RK was something new that time because then every male lead used to be mostly a good guy so no one was expecting an antihero. Plus Vivian suits those kind of characters. But now every male lead is a bland copy of RK and not everyone can pull off that aura like Vivian did.

Mujhe personally seedhe saade, aise hi shy, socially awkward male leads pasand hain especially the trope when FL teases and ML gets flustered. But unfortunately aise male leads wale shows close within 4-5 months.

Rk was iconic for a reason. He was promoted as anti hero not as green flag. . The best part about his character was how he put his ungrateful family and obsessive ex in their place. There was proper explanation on why he hates fl, why he insults her, why he wants revenge. He was obsessive, entertaining, toxic, smart, had strong individual personally. As u said vivian mannerisms made the character iconic. Present actors could never pull it off.

My favourite Vivian character was Abhay Raichand in Pyaar Ki Ye Ek Kahaani. Guy chose to be frozen in ice for three years to save his lady love. Both male and female leads were ultimate lovers who repeatedly chose each other over everything against every disaster.

I didn't like Madhubala as a show that much. But Vivian acted brilliantly there despite his character being a narcissist.

That beautiful wife sent him to jail and slapped him publicly for rightful reasons

He was iconic for many other reasons. Mainly he was shown as anti hero. Not get whitewashed unlike today's mls.

I completely disagree with the notion that only toxic mls are loved, soft mls are not. That's not true.

Itv made toxic characters ASR, asad, rk, raman iconic.

It also made characters like neil (naamkaran), suraj (diya aur bati hum) most loved.

In today's itv too we have many toxic mls. But they are not iconic or loved characters like previous toxic mls. It's because the current toxic mls lack personality. They either do two timing or support their toxic family over fl.

One can make soft ml without making him look bored and gullible. Like neil from naamkaran was one of my fav mls.

I can begin writing from today. It'd be a cringe old school FF (like radio dramas and early 2000s ITV) but I will try to keep the essence of characters intact.
