Watched it finally. One of the best movies of the year: 4/5

I mean, I cant say much more about RK than has already been said in all the Animal threads. Dude is a powerhouse performer. The range he has exhibited in this movie is just insane and it all looked so effortless. I don't think any actor in this generation or previous generation could have done this role with so much conviction.

Regarding the movie itself, its 3hrs 20 mins, and it did not feel that long. It was engaging throughout despite having a fairly basic storyline. The script was tight and thats what did it. The only time it dragged was post interval - the Tripti subplot could have been edited out for a 3 hour movie. But then it picks up big time post that.

There were no bad performances either. Rashmika was a bit bland initially but really scores big points in the second half.

The supporting cast of RK's family was absolutely perfect with their performances. Bobby was scary good - I did not mind the length of his role. A longer role would have diluted the impact (esp with the translator)

My only gripe with the movie is the same I had with Kabir Singh. The ending was very thanda - it needed a Vaastav-esque ending to leave a bigger impact and earn that extra star for 5/5. It just ended poorly I feel - just the last bit. The climax in itself was TOP

Will add my points on sex/violence/misogyny in a bit :D

Coming to the juicy bits about violence, sex and misogyny which have grabbed headlines and led to polarised viewpoints.

Violence: I really do not see whats the big deal. Barring that 1 scene with Bobby and then the end credits, I did not see anything tooooo shocking which we haven't already scene in all the Hollywood action movies. The action was actually very well stylised and choreographed and that is what works

Sex/Nudity: Are you kidding me? Woh 15 seconds ke 2 scenes ka itna hype hua as if this movie was going to show God knows what. There is 10000 times worse content in mainstream western shows and OTT content and its open for all. Heck those Bhatt banner movies steamy scenes are so much worse.

Misogyny: There were 4-5 problematic scenes in this regard. But at no point are you expected to root for the character during these scenes. Its established in the very first few minutes that he is messed up and on the wrong track. And by the interval its fully established that he is completely deranged. His parents call it out, his sister calls it out, his wife almost emasculates him a couple of times when he tries to make tall claims about his masculinity. What else does the viewer need to know that he is not a character to be "liked"

PS: There were plenty of women in the theater - mostly couples for the morning show. A couple of ladies discussing behind us when the movie ended said this was way better than KS because it made sense why he was doing all this mad shit, while Kabir's actions seemed a lot more unexplainable
