Part 11
Milind= Blue Prachi= Red Inder= Brown Amrita= Purple
"Prachi are you happy with this marriage?" Inder Shah asks his daughter.
"I'm ok with it"
"I'm asking you whether you'r happy with it or not. Do you love that Mishra chap?"
Wearily "I'm happy dad"
"Are you sure? You don't seem elated to me"
Averts gaze to Bobby who plays in his crib.
"Dad I thought I told you to change his name" she reminds him.
"Amrita likes Bobby"
"Do you know who they call Bobby these days?"
"Who?" Inder looks confused.
"The eunuchs" she clarifies.
"Damn" Inder mutters.
"Fine suggest a name then"
"I'll get back to you by tomorrow"
"Why... you'r gonna consult Mishra on this too"
"He's the one who told me about it. It's only fair he chooses another name"
"Well he can name his own child this one's mine" Inder states possessively.
"It's not like he'll have a child day after the wedding" she protests.
"He can wait till he has one. End of discussion" stubbornly
"He wants the wedding soon... next week"
"What!!!" screams
"Didn't he tell you?"
"Well I didn't know soon meant next week"
"Congratulations on the communication gap and I thought Amrita was stupid, the whole lots the same"
They decide on the venue, gifts for her inlaws and the menu.
"Dad did you love maa"
"I love your mother"
"I meant the one who's in Canada"
"I don't think I did"
"Did she?"
"No"
"Then why'd you get married?"
"Your grandfather had wanted it that way"
"Your dad?"
"Yup my dad, reason I keep asking whether you'r happy with your marriage decision or not. You can well understand my concern"
"I do dad" rests her head against his chest while he hugs her warmly.
"Prachi I made these for you" Amrita brings in a tray of hot pakoras.
"Thanks" Prachi smiles ever since her talk with her mother in Canada Prachi has started seeing Amrita in a new light. They've bonded on a more personal level and a budding friendship has blossomed between them. Amrita is more of an elder sister to her and a friend first and foremost.
"Are you going to wear all that traditional jewellery? Your guy loves it, was showing me samples of them"
Prachi makes a face "I don't want to be decked up like a mannequin"
"I told him that"
"What did he say"
"He thinks I have superb taste I should help you shop"
"Did he not tell you, you'r hair was soft and shiny and that you could do much better than Jolie"
Amrita laughs "You know him inside out don't you"
Smiles sadly "Yes I do"
"What are you gonna wear?"
"Crimson lehenga.... I like that traditional. We can keep the jewellery light"
They discuss shoes and items she'll take along with her to her new house.
That night.
"Hello"
"Nice surprise"
"I called to thank you"
"For agreeing to marrying you.... yes I know tough but then I'm a generous soul can't see anyone in misery"
"For making me realize I was a fool to shut out my relations"
"Hmmm.....You'r dad called"
"What did he say?"
"Said if I didn't keep you happy he'd name our child Bobby"
Smiles "Dad's kind of over protective"
"He loves you"
"Very much"
"So are you happy?"
Whispers sadly "Yes"
"I don't want my baby being named Bobby" worriedly
"It won't come to that"
"Are you afraid of intimacy or something? You'r so unromantic"
Rudely "Deal with it"
"Well this is real life not onscreen" surprised
"It's fake not real"
"I'm fake to you?"
"You know why I'm marrying you"
"Last I checked it was because you loved me"
Silence.....
"If you'r not ok with this we can still call it off"
"I'm ok with it"
"Doesn't feel so"
"What do you care about feelings"
"I care about you"
"Liar!"
"What is it I have done that has maddened you so? Have I not told you repeatedly I love you... damn it I can't stop thinking about you. What do you wish from me?" enraged
"I don't know"
"Are you marrying me for my money?" unhappily
"What!!! how could you even think that way?" shocked
"Well then what is bothering you?"
"I don't think I love you and it would be selfish of me to impose myself on you. You've done nothing besides loving me and I cannot repay in kind"
"Who asked you to repay anything?"
"Do you not wish to be loved with the same intensity as you love me?"
Laughs sorrowfully "I guess you never understood my love"
"All I ever wanted was for you to be happy but it is clear you think this is a burden. Well then the wedding is off, I cannot see you suffer at my hands. I had wanted to marry you because I was sure you loved me too but that is certainly not the case. Goodbye Prachi."
The line drops dead.
