I don't think they would have even thought of torturing Savi had Virat been alive. They're taking advantage of his and his family's absence because they know she's alone. Had Virat been alive they wouldn't have been able to even touch her since he wasn't someone who would take nonsense and they couldn't even have tried to give him compensation and got themselves free from going to jail. Some in laws take advantage when they know that the daughter in law is alone or if her family will never help her out. This is the bitter truth and is sad.
