People still connect with and appreciate Generation 1 characters because they were well-defined and true to their traits. DKP isn’t achieving the same connection now with any generation, largely due to poor writing.

The majority of characters lack consistency after generation 1 and after naira's death in generation 2. You can’t root for or relate to them because they often act out of character, including the leads, who suddenly behave in ways that contradict their established traits.

If the writers themselves aren’t clear about the purpose and direction of their characters, why should the audience invest their time and emotions in them? If you can’t stay true to your characters, why would anyone else?
