Vijay: "Gill under a helmet in the slips. But why?" -- Likely because they are now standing closer to the stumps due to the low carry

Shino: Has the Indian slip cordon adjusted their position for the bounce of the wicket? -- "It is not easy to know where to stand because some balls are bouncing from a length and some are staying low."

STAT: The false shot percentage in the first 15 overs today was 38.4%. That’s the joint fifth-highest false-shot percentage for the first 15 overs of any Test innings in England since 2006 (135 matches, 499 team innings). Four of the top six instances have been at Lord’s.

Akash: "Crawley had a control percent of 54. Thats appalling for an opener on a rather flat deck. Like Boycott wrote in the Telegraph article, "its easier to stay in the English side, than to get in.""

Bumrah to Pope, 1 run, full and closing in on off, Pope plays the straight drive and Bumrah manages to get down in time to get a hand on it. The bails come off at the non-striker's end before rolling wide of mid-off. Root was alert and had his bat well inside

Driven straight back and did Bumrah get a hand on it? Looks like he has. Root is well in though.

Having lost the toss, Gill noted that he would have been happy to bowl first citing help for the bowlers in the first session of a game. Well, the Indian skipper won't be too disappointed you'd think. No exaggerated movement, but the ball did swing and seam early on with extra bounce playing hide and seek from both ends. Despite playing considerable amount of false shots, English openers did well to wade through the first hour unscathed. It was, however, the change of bowling right after drinks break that worked wonders for India. Nitish got rid of both openers in the space of 4 balls and nearly got Pope in the same over as well. Plenty of plays and misses. A few kept low, and few bounced sharply. Bumrah looked tidy in his first spell, and perhaps saved his pacy-short-ball spell for later. England would be looking to score briskly in the next two sessions as the movement seems to have reduced gradually over the last 5-6 overs. Shaping up to be a good battle this one.
