Wow, your historic knowledge of the Oscars is really deep and I don't have any knowledge to even speak about your point. I'll just move it to this year. Film and Director is not even a question as I think Oppenheimer is going to sweep those awards. What an insane movie. A classic after a really long time.

But between Cilian Murphy and DeCaprio, who will win BA? I think it will be Murphy (Basing it on Golden Globes) because I think on performance I cannot choose between the 2.

I've never seen the original Parineeta so I don't know how it compares to the new one. As for compared to Black, it would be hard to find a movie that would compare to it.

I haven't seen Oppenheimer so I can't speak much about it but I'm assuming Cillian Murphy will win the Oscar. We'll know more certainly depending on who wins the BAFTA and SAG Award. Those are more accurate to the final Oscar winner compared to the Golden Globe which frankly has little merit. I don't see Leo winning. They made a big deal out of letting him win for The Revenant because he was considered overdue because of his starpower. There's no rush or hurry for him to win again (if ever) and while I didn't watch his movie either, I've heard there were lots of people who weren't impressed with his role in the narrative and felt it was the classic case of a white protagonist's role being centered over the indigenous/minority perspective.

Great list. I haven't watched many of those but have heard a lot. Was Manoj Bajpai the lead actor/character in Satya? I loved his performance and so many more of his are amazing too. If we speak of supporting and villan roles then this list will go into pages.

No, Manoj Bajpayee is not the lead. He's a supporting actor but he has a pretty big role and I'm pretty sure he has more screentime than Urmila who is the female lead and was nominated for Best Actress. It's one of those supporting roles that pretty much dominates the entire movie, which is why at Filmfare, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor but also Best Actor (Critics) which he did win.

Right very difficult to find a movie like that. Ah, I didn't know Golden Globes had lost merit with regards to pointing to the eventual Oscar winner. Yes, the last 2 lines is the best 2 line synopsis for that role. However, I actually think he was better than he was in Revenant. However, he didn't have a Murphy competing with him in 2016. More so, on having stars win Oscars, it's high time Nolan gets his recognition. The kind of movies he's made especially for my generation onwards, out of the box innovative movies, which the Academy hasn't been able to digest I guess. I think this time it will happen.

Yes, his role was probably the most potent male role in the film considering the subdued character the titular role was (compared to Mhatre). Also, the strength of the actor's talent comes through with actors like Manoj Bajpai and Shefali Shah in the movie that they stand out no matter the size of the role and more than an actor of lesser ability might. So he won both BSA and BA Critics? That is some achievement if so. Bhikku Mhatre will always be unforgettable just like Sapne Mein Milti Hai. That world was great when RGV also made great movies.

I could easily go beyond 5-6 though if I include Sridevi in English Vinglish, Madhuri Dixit in Lajja, and Madhubala in Mughal-E-Azam

Watched Heaven On earth. Superb movie and mind blowing performance by PZ. Thanks for the great suggestion!

The Golden Globes haven't been relevant for a while. They're known as being the awards ceremony where people come just to get drunk and have a good time with little pressure. There have been times where the winners of the Golden Globes (both for musical/comedy and for drama categories) don't match up to the actual Oscar winner at all. I think most of Nolan's popular films like the Batman series or Inception were never going to be the type to win awards anyway, with Heath Ledger's win being an exception. Oppenheimer is probably the closest he'll get to Oscar bait.

It's interesting that the main lead himself didn't get any nominations for Satya. Everyone else in the cast did though. Shefali Shah had the same situation as Manoj Bajpayee where she won both BSA and BA Critics. Whereas someone could still argue that Manoj's role was a lead role, since he has lots of screentime, Shefali's screentime is quite short so she's definitely a supporting role but the critics awarded her Best Actress. That was a tough year for Supporting Actresses. Rani won for KKHH and Preity was nominated for Dil Se and won Best Female Debut instead. Wasn't there some sort of scandal that caused RGV's fall from grace? I remember people said that Urmila's career basically ended when RGV's did.

You're welcome. Like I said, it's a very little known film partially because it's not a Bollywood movie at all. Too bad her comeback films were entirely the opposite of Heaven on Earth.
