Red is the color of Mangal..is used in all Mangal kaarya ..as in auspicious rituals.

Red n green r two colors very often seen on married people.

They have coloured borders, not that white is a bad colour. Issue is with gatekeeping tradition and shaming people for not following them as if tradition is monolithic and not accumulated culture over decades or centuries. I have seen Malayali, Assamese, Bengali 'Hindu' brides wear light colour bridal outfits with or without red and green detailing. Let alone the fact that there are people of other faiths in our country whose traditions also are part of Bharatiya traditions.

What is tradition to someone might not be tradition to someone else. Not that anyone is obliged to follow 'tradition' at all.

Anyhow, Manish Malohtra is quite meh as a designer so anyone is free to like or dislike the lehenga. But discussions on tradition are invariably reductive, at least, I feel that way.

and the outfit is just plain dull, parineeti looks pretty, the aesthetic is pretty but just something is off, there is no wow factor. the jewelry maybe was supposed to be but it's just big stones, not pretty

Most probably because it's a politician's wedding and their sartorial choices in India have leaned towards solid, pale colours going back to Quit India movement and symbolisation of the Charkha. To appear more sober and relatable. Even the reception saree was quite meh. She looked pretty but didn't draw the attention or anything.

I did wonder if the groom’s position and status played a part in how neutral and muted her color scheme is.
