Pathirana- The Grim Reaper

With Bumrah still injured, Pathirana is the best death bowler in the IPL. He is backloaded- meaning he bowls the majority of his overs at the death. If you bowl at the death- you get more wickets, pure and simple. Bats have to attack you and as Pathirana is extremely hard to get away- going at less than 8 runs per over at the death in his IPL career- not only does he get wickets through his undoubted skill and guile, he also picks up cheapies.

His performance points have been pitched too low as he’s hopeless in the field (although he did take a good catch in the last game) and he never bats as he’s always subbed out. As a result, Paddy Power/Betfair have his performance points line at 20.5, basically saying he needs to get 2 wickets to win. As you can see from the table of his last 10 IPL games below, backing overs would yield consistent profit.

Dube- Lots of hype, not many runs

Form is everything when it comes to betting on batsmen’s run lines. Shivam Dube started IPL 2024 like a train but tailed off badly. If, like Dube, you bat with concrete boots on it’s difficult to regain form when you’re out of nick. Dube’s recent IPL form is rubbish. He was caught on the rope for 9 (7) in the first game with his side needing a run a ball. Against RCB he chopped on for 19 (15) and last time he managed 18 before Hasaranga had him caught in the deep. He ended last season’s IPL with scores of 7, 18, 21, 0 and 0. So that’s 8 scores in a row under 22. His runline? 22.5 (Paddy Power, Betfair). That’ll be an unders, then.

Kuldeep- Not just a one trick Pony

We understand why bookies put Pathirana’s line at 20.5 as he’s never batted in the IPL and is a liability in the field. You can’t say the same about Kuldeep though, and his performance line is the same (Paddy Power, Betfair). He batted 5 times last season and has already batted this term. He’s got a first class hundred, so he’s not getting subbed out. He’s also in the form of his life with the ball- he’s taken 5 wickets in the 2 matches so far this season and took 10 in 5 in the t20WC last year. With Chennai historically offering the most turn of all the IPL venues, the pitch should suit his bowling and mean he's more likely to bat.

Faf du Plessis is a Sixy Man

As Faf is into his fifth decade now he’s actually become more of a hitter than he used to be. Du Plessis looks in good hitting form so far this IPL- he has 5 sixes in the 2 innings. He got 3 last time, more than anyone else for Delhi. In the MLC last year he cleared the ropes 23 times in 8 matches. In the last IPL he scored at least 3 sixes 5 times.

What to expect: The pitches have been on the slower side so far in Chennai but RCB's new ball bowlers extracted bounce and movement as well. However, with this being an afternoon game, spin is expected to dominate proceedings.

Thanks a lot Soni for the thread and the tagsmiley31smiley27
