No Vera, Australia currently have only 2 points. If they beat Oman (which they might), they will go up to only 4 points. So, washout between Zimbabwe and Ireland will knock both Ireland and Australia out of the tournament and with 5 points Zimbabwe will go to Super 8s.Originally posted by: missFiesty_69
If match doesn't happen, Zimbabwe will get 5 points. Australia has a match with Oman, I think. If they win, they'll get 6 points and advance to the Super Eights.
Of course they all have to complete their scheduled matches in group stage irrespective of the results.
Cheers..
It's raining in Pallekele and the entire ground is under covers. However, the forecast is for the weather to improve as the day progresses and hopefully we'll have some cricket. Mind you, a washout will be enough for Zimbabwe to qualify and it'll also result in the elimination of Australia. For now, toss has been delayed
Sowmya : "The whole of Australia would be following this match ! " -- They will not be liking what they are seeing, though.
Aswin: "I know it is early !! But whats the cut off time for Australia's elimination? " -- A washout or a Zimbabwe win, whichever is earlier. If neither materializes, Australia will live to see another day. -- nooooo. Australia in super 8s is still dangerous business.
Arnav: "Praying to the cricket gods for a Zimbabwe win today!" -- For what it is worth, a washout and a point apiece works just fine for Zimbabwe too.
Azweer : "It will be a World Cup to forget for Australia. " -- And as Alex Malcolm writes, everything went wrong for them, and all at once.

Sorry, I thought Australia had 4 points. Rain or Zimbabwe winning, both will have the same outcome I think.
Charles: "Is rain about to decide the only exciting group in the tournament? zero upsets in this world cup, and rain deprives us of this drama..." -- it would be a bit of a damp squib (quite literally). But fingers crossed this rain clears up. This group deserves to be decided on the field.
Alan: "Zimbabwe have played this tournament like men possessed. The intent and focus they have shown so far makes them deserving of a finals berth. It would be a shame if their qualification is attributed to weather, because they have earned this." -- Don't think many will attribute it to weather because, well, they did beat Australia. But if given the choice, they might also want to win today to give themselves a further shot in the arm before the Super Eights.
Before the T20 World Cup began, many thought the associate nations would make the first round one-sided and predictable. But what a surprise! Every associate team has played fearless, competitive cricket and pushed the big teams to the limit. Cricket wins. Long live the game
It's still a light drizzle, but it looks dark behind and we can barely see the hills in the background. Plenty of water on the covers and we can see droplets falling onto the blue sheets. As is the case at any Sri Lankan venue, the entire ground is under covers.
Ireland and Zimbabwe are perfectly balanced — 16 matches played, 8 wins each. No ties, no dominance — just a true 50-50 rivalry. Every time these two meet, it’s anyone’s game.
MC: "Any chance Namibia pip Pak tomorrow and give Charles (and all the rest of us) the upset we crave?" -- Folks in the USA will be quite chuffed with that result too.
No... It's not likely to happen. Pakistan might lose with India but dont think they are at the brink of loosing to Namibia.
