Atharva Walia, get down here this instant, Bani shouted, her hands on her hips. Atharva was two years old, and quite a handful. His latest adventure was to climb up the sofa and then the cupboard and sit on top of it, throwing toys down and laughing when he heard them crash to the ground.
Atharva, Bani said again her voice still raised. Atharva came down whimpering and ran to his father who had just walked in.
Papa Papa, mama shouting, he said pouting and holding on to his father's leg. Jai bent down to his level and hugged him.
No, beta don't cry, it's alright, he said gently patting him. He looked up to see Bani now staring angrily at him.
He cleared his throat and replied, beta you should listen to mummy. You are a good boy, aren't you, he asked.
Yes, Atharva said hugging his father. Okay now say sorry to mama.
Sorry mama, Atharva said making a sad face.
Bani looked at both father and son looking cutely at her and she couldn't help but smile. It's okay sweety, but no more climbing on the cupboard.
Okay mama, Atharva said. Bani planted a kiss on his cheek and he laughed and ran out. She shook her head and then looked towards Jai. Aap jaake fresh hojaiye, I will be right back with your coffee, and began walking out.
But Jai moved in front of her and leaned in showing his cheek. Bani bit her cheek to keep herself from smiling and tried to move away, but Jai came back and stood in front of her, showing his cheek again.
Jai, yeh aap kya kar rehe hai? Please, I am really busy. But Jai did not budge and stood stubbornly in front of her showing his cheek. She signed and leaned in and kissed him. Ab khush? now please let me go.
Jai smiled and shook his head no and showed her his other cheek. Jai Walia, she said getting angry with him, please move I have work to do.
Jai chuckled to himself. You look so cute when you get angry he said. Bani rolled her eyes. Jai laughed and pulled her into his arms. Her protests fell to deaf ears when his lips met hers.
It had been four years since she had been married, but his kisses still managed to make her feel like she was being kissed for the first time. She always felt butterflies in her pit of her stomach. He always kissed her with so much passion, she felt weak in her knees. As she kissed him back, he pulled her closer. Bani, he whispered against her lips, you enchant me. His hands proceeded to feel her soft skin and he pulled her pallu and dropped tender soft kisses on her neck and chest. Bani moaned pulling him closer and arching her neck giving him better access.
A knock on the door spoiled the moment. Bani pulled herself up immediately and adjusted her sari. She looked at Jai who had an annoyed look on his face and turned to face the other side. Bani took a deep breath and opened the door to find Tony waiting outside. Yes, she asked. Madam, masi is calling for you. Okay I will be there in a moment. He nodded and walked off. Bani walked over to Jai, and placed her hand over his shoulder. I am sorry I have to go she said. As, she walked out he heard him grumble, they never leave us alone, even now. Bani couldn't help but laugh, she remembered what he said they day he proposed to her.
Jai heard Bani's tinkling laughter in the hallway and he knew what she was thinking about. A smile formed on his face, and he shook his head. Another cold shower, he mumbled and walked in. When he came back out, he saw a cup of steaming coffee on the night stand and took a sip. He signed; she still made the best coffee. He walked out to the balcony and stared out to the lawn. It was being decorated; Natchiket was getting married today to Namrata, Pushkar's sister.
The last few years had been eventful, Nachiket coming back onto his life and becoming a part of his family. He and Bani had left to Canada a few days after their wedding, where they met up with him. Barnalli's condition had taken a toll for the worse, and she was now admitted in the hospital. Two days later she passed away a happy woman, finally able to reunite her son with his family. They stayed back in Canada helping with the funeral arrangements, and also getting to know Nachiket. He was a wonderful person, and Barnalli had bought him up very well. He felt uneasy around them at first, and it was Bani who helped ease the tension. He walked up to Jai and said I'm sorry, and Jai just hugged him. He looked just as lost as Jai had looked all these years after his mother died. He knew that Nachiket was in the same boat as he was, bought up with his mother's love but always earning for his father, craving for his love and acceptance, but never really getting it.
They came back to Mumbai and Jai formally introduced him to the world as his brother. There was a lot of business turmoil, and he did face a rough patch. But, Jai stood firmly with Bani and eventually his family by his side. Nachiket's fun loving and caring nature soon got everyone to like him, and he felt like he had been living with his family forever. He stayed in Canada, but commuted back and forth to India. It was on one of his trips he happened to meet with Namrata. Over time, he fell in love with her, but was scared to ask for marriage because of his past. Bani found out and told Jai about it, who immediately went on his behalf to meet Pushkar's parents. But, it had seemed there wasn't any cause to worry. They loved Jai and seeing him with Nachiket, they realized what a wonderful man he was. The engagement was held a week later and they were getting married today.
