I know they would never do this as this goes against parmatma prem image but how about Bhoomi and Shalini as Besties and Prem was going to marry Shalini, sees Bhoomi and falls for her?

Endless possibilities and theories.

Or it could be that it was always Prem and Bhoomi and Shalini was Shobhana's Pick for Prem. And Prem ran away just before marriage. No one wo do suicide just for rejection at the seeing phase.
