Only two batters have five 50-plus scores from No.9 or lower in Tests in a single country - Stuart Broad and Mitchell Starc - both in England.

This is the longest partnership of the match so far; Bavuma and Bedingham added 64 in 19 overs in SA's first innings.

On the second day of the WTC Final 2025 between South Africa and Australia at Lord's, the bowlers once again dominated the field, taking 14 wickets.

Highlights of Day 2

➩ Temba Bavuma (36) and David Bedingham (45) pushed hard, but Pat Cummins dismissed the lower order. South Africa was All out for 138.

➩ After taking six wickets for 28 runs, Cummins reached 300 wickets in Tests.

The fall of Australia's second innings

➩ Lungi Ngidi (3/35) and Kagiso Rabada (3/44) came back and took Australia with a 73/7. An eighth-wicket partnership of 61 runs between Alex Carey (43) and Mitchell Starc (16)* retained Australia.

➩ At the end of the day, Australia was 144/8 and led by 218 runs. Nathan Lyon (1)* and Starc (16)* will bat again on Day 3.

➩ Two DRS reviews got lost by South Africa, and Marco Jansen dropped a catch of Starc at the end of play.

This is the seventh time that Australia have gone past 150 after losing first seven wickets for less than 75 in a Test innings, the first in the 21st century.

It is the second such instance against South Africa, and the fifth in Test matches in England.

South Africa have successfully chased down 250-plus five times in Tests till date, three of them coming against Australia, the last of which was 414 at the WACA, Perth in 2008.

Only two successful chases of 280-plus at Lord's till date: 342 by West Indies in 1984 and 282 by ENG vs NZ in 2004. The first was a nine-wicket win led by Gordon Greenidge's 214*, the only wicket of the innings coming via a runout. The second was a seven-wicket win for the hosts, led by Nasser Hussain's 103* in his farewell Test.

Only two pairs have three 50-plus stands for the 10th wicket in Test cricket history: Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc for Australia and BJ Watling and Trent Boult for New Zealand.
