The defending champions - Kolkata Knight Riders will lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens in the afternoon clash, while the Punjab Kings will take on the Chennai Super Kings, later in the evening. Teams that have done well in the past have struggled at the start of this season, while teams that are yet to lift an IPL title have done well to start off this season. The Capitals, Royal Challengers and Punjab Kings are placed in the top four, while teams like Mumbai Indians and Super Kings and Sunrisers are languishing at the bottom. The Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants are placed in the middle of the table, but a win today will help them climb the ladder.

The top-order batters of Lucknow Super Giants have been in supreme form and their bowling which is fairly inexperienced has gelled together as a unit. Things are slowly starting to fall in place for the Giants despite injuries to their fast bowlers like Mayank and Mohsin. In Digvesh Rathi and Ravi Bishnoi they have two strike spinners, while the fast bowling unit looks a lot better in the presence of Shardul, Avesh and Akash Deep. For the Knight Riders, their openers are yet to fire together, so that's an area of concern. They have plenty of all-rounders though, so the team looks well-balanced despite their opening woes.