A soft knock bought him out of his thoughts. He turned around to see Bani walking towards him. She smiled at him. Are you okay, she asked, you seem lost. Jai pulled her into his embrace. Thank you Bani, Thank you for everything. They stood for a while, when Bani spoke, Jai you don't have to thank me for anything. We are in this together; I will be by your side just as you have always been by mine. Now get ready. Everybody will be coming soon. Jai let go and nodded.
An hour later, Nachiket was married to Namrata. Bani was sitting with her sisters talking. As Pia was talking about her latest fashion collection, Bani found herself thinking back. Pia had become a successful designer and was all set to open her own boutique. She was 7 months pregnant and she was glowing. Rano and Ranveer had finally tied the knot, and she smiled going back to when he proposed to her. She had just graduated with honors, and Ranveer was late. She had started reading him the riot act and in the midst of her tirade, he made the mistake of smiling goofily at her. This only incensed her further and she spun around and walked off. He tried to catch up with her to apologize but she ignored him all night. Finally, he lost his cool her, walked up to her and spun her around in front of everybody. Chashmish, will you marry me? he barked Rano glared at him, yes you stupid langoor. Everyone stared at the two of them, and burst into laughter. Ranveer took a bow, and everyone clapped their hands. He looked at Rano who was blushing with her head down. He walked closer and kissed her on her forehead, and hugged her. I love you he whispered in her ear. She smiled and held him tighter. A month later they were married. Soon after, Rano joined Walia industries. It was on that day that Bani found out she was pregnant with Atharva.
She looked towards her son, who had begun yawning and she excused herself and excused herself and walked towards him, to put him to bed. She touched his hair; it was black and soft just like his fathers. He seemed to be a exact copy of him. She remembered staring at Jai's photo for hours everyday, because masi had told her that if she looked at beautiful baby picture, her baby would look just like that. She realized she wanted her child to look just like Jai, she blushed at the thought. He had given her the best years of her life. She enjoyed every single day basked in his love. She found herself dozing and soon fell asleep.
Sometime later, she felt herself been carried. She opened her eyes sleepily to find Jai staring down at her. She smiled and closing her eyes again held him tighter, as he placed her in their bed. She suddenly jerked open her eyes, oh no I left everybody downstairs. No, they are all gone, Jai replied. I wished them goodbye from your side, saying you were busy with Atharva. They all know how hard it is to put him to sleep. He then smiled at her, It's only you and me now, he said. Bani blushed and buried herself in his chest. He held her face and raised her chin. How about we finish what we started, he asked staring at her. Bani felt weak under his gaze and just smiled. It was a lot later in the night, that both fell asleep exhausted in each other's arms.
EPILOGUE
Aditya decided to retire and finally settle down in Mumbai itself. He started a new restaurant, which eventually became a big hit. Anu and Sahil finally got to be with their father longer, but it was Jigyasa who was most thrilled. She had missed him tremendously over the years, and it was on her 40th birthday that Jai had flown Aditya in his private jet as a surprise, to tell her that he was never letting her out of his sight.
Rano and Ranveer went on to have twins, a boy and a girl. Being parents did not stop them from still playing pranks on people and each other, although the frequency did die down a bit. Rano soon opened her own consulting firm and Ranveer pitched in once in a while.
Pia and Pushkar had a girl, Sahana and a boy Yash, 3 years later. Pia went on to become a household name in fashion and was doing very well for self. Pushkar opened Shukla law firm. However he never left Jai's side, and to this day, he remains Walia industries only lawyer.
Namrata and Nachiket moved to Canada, where both of them handle his mother's hotel chain. He couldn't let go of it, but would drop by every 6 months to be with family. They eventually had a son named Veer.
Jai and Bani had a wonderful life together. She was blessed with another girl, Krishna few years later followed by another boy, Ayush. After she delivered her fourth child, a girl they named Sanjana, just a year later 😛, she decided that she was going to have no more kids. (Sorry, just had to add the numerous children 😉). Jai was not very happy initially, but eventually gave in. After all these years, he still can't seem to get enough of his beautiful wife, and it lead to numerous arguments and then them always being late to any event they had to attend, although Jai had a feeling that Bani loved those moments together as much as he did.
Every Diwali, the entire family met at Walia house to celebrate. The love, the lights, the happiness resounded all around. In this house everyone was welcome, everyone was accepted and everyone was loved and cared for. Jai and Bani made sure of that.
