I nowhere said that the characters should not be critiqued. I myself wrote how problematic his character was in AR. And it was satisfying to see him losing medical license in the movie for 5 years, I wrote that each and every scene was eyerollworthy and scandalous but I give credit where it is due. I never thought I would watch Arjun reddy after watching the trailers. I ended up watching it randomly on TV when some channel was playing it to know why this movie was called controversial by half of the people or why it became hit. All I said was why AR was worth watching for me.

And people watch movies for various reasons. I personally don't get impacted by any movies. And I'm not justifying anything in the movie or anything in the Animal trailer.

I made that post as I thought few people may not be aware about the info that he is psychopathic in the movie, so wanted to share that info, it's like prior warning to the people too that what to expect in this movie and for the matter of fact i was just saying it's not for the people who want to watch sane, normal characters and it's definitely not for the people who get influenced by them.

My post was in general. It was not directed at you. It just happened to be right after your post. I saw Arjun Reddy and actually thought it was technically very well made movie, but as you said there was literally no story. Vijay was ace in that and that saved the film. I'm pretty desensitised to violent movies, I think a lot of us are compared to the previous generations. Directors or whoever making movies are free to show whatever violence or toxicity they want lol, I just don't believe Vanga does it for the story telling. He just wants to shock the audience and get people talking about it. That's my only point.

Have a good night!!

I myself posted in other threads few days back about how I hate watching physical fight/violence.i would never justify a husband choking his wife's neck for that matter I would never justify any human choking any other human's neck or causing any other physical injury like physical fights they show between hero and villians too.

If the point is about bad should be shown as bad and good should be shown as good- then I say that As long as they don't justify that Ranbir(his character ) choking his wife is a good thing(or not a bad thing) I personally don't mind especially if the person is called as criminal or psychopathic in the movie, I personally don't watch such scenes at all, that's why I said it's not my genre.

As a social responsibility yes it's better if the directors avoid showing such violence between any people in the movie not just violence between husband and wife, Along with that it's parents responsibility too to avoid playing such movies around children and it's the channels/broadcast responsibility too to edit such scenes. Thankully TV channel/broadcast edited Arjun reddy movie while playing on TV, they didn't show vulgar or violent scenes in edited version I watched on TV, they edited that scene where AR put a knife on a woman's neck to do sex with him, if i watched that scene, it would have boiled my blood more, I ended up coming across that scene randomly on YouTube somewhere and felt more disgusted at AR's character.

And I red 2 years back in ishqbaaz forum about how UK edited or censored the scenes from that TV show whenever there was blood/gun/physical violence scenes were there in the TV show, I genuinely would encourage Indian authority doing that too when they are playing such scenes on TV /any other social media platform/ YouTube or give "prior warning" when people try to open such content as not everyone is comfortable or tolerant enough to see blood/violence/weapons , I was scared looking at blood drowned face/clothes of hero in Animal posters, That's why I was scared to watch the trailer too but thankully it has not much gore as I expected otherwise such blood shed murdering scenes give me anxiety.

For this same reason I would not encourage parents allowing children to use certain social media too where they are exposed to such stuff, world is cruel and unsafe outside and children should not be allowed to watch violence, Vulgar scenes until they attain some mental maturity age wise to differentiate between what is good and what is bad.

Ha! It also had been my first encounter with Vijay Deverakonda.

He then played a similar character (struggling with anger management) in Dear Comrade.

Maybe someone here has a movie to recommend with him in the lead, a more positive one...

Vanga reddy is all about grabbing the eyeballs with controversial stuff, violence, vulgar scenes. In terms of vulgarity Animal is mild infront of AR, in fact Animal doesn't look like it has any vulgar scenes, Animal seems to be the movie with high violence content and atleast shukar hai that they are writing from so long that hero is psychopathic in the movie and Vanga is allowing them to write that.. I'm sure that he will make more controversial statements in interviews after the release of the Animal which will enrage the people and make the movie more popular and people watch it out of curiosity to know what is the controversy and that's what made his Kabirsingh hit snd that's what makes Animal hit too at box-office.

Apart from that i should add that he is good at casting so far for most of the characters in AR and Animal(at least as per trailer), and it seems he has a good editing team (which edited Animal and AR's trailer well) and he is good at showing scenes powerful with powerful back ground music and in an engaging manner may be because of him chosing good actors or directing them well while acting i'm not sure, overall I agree with you about that the fact that technically AR was well made movie, it was not morally right or interesting movie. I call it an "engaging" movie than "interesting" . Just saying.

as far as animal is concerned. lets wait for the movie before making comments.

For now, I'm only curious about the story, about the son's character arc, about what happens in movie's 'reality' and what in the son's imagination only.

For that, I've only to read, not to watch the movie.

It was the same with Arjun Reddy...I had read about the character and the issues when the Hindi version got discussed, but I wanted to watch the original...and indeed got the feeling of the filmmaker's sympathy with the lead character who didn't deserve sympathy (but needed therapy).

In Animal, that seems to be the case again.

There are other movies with psychotic men and violent behaviour which show traumata and the resulting behaviour in a non-misogynistic way (I think of Darr, e.g.).

Fine! I already had been tempted to watch exactly this movie, especially because Vijay also sings in the movie...and it is a romantic comedy, so a light movie.

It's also directed by Parasuram who made a good directorial debut film with Nikhil.

It's also with Rashmika (who now is paired with Ranbir) who I already know from Sid's Mission Manju (also a movie I liked...ha! and again a directorial debut as a feature film)

I'll try to find Geetha Govindam.

Thanx smiley27
