It was not kjos best. Most ppl liked it for Ranveers abs.

Worldwide it’s definitely a blockbuster. It’s still running 3 shows a day where I live. But then Ranveer’s movies have always done well here, on the top of it it’s a K Jo movie. In India it underperformed though the competition is very tight with blockbuster movies releasing every two weeks after its release.

It did well for what it is.

The movie should not have broken records and it has not. It is just not that good.

Without Ranveer's comedy gig, it would have been a bore fest. Then again, some of his gigs, like him wearing a bra, was distatsteful.

He didn’t volunteer to wear it, he was literally forced to wear it that too by a so called human rights champion. It was utterly distasteful as well as disturbing.

It performed in India exactly what it was worth. It was a fcuk all movie. The medleys of the old songs gave me a headache by the end. There were just too many.

Everybody acted like they were on crack.

I honestly did not understand if KJo wanted to show that depression has made or was making Kanwal immobile? Because that did not come across.

Like I said, fcuk all.

I really don't get the NRI audience appeal but it's as loud and in your face like a foghorn whether you care for it or not. NRI audiences in the UK/USA love the nostalgia factor and for them SRK=BW and KJo by extension.

Whereas the audience in India have been exposed to other types of cinema.

I remember watching KKHH as a little pre-teen here in the UK, hated the movie even as a 10 year old but the craze was palpable at 1st watch. Teenage girls dancing in the cinema and couples making out in the back seats was a staple in SRK movies. I remember me and my fellow immature pre-teen cousins would laugh and keep looking back rather than being engaged in Mohabbatein.

Have a distinct memory of aunty jis dissing Munna Bhai which was playing alongside, saying "who'd want to watch this when you have KHNH". So you can imagine the illogical craze of banding SRK-KJo-YRF cinema as all that's great about BW cos they never gave anything else a fair chance.

Anyway coming to the movie, I didn't trust the good reviews from family but gave it a watch on Amazon Prime.

Man, Alia was atrocious, all I could think was:

Ranveer's character is what KJo thinks Ranveer is like IRL and hence why you never get past the surface level and superficiality of his character. He looked awful, bad idea to reprise his Ram Leela look. Alia aping DP's look on the other hand, works for her.

The bra scene was weird, as if Ranveer ne misogyny ka theka likha tha, not sure what the point of making him wear the bra was.

Alia and her family came across as the petty, rigid ones. For Rani to reprimand his mother and sister as if standing up for yourself is easy at 1st attempt. Her raising her hand at his Dad was the final straw for me, glad there was appropriate outrage at that scene.

As for Rocky's family, too unrealistic to critique. There was no flow between the younger characters of Jaya and Dharma to how they aged and reason as to why she kept her son away from her husband was feeble. Could have toned down the caricature evil for more balance.

There definitely was propaganda by BW and for the likes of Anurag K to praise it to the skies...
