I think the only reason they killed Abhir in the show is so that they can give a reason for Akshara to remember Dr. Birla ki death warna... Kis Rishte se unhe yaad karti...

The first person Akshara remembered seeing a wife cry for her husband was Abhinav. It was a really sad scene. Such a beautiful relation that ended so tragically. Abhinav comes first for Akshara even after all these years.
