Chapter 96
Ranbir’s Declaration
Ranbir stood at the entrance, his face unreadable, his hands clenched into fists. His words echoed in the silent room.
"I want to marry Rhea."
Instead of joy, Rhea felt a strange jolt of shock. Her heart pounded against her chest, but not out of happiness. This was what she had always wanted, wasn’t it? Then why did it feel… wrong?
Abhi stared at Ranbir, unable to believe what he had just heard.
"Ranbir… do you even understand what you're saying?" Abhi’s voice was heavy with disbelief.
Purab, too, was taken aback. "You love Prachi, don’t you?"
Even Aliyah, who had always pushed Rhea toward Ranbir, found herself momentarily stunned. She had expected resistance from Ranbir, not acceptance.
Pallavi, on the other hand, looked relieved. "This is the right decision, Ranbir. You belong with Rhea, not that Prachi!" she declared.
But Ranbir didn’t look at Pallavi. He didn’t look at anyone except Abhi.
"Yes, I understand exactly what I’m saying," he said, his voice firm. "I want to marry Rhea."
Rhea finally found her voice. "But… why?" she asked, almost in a whisper.
Ranbir turned to her, his expression unreadable. "Because it makes sense."
His words sent a strange shiver down Rhea’s spine. Makes sense? Wasn’t he supposed to say, “Because I want to” or “Because I love you”?
Abhi wasn’t convinced. "You expect me to believe that? One day ago, you were ready to fight the world for Prachi. And today, you suddenly want to marry Rhea?"
Ranbir swallowed hard, his jaw tightening. "People change, Chief. Situations change."
Pallavi placed a hand on Ranbir’s shoulder. "I’m proud of you, Ranbir," she said, smiling. "You finally understand what’s best for you."
Rhea, however, was still in shock. She should have been thrilled, but something didn’t feel right.
She took a step closer, lowering her voice. "Ranbir… look at me and say it again. Do you really want to marry me?"
Ranbir’s gaze flickered for just a moment—so quick that only Rhea caught it. Something was wrong.
But before she could question further, Vikram spoke up. "Then it’s decided," he said. "We’ll start preparing for the wedding."
Abhi clenched his fists. Something about this didn’t feel right. Ranbir wasn’t the type to change his heart overnight.
What was going on in his mind?
Rhea’s Dilemma – What to Do?
Rhea paced back and forth in her room, her mind in complete turmoil. This was everything she had ever wanted—Ranbir finally choosing her. Then why wasn’t she happy?
"This doesn't feel right," she murmured to herself, running a hand through her hair.
Her thoughts were spiraling, and before she could stop herself, she grabbed her phone and dialed Sanju.
Sanju’s Happiness, Sunny’s Worry
At Disha’s house, Sanju was getting ready for college in Sunny’s room, grumbling as he adjusted his shirt.
"As if I need to go to college when my real job was to keep an eye on Aryan. Now that the two brothers have reconciled, why do I even have to go to college?" he muttered to himself.
Just then, his phone rang. Seeing Rhea’s name flash on the screen, his face lit up.
"My dear Lakshmi ji! What a surprise! To what do I owe this pleasure?" he answered with a grin.
"Shut up, Sanju! Something big has happened," Rhea snapped, her voice laced with anxiety.
Sanju frowned. "What happened? Did Prachi fall into a ditch? Did her mom slap her again?"
"Ranbir proposed to me," Rhea blurted out.
There was silence on the other end.
Sanju’s mouth dropped open, and then, he let out an excited whoop. "Whaaaaat?! Lakshmi ji, you’ve finally won! This is amazing! I told you, Ranbir was always meant for you, not that Prachi!"
Sunny, who had just walked in, heard Sanju’s words and froze in place. His expression darkened.
Sanju continued his rant. "Finally, the good times have started! Ranbir and you will get married, and Prachi will be out of his life! This is—"
"Ranbir is acting on his hurt ego," Sunny interrupted, his voice sharp.
Sanju turned to see Sunny watching him intently. "What?"
Sunny snatched the phone from Sanju and put it on speaker. "Rhea, listen to me carefully. This isn’t love. Ranbir is just trying to prove a point, and if you let this happen, things will get even more messed up."
Rhea clenched her phone. "So what should I do, Sunil? Say no to him?"
Sunny exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Say yes to him."
Rhea got the shock of her life. "Why should I say yes when I know Ranbir wants to marry me only to satisfy his ego?"
Sunny continued, "Just do as I said. I’ll let you know later what needs to be done."
