Even I understand he is avoiding the marriage part. He is not realizing just because he avoids it, that does not mean it does not exist. But in the case of hearing the word hate from Janak, he is getting angry not because of his ego but because of his helplessness I believe. He is getting bothered by the word, but he does not know why?

I don't think it's his ego he was just really hurt. It was very natural for him to feel bad, when all he wanted was Jhanak to be safe and she ended up using such strong words for him.

Another good thing about Ani is he never expected Jhanak to be grateful. She never appreciated him and he was fine with it, but using such harsh words would shatter anyone!
