Well, reservation is a way to eliminate casteism. One of the main things people get wrong about reservations is that they're based on economic conditions of the recipients. No, they're meant to get a significant amount of LC people in spaces dominated by the Upper Caste members.
Bold: What are the samples that you’ve seen?
Caste based reservation does not eliminate casteism and instead propogates it
some degree of time based reservation based on economics of family may make sense for perhaps 1 gen for education.
As for data ,, the cut offs are shared openly. What you mentioned is you have seen that majority do exceeed cutoffs and that is simply not true as then one doesn’t need any reservation, let alone increase it.

Let’s hope the wokes and sickulars remember this before screaming “humanity” next time
Reservations are here to stay.. However the country should not solely be dependent upon reservations even if the intent is to uplift the communities. The seats, particularly in jobs are very very limited. First of all not all reserved seats gets filled up. Secondly, even if lets say all the reserved seats gets filled up, many would still be left behind because the number is so less. If we accept that the caste based division is not a problem in city, then is it not fair to look towards cities for solutions ?? My best of the best friends are from SC and ST categories. But we all come from a near similar economic strata. Neither they nor me are friends from people below a certain economic strata. I also say this with experience that a person above our economic status will not mingle with us. All I am trying to say is that through economy we did manage to bridge the caste divide but not the class divide, which I don't think can be bridged. So I don't think we should undermine economic upliftment which may not solely happen through reservations. We need a booming private sector and also encourage traditional industries, so people involved in those industries can be benifitted. Also there was a news that 60% of the dropouts from IITs were from the reserved categories. While reservations can help them get into these institutions does anyone think about how they will sustain the pressures ? I know of people who see the caste of the doctor while getting treated. Will this ever make a doctor from a reserved category be treated fairly ? Can we really blame people for being cautious about their health ?
I am not at all saying that reservations should end completely. If the communities feel they need it, they vote for it, it is there to stay. It's fine, if it helps them in someway. But there should be alternatives for upliftment apart from reservations... This notion that economic upliftment can't do social upliftment is wrong IMO. An economically powerful person from a so called backward community has anyday more cards in his/ her hands than an economically backward person from a so called forward caste community. What FBIr3port has suggested in his post is about strengthening education which can form a strong foundation. Giving them reservations and throwing them in the market where if government, which again has very less seats, does not absorb them then what ? Economic upliftment is important and it's important for all communities. Also people may not like to talk about it but when a candidate from a UR category looses on opportunities it does sows the seeds of resentment. Had there been no dearth of opportunities, it would not have been this big of a problem. But we have a problem with our private sector too which for some odd reason is not giving enough salaries to its employees, which again leaves the government sector as an opportunity for people to raise their standard of living and there the window is narrow. We need to think of economics. Just like demography, economy too is destiny.

Technically reservation will be there because of the lower class which have little resources, cut offs were and are lower for them but issue is only a section of those keep exploiting it generation over generations. To uplift everyone a strict measure is needed.
See Tina Dabi
Both parents are IAS still she needed quota.
agreed.

Your second question-- about why there are reservations in JEE and NEET-- these are based on a wider principle of social justice. Many LC students, especially from poorer areas, are unable to study in good schools or have access to good tutors because of their caste background. Since they are born into systemic discrimination, standards have been relaxed for them in order to make them blend with the mainstream.
Although there's one thing I'll agree with: Too much marks relaxation in the MEDICAL FIELD is quite dangerous.
The key word here is especial from poor areas, do you really think the children of a doctor or an IAS officer will not have access to good school/tutors? And what makes you think that a person from a supposedly upper class with little money will have an access to good school/ tutors? Any school or tutor will check for their fees/remuneration, not for the caste.
Yes they have been discriminated for years so this social upliftment is good. But don't you think that now it's the same family which continues to get reservations for generations? Whom do you think will get an SC seat? An SC candidate from a village with no access to good schools/tutors or an SC candidate whose parents are doctors and goes to best School and tutor?
This means that SC candidate from the poor areas you mentioned, still doesn't get an upliftment.
Shouldn't there be a rule that a family won't get reservation after having availed it for 3 generations? Or at least something like a creamy layer thing present for OBC(maybe make the threshold higher for SC/ST), so that even the unprivileged gets something.

You're not understanding what I'm saying. After the results were announced, the information (names surnames etc.) about the qualified candidates would be out in the open, right? And from there, you can do a household survey and know which candidates came from lower caste bachgrounds. Surveys are based on data and also on interviews of candidates from several batches in successive years.
Let's be practical.
The address or contact details of candidates aren't mentioned after the announcement of results, no one can practically find out the such details of all the qualified candidates to do this survey.
Aside what do you mean by "most of selected candidates had over general cut off"
Assuming there are 101 seats for the exam, then there would be 50 reseved seats and 51 open seats. Now if you say that most of the selected candidates from reserved category had over general cut off (meaning they got selected as general candidate)
So we already have 50 students here who are selected as reserved students, so if most of the students selected from that background had got a score above general cut off, then that needs to mean that at least 51 candidates who applied through reserved category got in as general (having scored more than general cut off)
Does that mean all the candidates selected are from from the background of reserved category? No one from supposedly upper caste got selected? If that's the case the anger of supposedly upper caste is justified.
as I said you really need to revisit that survey, this statement is completely impossible
