Nopes Prem janta tha. He clearly told Bhoomi before dying that you won't be able to save me or the kids. Plus Bhoomi has mentioned several times that Prem got to know something that's why left not entirely because of Avni.

But yes this recent Flashback is a result of story change. Here Prem didn't even ask Avni why you are doing this to me, he simply said, you must have some reasons WTF Bhoomi clearly told Yuvika that Prem wanted to fight against Avni's accusations but in that process he got to know something else. In recent flashbacks they didn't show Prem trying to defend himself much or calling out Avni.

I am only saying about the Actual mastermind, I think Prem only knew that the MM is someone among Mahajans but didn't know who actually s/he is as per the original storyline
