PART - 9

Ruhi's heart raced as she tried to process Abhir's words. "What are you saying, Abhir? What do you mean? What does my stubbornness have to do with your family?" She took a deep breath, struggling to keep her emotions in check. "You had Massi and Poppy. I remember Massi was pregnant—now you have a sibling too?"

Her voice trembled as she continued, "I never knew Massi saved me, but trust me, not a single day went by when I haven't missed her. Please, Abhir, please let me see her. I will do everything right. I’ll apologize to her, to Poppy. I’ve already lived a life without them. I can’t stay away any longer."

Rohit stepped forward, his voice calm yet firm. "Abhir, I understand that the past was difficult, but Ruhi was just a child. Your mum had such a big heart to give her a guilt-free childhood. I’ve seen Ruhi in pain, and she’s suffering just as much. It would be best to let the families unite."

Dadisa, her wise eyes softened with compassion, added, "Abhir, let Ruhi meet her Massi and Poppy. Think of it as a reunion. Ruhi was a kid, unaware of the truth. Your mother hid it for her own good, but how is Ruhi at fault now? What has she done?"

Abhir, with a sarcastic smile, echoed Dadisa’s words, “What has she done? What has she done?” His voice rose in anger. “What has she done? She took away my childhood! She took away my family! I had so many dreams of a perfect family, and everything was shattered because of her.” Confusion crossed everyone’s faces.

He stepped closer to Ruhi, his expression shifting. “You remember when we all left—me, Mumma, Dadda? We left Udaipur and started a new life in Kasol.” His voice grew heavy with nostalgia. “We made a small family there, waiting for my sibling. Dadda and I used to fight over who would get to name the baby first—mine, Dadda’s, or Mumma’s.”

His gaze drifted, lost in the past. “Then the day finally came. Mumma and Dadda decided to get married, and Dadda took me to the market. We were so excited.” His voice cracked as he continued, “But fate had other plans. On our way back, we got trapped in a landslide. I lost my Dadda that day, and you know what? My Mumma lost both of us.”

Abhir’s voice trembled as he continued, “You know, the authorities informed Mumma that Dadda and I were no more. She left Kasol, pregnant and all alone, with no family and no help.” His eyes glistened with unshed tears. “I was in the hospital for months. When I finally regained consciousness, I saw Dida, Mamu, and Baumi by my side. I asked for Dadda and Mumma, but I didn’t get any answers.”

He paused, the weight of the memory pressing down on him. “It was only when I was fully recovered that they told me the truth. Dadda was gone, and they couldn’t locate Mumma. She had left Kasol, and no one knew where she was.” His voice cracked. “Whether she was alive or dead, no one knew. But I believed she was out there, alive. To this day, I’m searching for her.”

Abhir's gaze intensified as he continued, “You were asking what she has done. Your stubbornness took away the life of my mother, my Dadda, my childhood, and my sister’s childhood. I didn’t even know if I had a brother or sister. When will I get to meet them? Hug them? See them?” He took a deep breath, his voice shaking. “Until a few days ago, when Badi Mumma accidentally told me that Mumma called Bade Nanu two years ago and wanted to talk about my sibling. That’s when I found out I have a baby sister—the sister I always wanted.”

He stepped closer to Abhira, taking her hand and bringing her near Ruhi. “You know, whenever I look at Abhira, I wish, please, God, let my sister be just like her. Full of life, so naughty yet wise, intelligent, and compassionate. Have you ever thought why I call her Piddi? It’s because Abhira is the name I wanted to give to my baby sister.”

Abhir’s voice trembled with raw emotion as he continued, “You took away everything from me—my childhood, my Mumma, her affection. Can you see her anywhere near me? It’s been so many years since I’ve yearned to sleep in her lap, to ask her to sing me lullabies, to caress my hair with love and tenderness. I wanted to grow up with my Dad after Papa, wanted to play football with him just like I used to with Papa. But what did I get? Nothing but emptiness.”

His eyes glistened with unshed tears. “I had so many dreams for my baby sister. I wanted to play with her, teach her to walk, hear her say her first word, protect her from the world. But now... now I feel like I’ve lost all of that, too.”

Abhir shouted at Ruhi, his pain spilling over. “Now you know what you’ve done! Your one stubbornness changed my entire life. Have you ever thought about how my Mumma must have survived the news of my death when I was alive? How much she must have missed me? How difficult it must be for her to raise my sister alone? The challenges she must have faced, the life she must be living—you can’t even imagine.”

He took a step closer, his voice filled with raw intensity. “Because you’ve been living a life full of luxury here in Udaipur! Ruhi, you’ve conveniently accepted everything and never had to think about the lives we led. It’s easy for you to talk about family and forgiveness when you’ve never felt that kind of loss.”

Ruhi felt the weight of his words like a heavy stone in her chest. “Abhir, I—”

But he cut her off. “No! You have no idea what it’s like to be torn from everything you love. I’ve spent years wondering if my Mumma was okay, if she even knew I was still alive. And you… you’ve had everything handed to you without a second thought.”

Tears streamed down Ruhi's face as she absorbed his anger, the truth behind it cutting deep. “I’m so sorry, Abhir. I never wanted any of this. I can’t change the past, but I want to understand, to help you. Please let me.”

He looked at her, the anger still simmering but mixed with a flicker of uncertainty. “Help? How can you help me when you don’t even know the pain we’ve endured?”

The room fell silent, the weight of Abhir’s words hanging heavy in the air. Ruhi’s heart ached, the pieces of their tragic history falling into place. “I’m so sorry, Abhir,” she whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I never wanted this.”

Suddenly, Abhir’s phone started ringing, and at first, he ignored the call, lost in his emotions. Abhira, standing nearby, could see how helpless he felt. She reached over, disconnecting the call initially, but it rang again and again. This time, Abhira pressed the speaker button.

“Sir, why are you disconnecting my call again and again?” came the voice on the other line. “I have something important to share. I’ve located your mother and sister.”

Abhir’s heart raced as he snatched the phone from Abhira, and Ruhi leaned in, listening intently, hope igniting in her chest.

“Where is my Mumma? Where’s my sister?” Abhir demanded, his voice trembling with urgency.

The man on the other end hesitated before responding, his tone somber. “I’m sorry to inform you, but two years ago, your mother passed away. We are still trying to locate your sister, who left after her death.”

The weight of those words hit Abhir like a physical blow. He felt as if the ground had been pulled from beneath him. “No…” he whispered, his heart shattering. “No, that can’t be true.”

Ruhi’s eyes widened in shock, tears pooling as she reached out, wanting to comfort him. “Abhir…”

Abhir’s voice cracked, a mix of disbelief and anguish. “What do you mean she’s gone? You have to find my sister! Please! You can’t just leave me with this!”

The man’s voice softened. “We’re doing everything we can to locate her. But your mother’s passing complicates things. I promise we will keep searching for your sister.”

Abhir’s world felt like it was collapsing. The dreams he had clung to were slipping away, and the anger that had fueled him was replaced by a profound sense of loss. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. “Please, just find her.”

As the call ended, silence enveloped them, filled with the weight of grief and unresolved pain. Ruhi stepped closer, her heart aching for him. “I’m so sorry, Abhir. I wish there was something more I could do.”

He looked at her, the anger still lingering but now mixed with despair. “I don’t know how to do this anymore,” he admitted, his voice barely a whisper. “I’ve lost so much.” he got up and went away from PH.
