Mustafa Moudi: "Hope Head Plays today to get game-time before facing teams like NZ and England !!"
Australia vs Netherlands isn't expected to make a lot of headlines. But neither was England vs Afghanistan was supposed to nor was South Africa vs Netherlands. The Goliaths have fallen enough times to say that Davids have slayed not by serendipity but by calculated assaults. Australia is a side not prone to upsets. And even so at the big stage. The last upset for them on the big stage was by Zimbabwe in the 2007 T20 WC. Can't say they are upset proof but their well balanced side just makes it tougher for lesser known teams to continue relentless assaults and garner favourable results. They know how to wriggle out of a daedalian situation.
Scott Edwards and his troops have already punched above their weights. They slayed South Africa who have been sending teams on a leather hunt but fell like a pack of cards against the Dutch. But Delhi might not allow that to happen. The Arun Jaitley Stadium and the deck has had some renaissance over the years. It isn't exactly slow and low anymore. Runs will come at a good pace and it is where lesser experienced teams do struggle. Australian bowlers with their incisive attack will look to take the wind out of a batting attack which has had to resurrect mostly in this WC. But a country known for windmills will look to generate a good start at the top which might help them navigate forward in a seamless manner.
Aussie pacers looked solid against India with the new ball despite them losing the game. The spin looked a little low on reserves. But Maxi's good form and Zampa's wicket taking spree in the last two games has covered that base. Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins on a given day can present an early finish against a good batting line-up as well. So, Netherlands know where their hard work has to be invested. Not that Aussie batters will be easy to deal with. But the likes of Aryan Dutt and co. have it in them to contain the Aussie batting order in case there is little help from the deck. To add to their woes, Travis Head will return to the team. The tall batting order from the Aussies will only be elongated further.
Scott Edwards has to get more out of his opening pair and both would be looking to set the tone to ensure this isn't a lopsided affair. It has been a WC where we have seen upsets but even those ones haven't been nail biting finishes. It is Australia's reputation vs The Dutch tenacity on the big stage! Let the fun begin...
