Lol you have Trans Europe Express aka Shonali on your team. Don't think you have anything to worry about smiley17

I realize we'll end up reading a few duds, and it may not all be something we like, but it will encourage us to expand our reading habits and the discussion is always fun! I'm part of a read-along Book club on FB and it's been fun so far. I have read books that I would otherwise never pick up on my own, and surprisingly it's been good fun!

In my opinion the first option is better. It'll give us the allowance to read the book at our own pace. It wouldn't really matter if we're skipping the reading session on days when we've got a hectic schedule, cause' at the end of the day we just need to finish reading it before the last week of the month.

I would also suggest that we can do something like a voting session for the genre first — if it sets well for everyone we can continue with the book, if not the member who is uninterested can back out for that month. In that case we can accommodate people like @Shirsha who are selective about the genres (even I am! Ask me to read a non fiction and I might just sleepsmiley37)

For the record, I've tried it both ways and in the Read-along option, we do have people who fall back OR move ahead, but the discussions still happen on that chapter for that day. And tbh it's fun theorizing and speculating about what will happen next only to have it all be blown apart smiley17

But yeah Read and discuss afterwards works too!

And for sure we will have a genre/ sub-genre voting! (I would hate to read non-fiction too! smiley36)

We don't have a spoiler opt which can hide the posts well warna we could've done the daily discussions among those who are reading a chapter everyday smiley13

Yeah they'd need to stay away from the thread. Or we can use the Mature post option to hide spoilery stuff.

But I want more people to get on board before I even think about launching this..

Any suggestions/ ideas, people? How many of you would be interested in something like this?

I've an idea. You can do one thing. You can pick a topic for a month and tell members of the book club to select books of their own choices for the month based on that particular topic. For example- New beginning can be selected as a topic for a month. And members of the book club can select books based on the topic of new beginning. Or the topic of library can be chosen for a month and members can select books written about library. But the members are allowed to select books of their own choices. If a member reads The Midnight Library, another member can read What You are Looking for is in the Library (Japanese book). It will make your book club interesting. Most of the book clubs follow the same pattern of voting books.

Yeah we can have themes (my Book club has these too) but having people pick a book of their own choice kinda defeats the purpose - we want people to chat' discuss the book.

We can still have this idea for just casual reading: Like Theme of the Month and then you pick a book, read it and talk about it/ review it. But it won't be an actual Book club if we aren't all talking about the same book.

Oh okay

You want all the members to read the same book.
