Will Young: They managed to take some wickets in the middle but credit to the guys, we finished well. Just the way they soaked up the pressure, they both felt they could go and I think we got 80 runs off the last 6 overs or so, they timed it brilliantly. I would’ve been stoked if I could take it deep but it wasn’t to be today. it doesn’t feel good to be left out but our bench strength is good. You go again and try to win it for your side.

Oh, it has been a remarkable recovery from New Zealand after losing wickets in quick succession following the 10th over. But then they started a major rebuilding effort and got back in the game with some pretty handy partnerships. They navigated their way through choppy waters and then got into a commanding position, some useful cameos in the end have got them a pretty decent total on this pitch. Afghanistan's body language tells you everything. They know they let things slip in the field after getting off to a brilliant start. This is not going to be an easy chase by any stretch of the imagination and Afghanistan will rue the dropped catches. There were at least four of those chances gone begging, and that helped Phillips and Latham forge a crucial partnership in the middle.
