Thanks for sharing your perspectives Gags, Ren and others!!! Unfortunately, very busy day today so I won't have time to address each and every post..I'll say this in a nutshell though-
I am not saying ki second chance love stories ho nahi sakti, ya matt banao ya aisa kuch...but I think the biggest issue with Imlie for me post Agastya's death was that "This was not the story they set out to tell"...Conviction is everything...being honest is everything...Hum Dil de chuke sanam, kal ho na ho and other movies were never set out to be "the one and only" love stories and then changed course midways...I think the biggest reason why I didn't give SurLie story a chance was that the way it was brought about was soo forced and unnecessary...the way Sunaina said..you give all those references and hints to audiences that Agastya Imlie are the end game and then soo harshly cheat them out of it...I can't let someone take me for granted that much..aise ego wali bhi thodi baat ho gayee thi mere liye
From the story or ITV audience perspective, I think this could have worked if they had really showed happily ever after for Agastya Imlie at least for some time before showing the death track..like the audience would have been convinced with the change if all the potential of AgasLie was already explored and it had started to get boring...and of course, I wouldn't have watched it like many of you, but I think there was a chance this could have worked for ITV audiences, had the same actor not played both the roles...I mean yaar...Sai ke acting kitni bhi achchi ho..Agastya ko kaise koi yaad nahi karega jab wohi chehra TV pe har roz dikh raha hai...
I am not saying Imlie shouldn't find happiness in her life...jab they decided k august ko marna hi hai tab I totally agree k this is better than wo zindagi bhar agastya k ghum me jeeti rahe...my point is,,why did Agastya even need to die?
Anyway...yaar jo bhi ho..mai khud tum logo k roj ke DDP discussions and updates itna miss kar rahi hoon..jabki mai to show dekhti bhi nahi thi...tum log to kitna miss karte honge yaar...how are you gals doing? Hope Sai comes back soon with some other better-written show and we all have something to watch again!!
I totally agree with you. Gul and the creative team just took audience love and affection and cheated them of a love story they promised by all the tracks earlier. Seriously if Surya was not played by Sai I would have said tata bye bye and would have cut my losses and moved on. It was only because Sai was playing the character I watched the show. Not going to lie - I was also wishing for major part of the first 2 weeks for Surya to be Agastya with memory loss.
The thing is Agastya and Imlie had lot more potential and killing off Agastya was a stupid move. They could have shown Agastya walking off with Imlie and they both starting their life together and then slowly Dadi and others understanding Imlie's point of view and the reconciliation would have been good.
It was stupidity to kill the male lead who was the heart of the show and then not course correct even when the trps started to drop drastically. If Gul and co are arrogant and want to stick to their narrative then audience are also not stupid to allow them another chance and that is what happened.
And now there is no show at 8:30PM and hopefully the channel will contemplate on why they closed off the show and who in the world approved of this stupid twist. I really am waiting for the trps to drop down a lot for the 8 - 9:30PM time slot for SP and then let's see how the new show is going to wean the audience from other shows and get them back to SP.
In short SP is screwed and I am really going to enjoy their downfall.
Another bts from the dance sequence.

Dekhiye kata sabka hai.. Agastya-Imlie fans ka bhi.. Aur Surya-Imlie fans ka bhi..
Woh na mile re.. Hume toh ADHURI kahaani mili...
@Red. That was the original plan. I cannot be convinced otherwise. They actually wanted to show Surya is indeed Agastya with ML. But they did not plan the track properly.Originally posted by: PSharada

@Blue. Unfortunately such things don't work on ITV. ITV mein ek family rahenge aur drama bhi honge lol. Aur iske saath toxicity bhi dikhayenge bhar bhar ke. The only thing they could have done was show the audience that Surya is Agastya with ML. It would have worked that way.
Rest, agree about everything.
Nice post and agree with almost things.. For me i never understood why they killed August at first place they could have fetch more ratings with August being there in picture.. And after his death writers completely lost the plot they intro of surya was good but they could not write interesting stuff and revelations of each and everything in this show always have been feeka.. Expect when August death truth revealed Surya and imlie portrayed emotions well especially adrija did great there. But other things the reddy family drama was flop.Originally posted by: joliefemme
Ok... so I think this post is going to be long... Brace yourselves.... My thoughts are all over the place so please bear with me!!
My first preference
Firstly, if given a choice, I would never want Agastya to die or hoped he was in disguise as Surya. There is no way that Surya-Imlie beats the love story Agastya-Imlie had. This was a huge blunder by the writers which brought the whole downfall of the show.
Second chance at love in Imlie
I remember being one of the first people to welcome the potential of a love story between Imlie and Surya. This was based on my past experiences (depends on how well the writers are able to convince the audience) - after an elaborate love story for the first couple to sell a new love story to the audience. Ofc, it is easier when the new ML looks different and the writers have enough time on hand to convince the audience why the female lead fell in love with the new male lead.
I believe the issue with our show was the fact that Surya looked exactly like Agastya, being indirectly responsible for Agastya's death and the fact that the writers did not have enough time to show a gradual falling in love phase. Plus the reference of Agastya Imlie being the end game previously did not help. This story had more potential had the writers been more convincing.
Other examples
We have seen movies like Kal Ho Na Ho where Naina moves on with Rohit after Aman's death. Did that lessen her love for Aman? No. Did she love Rohit any less? No. She was happy with Rohit her entire life. He was a good life partner to her. You cannot live a whole life based on a few memories. Similarly there was Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam where Nandini chose to live with life with her husband and move on from Sameer. There may be many other examples but you can get the gist.
Coming to Imlie
No one can deny the fact that Imlie hardly ever got time with Agastya. From the start they were previously having multiple MUs and then later fell in love. He literally died the day they married. Pura life spending with his memories would have been so unfair to her. She is 25 assuming and lives till 70. It is not a joke to live 45 years alone. I am not saying she cannot, but if she has a supportive partner like Surya, why not!!
My opinion on second chances
I am a big advocate of second chances at love. Imlie lost her love because fate but the same fate gave her Surya who is an equally good life partner. Someone who was always by her side unconditionally. When I see these qualities, I know I want to root for Imlie with Surya. She deserves happiness too.
While my heart bleeds for Agastya and all the unfairness that happened with him, atleast there is a chance 2 out of 3 people lived happily together.
I feel the love Imlie has for Surya is different compared to the love she had for Agastya. With Agastya she would have a very passionate carefree wala life but with Surya there is a lot of sukoon. The last scene was a proof of their equation. That isn't so bad now, isn't it.
I understand and appreciate the doll analogy, the truth is that the doll is gone and never coming back. So it is either feeling sad and living with old memories or moving on and create better memories.
Sai as Surya
Also, I would not have watched the show to the end had Surya not being played by Sai. The truth is the reason I watched the show is SAI and SAI alone. But despite this, my opinion on second chances remain the same. I would chose Surya-Imlie happy together over Imlie living alone with Agastya ke memories. I wish we had more scenes with Surya Imlie but still there is sukoon and contentment that they did get their happily ever after.
I do totally believe In second chances but it should be portrayed well.. Kuch bhi kahin bhi daal do not that type.. Second chance story should touch your heart..surya imlie had potential but Writers wasted too much time.. It was only after banaras trip they gave good stuff..
only after bananas trip they gave good stuff..
Sahi baat hai Kavya.. They actually went Bananas
On a serious note.. Saare episodes khatam kar liye aapne?
