Familiar faces like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Kuldeep Yadav will take their places in the side, joined by Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant, who will have to fend off some competition for spots. Varun Chakaravarthy has been added to the ODI squad but he's unlikely to get a game right away unless there's an injury, much like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is likely to be the back-up opener.
Mohammed Shami, who made his international comeback in the T20I series, is expected to don the ODI colours for the first time since the World Cup. There's no Jasprit Bumrah (available only for the third ODI) or Mohammed Siraj (dropped), so it will be interesting to see how Arshdeep Singh, who had a big series in South Africa, steps up. Keep an eye on Hardik Pandya, who returns to the ODI fold after the World Cup.
India will have a choice between Ravindra Jadeja, who has a good ODI record against the England batters, and Axar Patel, who is being looked at as a key figure during India's transition, as evidenced by his elevation to T20I vice-captaincy. Also, which batter breaks the stream of right-handers at the top: Washington Sundar, who comes with handy offspin, or Rishabh Pant, which would mean only one of KL Rahul or Shreyas Iyer can play.
Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel / Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav
