What to expect: A black-soil pitch, with one of the sides even shorter than the last match. Five of the last six IPL matches here have been won by the chasing side, but no dew is expected on match day.

The scores at this venue have shot up since the square was relaid ahead of the 2023 World Cup, but they are nowhere near what most other IPL venues promise since the Impact Rule rule kicked in. Part of that is to do with the large ground dimensions, which has meant that it's been harder to hit your way out of trouble after an early stutter. Negotiating the powerplay, which LSG didn't do very wellin their last match, will be crucial again.

Head to head: LSG 5 - 1 MI. The last time the teams met in Lucknow, LSG chased MI's 144 for 7 in the last over.

All eyes will be on Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant when the Mumbai Indians face the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday at the Ekana Stadium in a clash between two struggling teams in the Indian Premier League. Both teams have so far managed a solitary win from three games in the season. But while Mumbai head into the clash on the back of a stunning eight-wicket win against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow lost their last game, against Punjab Kings at home.

India captain Rohit's form with the bat has put the MI team management in a tight spot. The same is true for LSG skipper Pant, whose extended dry run is not helping matters for the home side. The 37-year-old scored just 21 runs in 20 balls at an average of just seven, while Pant managed 17 runs in 26 balls at just over six.

LSG hold the edge in the head-to-head stat, winning five of their six IPL games against Mumbai. The last time Mumbai beat Lucknow was in the first half of the 2023 season.

Super Giants will be coming into the game after a loss in their previous clash. The Rishabh Pant-led side suffered a disappointing defeat to Punjab Kings at home, handing them their second win of the season. Taking on the five-time champions, the Mumbai side, LSG will aim to register their second win of the season.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians began the season with back-to-back losses, however, they registered an emphatic win over defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, to get their campaign back on track. The Hardik Pandya-led side currently finds themselves in fifth place in the standings, and will be hoping to carry on their winning momentum forward.

This IPL, home advantage has become a hot topic. The red-soil pitch LSG played on against Punjab Kings did not impress their mentor Zaheer Khan, who went on to say that it looked like the opposition's curator prepared it. Against MI, LSG will switch over to a black-soil surface, which is expected to be more spin-friendly. That could help LSG's spinners, but they will be wary of the move backfiring against MI's own spin contingent.

Temperatures in Lucknow could touch 38 degrees Celsius during the day, but could cool down considerably by the time the game starts at 7.30pm. There's no chance of rain.