At College – Aryan and Ranbir’s Friendship Breaks
At college, Aryan spotted Ranbir walking toward the campus, his face emotionless.
"Aryan, do something," Shahana whispered, standing beside him.
Aryan nodded and rushed toward Ranbir. "Bro, listen to me once! I swear, I didn’t mean for any of this to happen—"
Ranbir halted, turning to Aryan with cold eyes.
"You didn’t mean for this to happen?" Ranbir’s voice was eerily calm. "Then why did you let it happen? Why did you sit at the mandap with Shahana instead of Rishi? Why didn’t you tell me anything before ruining everything?"
Aryan swallowed. "Ranbir, I swear, I—"
"Enough." Ranbir’s voice turned hard. "I don’t need explanations. I just need distance. From you. From your new wife. From everything that has anything to do with you."
Aryan felt like he had been punched in the gut. "Ranbir—"
"You are not my best friend anymore," Ranbir stated, finality in his tone.
And with that, he walked away, leaving Aryan frozen, his heart breaking.
Shahana placed a comforting hand on Aryan’s arm, but Aryan just shook his head, devastated.
Prachi and Shahana’s Conversation
Meanwhile, in another corner of the college, Prachi sat alone on the steps, lost in her thoughts.
Shahana approached her hesitantly. "Prachi…"
Prachi didn’t respond.
Shahana sat down beside her. "I know you’re mad at me, but I want to say I’m sorry. I never wanted things to turn out like this."
Prachi let out a bitter laugh. "It doesn’t matter, Shahana. Your sorry won’t change the fact that my relationship with Ranbir is now in ruins because of you and Aryan."
Shahana stiffened. "Prachi… what do you mean?"
Prachi turned to her, eyes filled with pain. "Ranbir broke up with me."
Shahana’s heart stopped. "What?!"
Prachi nodded, a tear slipping down her cheek. "It’s over."
Sunny’s Revelation – The Truth Unfolds
Rishi was pacing inside his room when his phone rang. Seeing Sunil’s name on the screen, he frowned.
“Now what?” he muttered before answering. “Hello?”
“Meet me outside. Right now.” Sunny’s voice was sharp, urgent.
Rishi sighed, rubbing his forehead. “Sunil, I really don’t—”
“It’s about Shahana.”
That got his attention. Without another word, Rishi hurried outside, where he found Sunny leaning casually against his bike, arms crossed.
“Alright, spill,” Rishi said, crossing his own arms.
Sunny exhaled and looked at him seriously. “You need to know everything. The truth about Priyanka. About Aryan and Shahana’s wedding. About me.”
Rishi frowned. “Priyanka?”
Sunny nodded. “She wanted Shahana dead.”
Rishi’s blood ran cold. “What?”
Sunny continued, his voice low but firm. “Priyanka planned to kill Shahana during the wedding. That wasn’t some accident. If things had gone as she wanted, you would’ve been a widower before you even got married.”
Rishi felt like the ground had been pulled from under his feet. He had always known Priyanka was unhinged, but this?
His hands clenched into fists. “Why didn’t anyone tell me? Why are you telling me now?”
Sunny hesitated for a second before dropping the next bombshell. “Because this wedding… Aryan and Shahana’s wedding… it was all my manipulation.”
Rishi’s head snapped up. “What?”
“It was me. I set everything up,” Sunny admitted. “I used you. I used Aryan. I used everyone. All to get revenge.”
For a moment, Rishi just stared at him, processing his words. Then, in a flash, he grabbed Sunny by the collar and pushed him against the wall.
"You dragged me into your revenge plan?! Do you have any idea what you did?!"
Sunny didn’t fight back. He just stared at Rishi, guilt written all over his face. “I know. And I’m sorry.”
Rishi gritted his teeth. “Sorry? That’s it? You played with all our lives, Sunil! You ruined my wedding! You destroyed me! And now you’re just saying sorry?!”
Sunny sighed. “I didn’t expect you to forgive me. But I need your help.”
Rishi scoffed. “You have some nerve, man.”
Sunny stepped closer. “This isn’t about me anymore. It’s about Prachi and Ranbir.”
Rishi frowned. “What about them?”
Sunny’s eyes darkened. “Ranbir is going to ruin his life. He’s marrying Rhea out of anger, out of spite. And I need to stop him.”
Rishi’s annoyance didn’t fade. “And what does that have to do with me?”
Sunny smirked slightly. “You’re going to send a marriage proposal for Prachi.”
Rishi’s jaw dropped. “What?!”
