kajol and me, it's an all new team. I have new ADs, a DoP and production team. I have never worked with Ravi Chandran before.

Also, it' s unlike a KJo film?

Yes, I feel like I am not me, and it's not my film. I feel like I am directing a film for someone else. There is no lip-syncing in the songs, there is no choreography…I am missing Farah (Khan) and I will make her do one song for the film. I am missing the sound of her voice screaming and shouting, and her one-line gems that she keeps throwing about.

How did you spend New Year's?

We all went out for dinner. I am way beyond that age where I feel the need to do something extra special for the New Year. It's just another day. I just want to be around family and friends.

Yes, and they are all there: SRK, Gauri, your best friend Kaajal (Anand), your mom...

Yes, I like going back from work to familiar faces after pack-up.

Kajol has still to get there.

Yes, and I can hardly wait for her to get here. I will be working with her after eight years. I know I will break down when we do the first shot together. She and I will get emotional and Shah Rukh will be very amused by it. We also did this during Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. After the first shot, we hugged and cried. We will shoot their first scene together on the 7th. I am really looking forward to it.

SRK presenting at the Golden Globes?

Bollywood will also be represented by Shah Rukh Khan, who has been pencilled in to present an award (a first at the Golden Globes for an Indian actor). Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is currently stationed in Los Angeles for the shooting of his My Name Is Khan, is also a special invitee at the awards ceremony.

SRK to present a Golden Globe

If all goes well, then for the very first time an Indian actor will present an award at this year's prestigious Golden Globes. Shah Rukh Khan has been invited by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

Here's a first!

HFPA is the organisation behind the awards and for the first time in the 66 years since its inception, an Indian celebrity is tipped to present an award. Shah Rukh Khan is currently in Los Angeles shooting for Karan Johar's My Name is Khan, and the awards are being held there, so it might all just fall into place. It is believed that Karan Johar has also been invited to attend the award function.

Just formalities now

Says a source from LA, "People from HFPA are in talks with SRK and are supposed to drop in on the sets of My Name is Khan to extend SRK a formal invitation to attend the ceremony on January 11 at the The Beverly Hilton in LA. King Khan will have to sign an official letter confirming his presence at the ceremony."

Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire is also tipped to be a major winner at this year's award season. The director will be present with A R Rahman who has also been nominated for the Best Musical Score.

Shah Rukh, who's currently in LA, replied to say, "The organisers got celebrities to present nominees etc and want me to present a film in the Drama category, walk the red carpet, give interviews et al. It's supposed to be a big honour. The guys who called me are from HFPA. Also, on the 11th I have time off from shooting so it will be fun because Rahman is nominated for Slumdog Will be nice to see him win."

Karan Johar to step in as host of Imagine's Oye! It's Friday

MUMBAI: Farhan Akhtar's latest outing on television for a show on NDTV Imagine, Oye It's Friday has had disastrous TRP ratings. The director who successfully metamorphosized into an actor of repute in his first film, Rock On, tried his hand at anchoring with this show.

Despite well known guests like Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan, the show TRPs were as low as 0.8.

In an effort to build up the show's equity, Akhtar will give way to Karan Johar, who will anchor the show. While Johar is currently shooting for his film - My Name is Khan - in Los Angeles, he is expected to be back in India by January end. Pertinent to note here is that Johar is on the board of NDTV Imagine and Dharma Productions holds an equity stake in it.

Reveals the show producers, "It is not that we have replaced Farhan with Karan Johar. After a few episodes Karan will be replaced by another top notch director."

On the other hand, Akhtar has already shot with Shah Rukh Khan and that show will be spread over two episodes.

Is it true that you have become a 'dietician' to Kajol and Kareena?

Oh my God! I expected you to start with Dostana and you shot the other way…(laughs). It's all right.

See, I have not become a 'dietician' to Kajol and Kareena in a true sense, but I have given them some suggestions to abide by if they are interested in working in my next films. I have asked Kajol to lose some flab for My Name is Khan. And I told Kareena not to lose weight for an unnamed Dharma Productions film to be directed by a friend Rensil D'Silva.
