An Asia Cup appearance, against Afghanistan and that too in the opening game was, in captain Yasim Murtaza's words, a dream come true for Hong Kong. The romance of a fairy tale start, however, was gate-crashed with the reality of the Asia Cup. And now, they have to pick themselves up, dust themselves off and go at it again. Against…

A Bangladesh side itching to leave an early mark of their own. They are not as inexperienced as Hong Kong, but there is a notion that they have not quite fulfilled their potential in this format - both continentally and globally. This time, they arrive with momentum. With greater belief, with perhaps a clearer picture of what they want to accomplish, and with a dash of the dazzle the format demands, hoping that by the end of it, they will be vindicated and that they will finally have something tangible to parade.

Dew was a factor on Tuesday but Afghanistan had tightened the screws enough by then to ensure it was not decisive. Afghanistan also went against the grain by opting to bat first that evening. Will the captain winning the toss adopt a similar tack, or will they go back to the tried-and-tested formula of wanting to chase? Toss in 5.

It's a Bangladesh team that appears a lot more receptive to the demands of new-age T20, compared to even a couple of years ago, and they arrive in this tournament high on confidence after series wins over Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands. We've had two one-sided matches to start this Asia Cup and it'll need a special effort from Hong Kong, who were hammered by Afghanistan on the opening night, to prevent a third one.

If you don't already know, there's some history between these two teams, dating back to 2014 when an unfancied Hong Kong side beat Bangladesh in the World T20 as it was known back then. That too on Bangladesh's home turf. Babar Hayat and Nizakat Khan are the two players from that game for Hong Kong who are still part of the setup.

Bangladesh's batting lineup has undergone a major transition and the likes of Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain, along with captain Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy aren't afraid of going for it. And as far as bowling goes, their pace bowling stocks have never been richer, while Rishad Hossain - the leggie - has also grown rapidly in a system that has historically ignored legspinners. Their bowling group played a key role in those three series wins mentioned below.

Murtaza: Wanted to bat first. We got what we wanted. Made few mistakes in the middle with the batters in the last game. Whatever has happened has happened in the past. New day today.

Bangladesh have won the toss and have opted to field

Litton: We'll bowl first. First game for us, don't know how the pitch will behave so looking to bowl. Have played very good cricket in the last three series but these are different conditions. Three seamers, two spinners and six batters. Every game is important for us. Have to give 100 percent.
